Chart Check: The Weeknd Fends Off Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ Yet Another Week

Even with a bevy of Vine reinterpretations of its interesting music video, Drake‘s ‘Hotline Bling’ wasn’t hot enough to dethrone The Weeknd‘s reign at #1 as it has now clocked a 6th week atop the tally.

Indeed, fans of the Young Money rapper were sure ‘Bling’s accompanying visual would be just what the doctor ordered to land his very first #1 on the Hot 100.  However, as it was released to Apple Music (which does not report its numbers to Nielsen), the streaming figures did not offer the much needed assistance to make his career-long dream a reality.

As such, contrary to analyst predictions, the Weeknd clings to the tenancy of the top spot once again.  Well, that is, until next week when Adele‘s ‘Hello’ comes sweeping through with its official figures…

I’m British and am a little confused with how the U.S charts operate guys…

Why did Beyoncé’s last album debut at number one on the BB-200 with only three day’s worth of sales but Adele’s current single hasn’t debuted at number one on the hot 100 this week and it’s been out for five days thus far? It was released Friday and doesn’t the tracking week end on a Tuesday in the U.S? Here in the U.K, the song debuted at number one after only two days sales and our tracking week ends on a Sunday.

Does somebody mind explaining; unless the U.S album and singles charts work differently altogether? I probably have this really wrong but I’d like a little insight.

Because Beyonce released her album on Friday when the official album release date was Tuesday. As of now, Friday is the official release date for albums.

Girl, Aubrey can’t catch a break! This is starting to become a big “Anaconda” mess to reach the top of the chart. I need Nicki to start promoting and stop paying her singles dust.

Enjoy that last week at “1, Abel, because we all know who’ll be holding it down effortlessly for the next month and a half.

Good. I love Drake ( I would even consider myself a fan of his) but I f****** hate that song.

If a girl is no longer a ‘good girl’ and is no longer waiting on your hands and feet then I guess you gotta go write a song about it. FOH

Adele is scary! Not scary to me but for everyone of these artists she is like the juggernaut in music right now! I’m so glad that we won’t be seeing Taylor Swift win an award and fake overreact it next year(although I like her music somewhat). Every one of our faves aren’t releasing their albums till next year early including Tinashe, Rihanna, Beyonce, Drake and the others… I suggest Chris Brown do the same with his weak ass.

Anyways, The Weeknd did great this year and will definitely be sweeping up Grammy’s next year!!! 😀
