Just yesterday, Pop queen Janet Jackson promised details about her new album will be divulged from her lips. And today the iconic songbird held true to her word.
Because not only has she confirmed the title of the fiercely anticipated LP, she has teased a snippet of a new song from it.
Taking to Twitter moments ago, the diva shared lyrics from a new song titled ‘The Great Forever.’ Produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the track is billed as being from the album ‘Unbreakable.’

I feel like this album is going to have a lot of hidden tributes to MJ, Jackson fans know that Michael had a song called Unbreakable on his last studio album Invincible and was MJ’s wish to release Unbreakable as a single with Brett rather directing the video which would have starred Mel Gibson but Sony pulled the plug on the album. The Great Forever sounds more like an MJ song than a Janet song it has the same swing groove as Leave Me Alone, The way You Make Me Feel, and A Place Without No Name, I’m very excited about Unbreakable, Janet is just a Fantastic artist!

Honestly, it’s true, I remember reading it at the time, sony chose to release Cry as a single, notice MJ is not in the video, they also would not promote Invincible during MJ’s concert special that he did for HBO featuring, Whitney, Usher, N’Sync etc. This is what caused Michaels big fall out with Sony at the time, i’ll try and see if the story is still on the net somewhere

The filming of the “Unbreakable” video is now expected to start in April.
A previous concept for the video, directed by David Meyers, has been discarded by Michael Jackson.
The new project is to be produced by Michael, directed by Rush Hour’s Brett Ratner and featuring Chris Tucker.

Invincible was a great album! And unbreakable was hot. She wold shut shyt down if she was make a video to that song and sing. It definitely speaks her truth though. Every word to that song.
This does feel like something done in MJ’s honor. They both had many diverse styles, it’s definitely one of the things that kept them interesting. I totally agree with you on the similarities to ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’, it seems like this song might compliment it well.

“Conversations in a Cafe” is a better album title, sounds more mature, “Unbreakable” is so MJ. Can’t say much about this new song, just that it sounds very Pop, anyway “No Sleep” has grown on me, it’s a good R&B song.

Ive been listening over and over but its not doing anything for me. Also, i have no clue what she is saying. Jam and Lewis are better with mid tempo. She needs to seek out Bruno or someone else for an uptempo modern song.
Whatever it’s called doesn’t matter at this point, it isn’t as if this album is going to sell much. Janet’s dwindling fan base is delusional and always has been. She might do decent (for her) tour numbers while the album and all its singles all flop. Then a year from now when everything is over and done, things will be exactly the same as they were a year ago. She’ll be at the bottom rung compared to all her contemporaries, with the least amount of records sold and overall success. While even several acts who emerged well after her (like Britney and Eminem) will sit higher than her in overall sales and rank.

For Janet to be making waves 10 years later after being banned from everything (Radio, the Grammy’s, MTV at the time and just about anything else artists needed to promote their work) says a lot. I love how people like yourself want to use the blacklisting against her, like she was supposed to somehow sell millions of records even though she was despised and unfairly mistreated. I guess some of ya’ll need the odds to be a little uneven for a while to make it look like your fav is superior. First of all, Janet’s ‘Damita Jo’ still went platinum during all this! Discipline in 2008 went gold and her peers outsold it by only a few hundred thousands (and those artists were still on the radio). I’m not interested in doing this today, but we all know that Janet had great consistency from 86′ – 2004. In that time, 5/6 albums went #1, EVERY single Janet dropped from ’86 – 2001 (before SB) went top 10 (24 in total), with the exception of Pleasure Principle (#14),she had record breaking tours, held the record for the most Billboard wins(33), was the #2 artists of the 90’s and was given huge recording contracts. Don’t discredit her! Say you simply don’t like her music, talent etc – don’t pretend she wasn’t who TF she was! Sometimes I wish Janet just went ahead and released 2 more albums in the 90’s! That BS ya’ll use about her sales being less than others would go out the window… BUT instead Quality came first!

When did any of that take place prior to the SB incident? … When her album in the era before it hit #1 in 2001? Was it after ‘All For You’ spent 7 weeks at #1 that same year? Was it during the release of “Doesn’t Really Matter'(which was another #1 hit off the album and soundtrack)? … or after the parent album of these hits sold over 3 million copies? Help me dear. Make a case! Btw, The only person I can think of being blacklisted as severely as Janet was is her brother, many others had the PRIVILEGE of being forgiven. It was never water under the bridge for some odd reason for the Jacksons.

^ I liked Conversations much better too! I understand that Unbreakable might be more fitting because of all she’s been through, but I was a bit disappointed that CIAC wasn’t being used. For some reason, I expected it to work better with the flow of the album. Still, I respect the title. It’s probably very personal and I believe this album will have a few MJ dedications (since it’s her first after his death).
Sounds interesting, I wonder what this will sound like in it’s entirety. If the subject matter wasn’t coming across so serious, I’d think this is the whimsical Janet that we get from time to time (Escapade, Runaway, Someone to Call my lover), it still could be after the final listen. I don’t think this is that dance number we’re all waiting for, but it’s nothing to turn your nose up at.

I am really loving the new snippet “The Great Forever”. I can’t tell if it’s a full song, a half-song/interlude like “Damita Jo” or whatever but it sounds urgent. Like Janet’s just got to get the message out: she’s still in control and more concerned about her journey than what others perceive as her path. The vocals are strong (and enunciated) the music is hot and it’s got passion. The song’s got me even more excited for the album. “No Sleeep” is my jam, though I’m still unsure it needed to be the lead single but I love how she’s talking about love and anticipation and not overtly about s**. This “snippet” sounds like an empowering response to the past decade+ of her life and that’s all I’ve wanted. An honest album from an artist whose biggest successes (whether commercially or artistically) came from some great observations about the joys and pains of life. Can’t wait for the album! Janet, indeed, is unbreakable.
