From my understanding regarding writing credits, when someone contributes even just a few words to the song and it has a significant impact on the song then they are considered to be one of the writers. For example, when Beyonce allegedly changed “Smack Into You” to “Smash Into You” by switching the words throughout the whole song, she contributed to the song in such a way that she had to be credited as a writer. If she’s doing changes like that to demo records (which is what I suspect), then technically she IS one of the songwriters. Kandi from Xscape claims that she taught the girls from Destiny’s Child to do this when she worked with them on The Writings On The Wall. It’s legal and I don’t see anything wrong with Beyonce doing this.
HOWEVER, when she said she wrote Irreplaceable when it was really Neyo who wrote it, THAT was wrong.
