Owned by the mass media company Vivendi UMG saw its recorded music revenues grow by 15.2% thanks to numbers moved by Lamar‘s ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ and Drake‘s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ which have sold over 642,000 and 1,023,000 units respectively.
That isn’t all. For the 17.3 million times ‘Late’ was streamed on Spotify in the first three days of its release gave the label the nudge it needed to see its streaming leap by 34%!
Meanwhile, despite seeing the label’s sales of physical music dip by 7.% Rihanna’s discography continues to pump ‘Oxygen’ into its financial body.
In July the music group saw her do her part to push Vivendi‘s revenues to the $2.9 million mark when she became the first artist to secure 100 million song certifications earned by the music she released under the its ‘Umbrella.’
The star’s success on a downloads and on-demand streaming front was elevated when her latest Urban single ‘Bitch Better Have My Money‘ crossed the Platinum barrier and 2011’s ‘We Found Love’ lock lips with 9x Platinum mark which helped the company’s net income jump 34% percent to $217m before interest.
