It looks like listeners have done everything but sleep on pop queen Janet Jackson‘s comeback single ‘No Sleeep’ as the slow groove has reawakened radio interest in the once ailing diva.
Making its official premiere on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, the Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis-helmed tune comes as the week’s only solo debut and notched the singer her 40th Hot 100 hit!

“[After Selena Gomez ft. A$AP Rocky’s #9 debut with ‘Good For You’], Janet Jackson scores the week’s second-highest debut, as “No Sleeep” enters at No. 67, marking her milestone 40th Hot 100 hit, and her first since 2008.”
Elsewhere on charts, the song is sitting pretty at #15 on the Adult R&B songs chart.
“No Sleeep” grants Jackson her 27th hit on Adult R&B Songs (which originated in 1993), tying her with Faith Evans for third-most visits among women. Mary J. Blige leads with 51, followed by Mariah Carey (33). The debut also earns Jackson her highest entrance ever on the chart.
The new single concurrently bows on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay at No. 27 with 6.7 million in first-week audience, according to Nielsen Music, marking her 36th hit on the chart. It’s her highest debut in more than 20 years: “Scream,” with brother Michael, launched at No. 6 on June 3, 1995.”
The placement only helps secure Jan’s name in R&B history books as fans may know she currently holds a record for “That’s the Way Love Goes” being the only song to debut at #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart back in May 1993.

I don’t care about people liking Jan (I’ve always said this about my favs), I’m just pointing important things out because there’s so much delusion spreading. You strikes me as insecure stan repeating some of the same one-sided arguments, yet you have serious meltdowns when Mariah’s critiqued. You can’t take what you dish out.
If you’re only noticing Janet stans “bringing Mariah down” and don’t see Mimi stans doing the same, then your more unrealistic than I thought. As for the beef between Janet and Madonna stans, everyone knows it’s more personal between them two. You don’t need to group lambs with Madge stans to build alliances, Mariah’s not even in that equation. You claim that you don’t downplay Jan’s eras, but continue to draw foolish comparisons with statements like these: “Mariah or Madonna were more successful than her(Janet) back in the day, and they keep being more successful”. You’ve gone mad, Janet has already out peaked every solo Mariah song this decade. Anyway, I’m not focusing on making one a lessor because I’m well aware of both ladies strengths and weaknesses. I’m simply addressing all the BS.
For this day in age of music it is a start. Remember this is 2015 not 1995 O.K., in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s albums sold by the millions and singles of all ages were played on the radio where there was heavy rotation from Janet, & Whitney to Aretha, Patti, & Tina from Madonna to Cher. To Shania, Mariah, and Celine. Each women was in there own lane when it came to their success you already had Tina,Aretha,Patti, & Cher whom already were Legends in their right then on the other hand you had the future Madonna, Janet, Whitney, Celine, Mariah, and Shania. Madonna ruled the beginning of the 80’s along with Prince and Michael, then the mid 80’s came while those three continued to rule Janet and Whitney came along to held it down with Madonna, Prince, and Michael and so on into the 90’s for Mariah, Celine, and Shania. You can’t say that Mariah/Madonna was bigger
then Janet, because Janet was that b**** in the mid 80’s through the 90’s but you also have to realize Janet had less albums including Remix albums and Greatest hits which only included Design of the Decade at that time but she still ruled the charts and the only competition she had was Madonna not Mariah leave that argument for Mariah vs. Whitney Houston because those to are merely the same not Janet vs Mariah it’s more Madonna vs. Janet that’s more of a correct argument because their each others rivals but you can’t deny Janet’s impact and plus Janet was just as huge as Madonna and Mariah she just didn’t come out with that many albums so basically your argument of who sold more is invalid because Janet didn’t come out with many albums like Madonna and Mariah and today’s music is more about free illegal downloading a song instead of buying your favorite artists music and helping the see top ten or top five on the billboard we should be lucky if are favorite artist are able to see Janet’s chart position now or the top 25-20 on billboard in this day in age because time has definitely changed including with lack of radio airplay from these half assed radio stations so without promotion or a video Janet has done fairly well I just wish Madonna and Mariah go back to what made people love them in the first place. Madonna Vogue,Bedtime stories, Erotica days meets Ray of Light Mariah Vision of Love meets Butterfly days before she did Hip-Hop that’s what people remember them for their classics not there gimmicks.
Whitney has less albums than Janet and still toppled her in record sales so your argument is invalid. The fact is that Janet is overall less successful than her peers. Sure Janet had PERIODS where she did better than all of them, but her AVERAGE is the weakest. When Janet’s PEAK years were done, she never found a level where she was able to comfortably sustain. It just got worse and worse with each new album. And Madonna is not Janet’s competitor. If anything it was MJ and he has WAAAAY less albums than her but sold WAAAAY more.
People forget she is more core R&B then Whitney and Micheal. Hence during the 80’s Whitney got alot of black lash from blacks. When Whitney return to R&B My Love is Your Love she started to decline. So it was easy to sell Whitney and Micheal music to biggest music buyers which was the white population. Just like Mariah and Madonna.
Um, what? MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE is 4x platinum in the US and did over 10 million WW, which was more than THE VELVET ROPE sold and both were from the same period. Now these Legends only do it for there fans because they realize music has changed, the dynamic has changed and it’s a new generation let the new generation have these what we call low sales we have are classics and we can tour off our catalog while the new generation fight to stay relevant by coming out every year and fight for chart positions.

I agree with a lot of what you’ve stated. I keep pointing out that artists from different periods and with different amounts of output can’t be compared without taking a few things into consideration. Whitney’s BG/ Shania’s Come On Over albums sold more than any other diva’s album(s), but both supposedly sold less than Madonna (overall). Madonna has more albums!
Toni Braxton’s albums outsold Mary J’s biggest by more than double (on 2 occasions), but Mary outsold Toni by more than 20 million records. Mary has more albums! It makes a difference. I also don’t understand how people fail to realize that Jan’s been charting inside of 4 decades. It seems a bit ridiculous to dismiss the three she’s earned #1’s in and focus on ONLY the last 5 years or so, like she’s a brand new artist (when her career’s been tarnished after SB) .

That artist only sold a gold record and the exec have a 20 million dollar yacht on hold. That’s why to this Day Sir Richard Branson will always say Janet Jackson was responsible for buying Necar Island cause she sold and promoted the hell out of that Janet Album it outsold Rhythmn Nation 1814 she had so many specials on MTV back in 1993 I thought she was holding them hostage at one point shot she had interviews the dancers had interviews stage people, costume Etc. And the trolls have the nerve to call these Legends flops well to me there not this generation wish they could see the sales that Prince, Janet, Madonna etc did in there day but for now it’s more for fans then chart status or position because these artists already cemented their place in gunnineise records and music records to prove so and also created and broke new ground that this generations faves look up too.

I laugh at Janet stans pretending that this is some kind of slayage or real accomplishment. Y’all sure do like to fabricate and pretend where that woman is concerned. Her song never made it into the iTunes top 10 and is almost out of it completely, after just a week. So methinks that 67 charting is gonna be pretty much it. According to Billboard, a song ain’t a hit unless it reaches the top 40. So this is technically a flop. Enjoy.

It WAS promoted dumbass. News of this songs release was heavily reported everywhere and she was all over social networks for months before teasing her return. Plus that silly ass BET tribute thing, which didn’t even push the song back into the top 20. Promo isn’t limited to music videos and TV performances. What a ‘tard. But enjoy this 67 chart position for this week because I know you see the song already trending downward. Next weeks chart update won’t be pretty.
You’re such an idiot! it was NOT promoted! She just dropped it after a countdown on her website, nor has she performed it, she doesn’t even have a video. She only tweeted it twice one RIGHT AFTER the first! And NO there were NO songs HEAVILY on social media for months!!! And if you have this huge problem with Janet then WHY tf did you even watch the tribute? All we heard was the background music in her video announcement which we later found out was the single. All we knew was that the single would be called No Sl333p and a few only knew that because Jimmy Jam tweeted it. That really isn’t promo considering Jimmy Jam only has 15k followers!
