LaToya Jackson Questions Janet Jackson Super Bowl Snub

Last night saw Coldplay, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars blaze the Super Bowl Halftime Show with a spirited performance – celebrating the present and past of the annual extravaganza.

The end of the spectacle saw the Chris Martin led ensemble pay homage to previous headliners including James Brown and Michael Jackson.

MJ’s elder sister LaToya Jackson took to social media to show her appreciation but also vent about the absence of sister Janet in the montage.

Full story below…

As widely reported, the ‘BURNITUP!’ singer’s 2004 performance has been etched in the history books after “that” moment with Justin Timberlake.

For LaToya, though, it should have still been included:

On the one hand, we’re absolutely in agreement. Janet’s performance – sans the scandal – remains one of the most iconic showings in Super Bowl history.

Yet, on the flip side, it’s also one of the most controversial.

Hence, while we’d have loved to see the NFL and the sponsors attached finally let bygones be bygones, it’s ultimately not hard to see why it wasn’t spotlighted.

In a way, one has to question how beneficial it’d even be to her now to remind everyone so explicitly of the drama.

Still, those who know about the slayage of the actual performance…know. And if you don’t…

Your thoughts?

    Still boycott.
it’s terrible how this incident destroy her career…

  2. Ok. February 8, 2016

As a Janet fan, I’m not surprised by this. The performance was awesome and powerful! Her costume designer said she did Rhythm Nation because the US was at war.

  3. Royalkev February 8, 2016

I was surprised by the omission. Aside from MJ, Janet’s halftime show remains one of the most identifiable of all time. Although Janet’s seen most of the backlash from “the incident”, her halftime performance just about single-handedly made performing at SB a milestone reached in one’s career (in the last 10 years). It would have been decent to give Janet some credit/acknowledgement and show a clip from her performance that wasn’t controversial. Just as Whitney’s National Anthem is a standard for vocalist that has taken it on (following behind her), Janet clearly comes to mind each year, when women headliners are announced. These kind of pioneers shouldn’t be ignored.

For me,Janet and Prince had the best halftime performances ever…Whatever damage that scandal did to her career, miss Damita should always be proud of putting the kind of show she did

  5. Barb-wire February 8, 2016

Janet’s halftime was is my second best to Michael’s scandal or no scandal. I see Superbowl is still blackballing her! How petty…

The truth is, up until N*pple-gate, Janet could really do no wrong. Where her peers, Mariah, Whitney and her brother Michael were facing heavy media scrutiny for their personal lives, she was still going strong and was further asserting her legendary status. It’s just sad how it forever changed the course of her career. I mean, a decline was inevitable seeing that she was approaching her 40s and a new crop of girls were coming up but at least she could’ve done so without the horrible treatment by mainstream America. I respect Justin Timberlake as a showman and an overall talent, but this was a clear-cut case of White male privilege. She still slayed though and the way she walked down those stairs. BISH was on point!

You hit the nail on the head!

    • Royalkev February 8, 2016

I agree, Janet could do no wrong prior to SB and the mistreatment almost seemed vindictive. I think it has a lot also to do with being a Jackson. Many weren’t fond of the idea of this brother/sister combination dominating the music industry!

They were unstoppable at one time! Off The Wall(’79)/ Thriller(’82)/ Control(’86)/ Bad(’87)/ Rhythm Nation(’89) all came along before a Jackson saw their first scandal. Eventually enough was enough and it’s obvious that the plan was to divide and conquer. At least one Jackson had to be down, while the other was up.
      In the 80’s: both praised
      90’s: F*** MJ, love Janet
      00’s: F*** MJ & Janet
      ’10’s: F*** Janet, love MJ.
It both won’t be fully celebrated again until both are no longer here … and hopefully that won’t be any time soon, God willing.

You’re all mad. First of all, no one would dare go near Janet’s career-ending spectacle during their SB performance. Second of all, CBS and the NFL wouldn’t have allowed it even if they had tried. Michael’s homage was enough.

    • Truth(Nicki WHACK and Adele FAT…WHET!!) February 8, 2016

      Fu ck u

      • Linear February 8, 2016

Oh, are you bothered because you know what I’m saying is true? Ha. Be mad! 😉

    • Umm February 8, 2016

But you know in the 50 years of performances it’s hard not to think of her’s. This is the problem with white America they always trying to sweep s*** under the rug and act like it never happened instead of embracing it. Thats a part of super bowl history and no amount of cover up will make us forget.

Girl janets was an epic fail.

57k biitch. Let that sink un

  9. Janetfan February 8, 2016

The truth I think, is really a factor of envy ! Janet’s beautiful face and lovely smile is just stabbing the envious people in the heart. They were just waiting for the opportunity to release the hatred that was so deeply imbedded in their hearts. This is 2016, and the media still talking about 2004. Lord have mercy. Janet is not responsible for being such a beautiful woman. God is our creator. Terrible to go through life envying people of their looks ! No matter how much envy and hatred people attack her with its not going to change the fact that Janet Jackson is very attractive and talented! A blessing from God!

  10. pat February 8, 2016

They’re trying to erase it from Superbowl history. It will always be synonymous w the super bowl.

    • blue February 8, 2016

janet has one of the most dignified image in the industry, even at her sexiest she was always classy

  11. blue February 8, 2016

its just puzzling. We live in an era where rihanna could literally show up not sing a note strip to her birth suit and be praised for empowering woman (and it would be the most amazing thing to ever happen to humanity.) and yet they cant forgive janet? Hope for their sake they invite her back before they go with JT again or the full weight of angry black feminists will fall upon them, rihanna might just strip during her’s as a protest.

    • Linear February 8, 2016

Janet cost them money. CBS spent the rest of the 00s in court with the FCC and paying fines for that one night. For that reason alone they’ll never invite her back. If Rihanna showed up and got naked, they would know ahead of time that it was what she planning to do and take whatever precautions to ensure that it would be no skin off them. They didn’t know what Janet was planning and weren’t ready to deal with the fallout.

      • @Linear February 8, 2016

All of those fines were tossed.

  12. What now February 8, 2016

They didn’t want to attach their names to Nipplegate. Duh.

  13. LmfaoHoe February 8, 2016

F*** em. Janet was amazing too, her energy and presence was perfect. If it wasn’t for Janet YouTube wouldn’t exist! Her breast gave YouTube a platform (s*** should claim royalities) but aside that. This was their perfect timing at attacking her. The media was on full affect to destroy our black entertainers at point – MJ, Whitney, and Mariah. Since Janet is a Jackson and was still repping her family name including Michael the media wasn’t gonna go for it. S*** like that pathetic asf cause I don’t recall Miley V**** being blacklisted from radio or TV after her disgusting MTV performance with Robin (white previlage alive and well) and had that been Bey, Riri, Ciara or any black performer all hell would’ve broke loose.

    • Truth February 8, 2016

That disgusting MTV performance was on cable in primetime. Miley wasn’t twerking on Robin on network tv in front of grandmothers and 6 year olds during the “family event” that is the Superbowl. Stop trying to martyr Janet. She should have kept her clothes on.

      • Tone February 8, 2016

B**** you mean Justin should never ripped her bra off. Get it right. F*** you and Miley.

  14. Avi February 8, 2016

Blah…blah…blah. It’s over. Janet’s over. Move on. Only an idiot would attach themselves to that.

  15. Umm February 8, 2016

I forgot why i hated JT this just reminded me. Why the hell you wouldn’t blame the man in this situation when he even says “Ima have you naked by the end of this song” then BOOM tiddy. He always trying to make music like us and doing horrible black inspired dance moves with his minsicule talent. Janet was the show and it was great we saw her nipple for like 5 secs, damn.

  16. RIP February 8, 2016

They didn’t even show all of the half time performances! Why are people making something out of nothing and why would they have her up there anyway? The only thing people remember is the nipple incident, not the performance. The only people who remember the performance are hardcore Janet fans! It’s not that serious to be writing dissertations and essays.Im sure janet’s not bothered.

  17. FC/JC February 8, 2016

No other bittch can compare to that iconic performance, Nipple or not. Janet is QUEEN of the Superbowl, even being blacklisted! We will never forget!

    Justice4Janet!

  18. eric February 8, 2016

If people stopped going out to buy Janet’s albums and tickets to her concerts because of the SB, were they ever really fans? On the flip side, Janet contributed to the shift in her career when she parted ways with Jimmy & Terry and hooked up with JD. Also, she hired Gil Duldulao as her creative director and that largely impacted her visual appeal…and not in the most flattering way. Janet’s music this time around is amazing and her image is finally closer to where it should be, but once again, Janet is the only one holding things back (e.g. not going to daytime and late night television for performances and interviews). Janet is my favorite artist and I’ve got my ticket for the Unbreakable tour, but I’ll be the first to say that a big part of where Janet’s career is now is her responsibility. She can do better.

    • Shady 81 February 9, 2016

I totally agree with you @Eric not only that Gil’s not just her Creative Director but her Choreographer as well and the man’s work is just tragic to watch but that still lies on her full throttle, and she didn’t promote the album at all. But personally for me alot of things come to mind from behind the scenes but I’ll leave my thoughts in my mind. Because she’s never did this before it’s highly unlike her, I can see she doing this in 2004 with the black balling and such but why not promote now? Something ain’t right behind the scenes and it’s not just professional but personal as well, you know she’s the queen of promotion and marketing but this right here speaks volumes and it tells me she’s pretty unhappy at least that’s what I see.

  19. yesterday was Aaliyah 37birthday to the good music February 8, 2016

    Nice of Letoy’s Jackson

  20. Navy Nick February 9, 2016

LeToya is 100% right..they need to get over it; Janet is Queen-period.
