326,000 music lovers picked up the star’s ‘Madness’ when it hit retailers on August 28th giving him his highest opening week number in his career thus far.
The project’s sales bagged him the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 and were pushed to the 412,000 units mark when streaming points where thrown into the moody maestro’s chart mix.
These numbers make him the only artist to top the R&B infused release to top the US albums chart this year and give him the second-highest first week figure this year, behind only Drake who topped the tally with ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.’
Abel isn’t the only musician with news to celebrate this week.
Rita Ora‘s ‘Body on Me‘ glides to higher ground with the help of a Clear Channel deal similar to the one responsible for turning Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy’ into a #1 single in 2014.
The single continues to see its spins on Rhythmic radio rise as views on its official music video crossed the 19 million milestone hours ago.
That isn’t all Ora has to smile about it.
For, the single is on its way to the U.K’s Top Ten after nabbing a peak position of #23!

Republic really is the best label lately. Just like they marketed another artist on their label as the “anti-tumblr artist” and focused on how “real!!1” and “genuine, not fake!!” her music was, they decided to focus on Abel’s main fanbase (basic white girls who think leggings and $3.99 crop tops from Forever 21 is “fashion”) and it really worked wonders for him. To be honest, his album isn’t even that bad (especially for a “sellout”) so congrats.
Also still screaming at Halsey debuting with 115K. She blew up so fast, her tour sold out in minutes too and her music/lyrics end up on my dashboard every 6 seconds. The new Tumblr queen.
Speaking of Tumblr, what the f*** is Interscope doing? Honeymoon comes out in less than 2 weeks and they’re doing nothing; even I’m not hyped for it at this point. I still haven’t listened to Terrence Loves You. If it debuts with like ~100K in the US and 20K in the UK that’s all their fault.
Love Me Harder’s impact lol. Love Me Harder and 50 Shades of Grey helped usher The Weeknd into the mainstream. I’m happy for Abel, he deserves it. Love Me Harder’s impact is also seen in Body On Me, which sounds like a cheap mash-up of LMH and Jealous by Nick Jonas. After Rita is done writing a check to Clear Channel for that payola I hope she writes Ariana one for “inspiring” her song.
Taylor swift is back upto 4 in the album charts…selling another 44,000! This after being out for about 46 weeks… Still hasn’t left the top 10 since it was released!

The weeknd selling more in first week sales than rihanna ever has.
