She may have said “goodbye” to the perch of the Hot 100 this week thanks to Justin Bieber, but on the album side of charts, there’s no dethroning Adele.
Indeed, shifting another 194,000 units (164k pure sales), the ‘Hello’ hitmaker greeted yet another week atop the Billboard 200. Bringing her overall count to 7.6 million in 7 weeks, ’25’s reign over the album charts comes as the longest consecutive run by a female in nearly 30 years.
“…25 becomes the first album by a woman to spend its first seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart since 1987 (and the first since Nielsen Music’s electronically-scanned point-of-sale data began powering the chart in 1991).
The only other album by a woman to chart its first seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 was Whitney Houston’s second album, Whitney, which bowed atop the list dated June 17, 1987, and ruled for 11 straight frames (through the chart dated Sept. 5).”

Whitney Houston will forever remain a VOCAL LEGEND and POP ICON whom broke records, set records and cemented her status when Adele in Diapers. She will never be above or beyond Whitney regardless of the records she takes that once belonged to her – records are meant to be broken essentially – and the same goes for Mariah, Celine, M.J and whomever else.
Anyway, BOWIE is snatching the #1 spot next week and purpose is already selling more than 25 in the mid week charts this week so Bieber may be #1 the week after or so. I think 25 will stall at 7.5 – 8.5 million for a few months now unless she releases another single and it becomes a HIT!

Janet Jackson may have had her most iconic era after 4 albums but Ray of Light > anything Janet Jackson has ever and will ever release.
In fact in the whole 90s era, there’s not a single album that comes close to Madonna’s Ray of light in terms of quality, production and impact. This is why Janet, despite having more talent than Madonna lost to her and is also why Beyonce will lose to Rihanna.
As Rated R proved, when it comes to a quality project, Rihanna shits on Beyonce any day and Rihanna’s Ray of light is coming, I cannot wait for it.

Well, I think people don´t understand what breaking a record is. Nobody had done this in the last 30 years, since whitney (female debuting at #1 and spending 7 consecutive weeks at the top). But TGJ: she has not broken that Whitney record (still) since Whitney stayed 11 weeks (consecutive) right after debuting at #1. So she HAS NOT BROKEN the record.
That Whitney Houston record is beyond words by the way. With that second album of hers she was THE FIRST FEMALE in music history to DEBUT at #1 on the Billboard 200. Not even a white woman or anything (not even Barbra, or Madonna). No woman before her. What I didn´t know is that she stayed there 11 consecutive WEEKS right after the debut. Which is all kinds of incredible. So no woman had ever done that and she goes and does it and stays there for a record breaking 11 first weeks, a record still not broken 30 years later??? A motherfucking legendary queen. Not to mention there was real HUGE competition 30 years ago. While now it´s only Adele doing it.
That said great for Adele, what she has done these last 5 years is amazing. Nobody thought we would ever see this again. I would have prefered to see it happening to an even more gifted artist (musically) than her. But it´s ok.
