New Song: Ciara – ‘Paint It Black’

Sultry chanteuse Ciara delves onto the dark side on the haunting ‘Paint It Black.’

The track, a cover of the Rolling Stones song of the same name, features on the soundtrack for new Vin Diesel movie ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ and serves as the first new material from the 29-year-old since the release of sixth album ‘Jackie’ earlier this year.

Notably, the cut embraces a brand of edgy Ciara had yet to experiment with until now.

Take a listen below…

Yes, yes, and yes!

It’s refreshing to see CiCi slide out of her ultra Urban and (in ‘Jackie’s’ case) primarily Pop mainstays and tackle songs with grungy grit.

Jury’s out on how much else she’ll be able to squeeze out of the ‘Jackie’ campaign, hence we’d love to see her – when the time arrives – explore more left-leaning sounds like this. For, it may just be “the” risk that finally pays off.

So where was the album that should have sounded like this??? Okay, CiCi!!

I’m just sad she doesn’t know if she wants to be full-on pop or Hip Hop. UGH!

      • Faf October 8, 2015

She sounds great wow!! This is so left field

And this is one of the rare occasions she reminds me of Aaliyah

The comparisons before were only bc they both danced but Aaliyah was headed in this direction on her last album.

  4. Lee October 8, 2015

    It’s cool…i think lol

  5. Meka October 8, 2015

DANCE LIKE WE ARE MAKING LOVE WAS HER HIT.

    SHE DROPPED THE BALL

    POOR MANAGEMENT

    • Socialyte October 8, 2015

Wrong. It’s her management that has set her up with all of these opportunities lately. Talk to the label about the single.

    • truth(nicki the reason A.I. is cancelled and Meek playn ha!!) October 8, 2015

Now THAT song was HOT!! Y didnt she promote it? It was a hit!!

  6. bash October 8, 2015

    She is so confused!!!

    • I support great music October 8, 2015

      U are confused lol

    • Shirley Evans October 8, 2015

She’s not confused but realistic, When opportunity knocks, answer the damn door. Ciara is not a one horse pony. Negative responds doesn’t define her.

  7. chanel October 8, 2015

    Very beyonce-ish honey. No.

    • dee Western October 8, 2015

First of all, lets stop equating every thing to Beyonce. Why is there so much comparison in the industry.
This is a “Winner” as far as I’m concern. All the s** and cussing in videos and concerts, is not necessary. I applaud CiCi with her impeccable creative ability.

  11. Metzo October 8, 2015

The beginning was s***. Nice go Ci

  12. Queen Molly October 8, 2015

    Soo good

  13. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans October 8, 2015

Ciara Princess Harris, well done! You’re giving me what I need and what I need most is for you to slay and destroy those charts! This is the song to do it, Ci! I hope she cracks the top 10 with this.

  14. Casual-T October 8, 2015

It’s an interesting departure, but it’s still not the right direction for her.

  15. Shady81 October 8, 2015

The song is good I like the overlapping towards the end

  16. Fancy BISH October 8, 2015

That’s funny…before this post, it never really occured to me that Ciara never truly left the “good girl” image well enough alone to experiment with edgier material…is that what’s holding her back? The model world is always cutting edge and risky…but she never really matched that world with her music…even Little Miss Ariana comes across edgier than her at times, and that’s just plain crazy lol…her edgiest moment was Love S** Magic and that actually worked…it went Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100…Like A Surgeon didn’t work cause Miss Dream wrote a creepy dud lol…but this definitely feels fresh for her…alright Miss CiCi 🙂

  17. @JanetCIARA_ October 8, 2015

Yeah well, very very nice, if only……. Smh

  18. dustin October 8, 2015

NO!!!! I’m sorry but Ciara has no business covering the Stones. This is kind of insane.

    • Anne October 8, 2015

I agree. This is not for her. Don’t like it at all. Her voice is limited to r&b, pop, or dance.

      • dustin October 8, 2015

Seriously. This isn’t even shade because I don’t care one way or the other about CiCi. But this feels and sounds like a colossal prank. And the jokes on the C-Squad.

  19. Lmfao_Hoe October 8, 2015

Yessss! Finally she’s evolving musically. I kept saying if she expanded het craft and direction theme she’ll be good. Basically she needs a Thriller, Velvet Rope, and Aaliyah (album) type songs/messages/musicianship/vision and edge. She gotta pose herself as a threat to the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce, Tinesha, and Ect other females if she wanna succeed.

  20. Ciah’s Turtle October 8, 2015

This is cuuuuuute. The cover reminds me of Teyana’s Harlem Knights campaign

  21. Skyfall October 8, 2015

    Cute.

  22. LB October 8, 2015

    Slayed

  23. Sweetnothings78 October 8, 2015

    YESSSSSS MYYYY GIRLLLL

  24. Monica Stan October 8, 2015

Ciara is done. No one cares about her music. She is a much better model than singer. She should stick with that.

    • Amazon Chanteur October 8, 2015

Shut that sh!t up. No one’s checking for monocant and her boring tunes.

  25. CL October 8, 2015

TBH when I heard the snippet in the Trailer I was worry as to how the Whole Song would sound because that part in the trailer was perfect and because true original RS is so weird in a cool way, but this song literally is PERFECT! I love it something different for a Ciara sound and I am in love with it ! I’m so glad she did this song.

  26. toohotfortv October 8, 2015

I at first thought “how dare she” but, I’m sorry. . . She really did well with that. I think there she definitely shines best as pop but, I think there has to be an understanding that the best pop has always had an element of experimentation, the underground or (at least) nostalgia.

  27. 4everBrandy_Ci October 8, 2015

Ciara is evolving as an artist and I’m glad she had the opportunity to cover this song! She’s really coming into her own as an artist. I know she will f****** slay me in Baltimore on the 4th of December!!!!! Go CiCi!!!!!

  28. Rihboy October 8, 2015

Paint it depressing and uninteresting . Girl bye. Stick to two stepping.

    • 4everBrandy_Ci October 8, 2015

GIRL BYE! You need to stick to being on the sidelines cheering for your Queen. #Undercoverfan 😉

  29. What now October 8, 2015

She stays depressing fans ww. She has ruined Janet, MJ, now Rolling Stones, and let’s not 4get the traditional Star Bangled Banner n less than a year. Someone steal this b****’s microphone b4 she attempts I Will Always Love You (Whitney’s version).

    • 4everBrandy_Ci October 8, 2015

You’re a Rihanna fan and that delusional comment you made last post shows are some of you PRESSED imbeciles are. Ciara has you seething!!!!! Keep being a delusional stan. You don’t speak for #C-SQUAD either!!!!!

  30. RICHIE_RICH October 8, 2015

    This is hot!!!!!

  31. B**** I Can’t Even Spell Welfare October 8, 2015

You know what CiCi, go full Dawn Richard on the next album & call it a day!

THIS is the direction that she needs to go in. I love it!

  32. Me October 8, 2015

People are saying Ciara flopped when she’s selling out tours? Booking mad modeling deals, having legends want to cover for her? Sports wanting her to sing national anthems? What is this 2005? Tall swear she can’t sing, when her improvement is OBVIOUS, the girl is now stepping out of her comfort zone and building herself an empire. She’s one of the few RnB females who survived to industry running 11-12 years now. And tall still want to be petty, for what? Lmao yea her team is shityy and so are her album sales, but that doesn’t define an artists quality or flexibility with various talents and opportunity. Ciara took the whole cake this year. Stellar record you got here girl, go in this direction. this song has RnB undertone it’d be amazing if Ciara creates her own gernre of rock and RnB

  33. cocobutta October 8, 2015

Ok serving me some Queen of The Damned.

CiCi vocal sits real well on this sound. Good experiment

  34. King Mark111 /.\ October 9, 2015

Why won’t she take this type of risk on HER albums? Great job Ciara.

  35. xx October 9, 2015

This is what I been waiting for from her.She is allowed to completely embrace her voice in this song.I love when R&B artist break the mold.

  36. Lh October 10, 2015

This is wonderful. So many opportunities for Ciara.
