R&B icon Brandy serves up 1920’s sass in the video for soulful new single ‘Beggin’ & Pleadin.”

Armed with the momentum generated from her performance of the song at Black Girls Rock earlier this month, the 37-year-old singer/actress aims to push the track (the first on her own label, Slayanna Records) to new heights.

Will its accompanying visual aid her cause? Watch Mike Ho production below and let us know…

A commendable effort.

All involved captured the essence of the throwback reference exceptionally well.

Our only gripe would be the absence of more choreography; perhaps an “old skool” dance-break.

Still, given that this is the first video she has released in four years (and it’s undeniably decent), there’s little to complain about.

Kudos!

    No VEVO, huh?

  2. Weaveney April 15, 2016

    Beggin & Pleadin … for a hit.

    • Blacksista April 16, 2016

Such a cheap shot. Surely you can do better than that…

  3. gurlbye April 15, 2016

I liked it. She was giving me early Whitney in some of her look and movements.

    • Royalkev April 15, 2016

Omg, I thought it was just me! I saw a few striking Whitney poses in this video for sure! It reminds me of ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’ and something else I can’t think of right now …

    LATE! Luh u B-Rocka!

  5. Fola April 15, 2016

Okay, here’s the thing. Huge Huge fan of Brandy. Know the struggle well and have always adored that voice and the artistry. “Begging & Pleading” is such a remarkable song but this video does it no justice! i get that she’s doing it indie and the label is being all messed up but come on Bran’Nu! how can these visuals keep us glued in the era of Beyonce and gaga and all that (its not about playing up the s***, just be more creative visually). Even Xtina did it right with the video for “Ain’t no other man”
Still a big believer and supporter but i just needed to speak up cause i want Brandy to win cause the chick deserves it

    • Joë Moon April 15, 2016

Seriously? I haven’t seen all of it but from what I have seen it’s her most creative video since What About Us?

    • Tisha April 15, 2016

Y’all folks complain too damn much. Fck a Gaga, fck a Beyonce, fck a Xtina & let Brandy do Brandy. Brandy has been on same stage with the greats such as Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Whitney Houston, Gladys Knight, and even Tony Bennett as a teenager. Brandy already wrote the book on it, she’s been there done that. Trust me most of those chicks has followed Brandy’s blueprint. I betcha any money they wondering how Brandy is getting all this promo from BET as a independent artist.

      • justme April 15, 2016

Brandy has been where and done what.. I love brandy.. But she is more domestic then international

      • BIGGES AALIYAHFAN April 15, 2016

Thank You Tisha!!! As for you “justme” you must be young the people Brandy has been on stage with many people they just run into them at the supermarket. Brandy met so many legends and was so international by the she 18. Do your history first.

      • jamon April 16, 2016

@justme, Brandys “Never say Never” album has sold more internationally then then all of those artist. No shade to them

    • cocobutta April 15, 2016

Perfect thanks. Looks much better now. Thanks again for link x

Lord can Princess Love detach her a$s off Ray J. She just there plain faced adding nothing.

Dance breakdown. Most great singers known for their vocals don’t have dance break downs. This song is in no need of a dance break down it does what it’s supposed to, puts vocals on the forefront. Slay bih!

  7. cocobutta April 15, 2016

A dance BREAK ??? Come on TGJ when you’re tired beggin and pleadin you are not dance breaking to nobody.

The essence of the lyrics and depth of wording doesn’t give me a “wave me back” dance break.

Think Brandy could have used her connections to polish video a bit more but I prob need to see a vevo version.
Also her moves by the mic I wasn’t so keen on but theme fits great.

After seeing video you kind of think its a song where the video doesn’t enchance the song but hey thought same for my girls Just Right For Me.

Boss moves using own coins though

    Lol another flop #14yearsalessor

    • RihYonce April 15, 2016

But she slayed Monica in the 90s & probably could still outsell her

      • Kitty Puurrzz April 15, 2016

She SLAYED Mo in the 90s & Mo SLAYED her in the 00s. Brandy hasn’t had a hit or a selling album since the 90s. Monica has After a The Storm(Platinum) & Still Standing(Gold) … Have several seats.

      • Joë Moon April 15, 2016

@kitty why are you here? You hate Brandy so your presence here is iffy.

      • Full Moon April 15, 2016

And B**** Brandy has the CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED &CULT FAV Full Moon (platinum) and Afrodisiac(gold). BRANDy is not a one trick pony… You know what I’m not even gonna go there because I like Monica. It’s funny how her so called “fans” only make appearances on Brandy posts.

  9. TalkthatTalk April 15, 2016

    Slayana!!!

  10. RihYonce April 15, 2016

Brandy has always been one of my favorite vocalist, this video didn’t need a dance breakdown. I’m really liking this song . B-Rocka really snapped I just hope she really promotes this as much as she can . I hope she’s performing at the BET Awards this year. Gotta start somewhere. Either way she’s a respected legend. Love you brandy !!

  11. IG : @mixedboy April 15, 2016

I liked the video. I do feel something is missing from it. Like it was too short. Dance scene NO! I do think they could’ve added like some acting with no music. Maybe her confronting the guy and slapping him or something. But good effort nonetheless. Love Brandy.

    • RihYonce April 15, 2016

I agree the video could’ve been longer & had a story to it maybe a little dancing nothing too much , this would’ve been a good 9 minute video with a story line I always wanted her to do something like that

  12. RihYonce April 15, 2016

Brandy is a vocal queen !! Just slays my life when she sings this song ! Don’t y’all act like Brandy don’t have influence on your favs !

  13. k April 15, 2016

    nice.

  14. Dev April 15, 2016

Y’all always looking for a dance break. Dancing isn’t essential to someones talent or artistry, you can’t see dance breaks when you’re listening to the song and (most) grown folks just want good music that seems to be lacking as people want slim, pretty, sexual and can dance over vocals. It’s nice if you can dance, but if singing is your occupation and you do it well, so be it

  15. Da Realest April 15, 2016

Y’all let’s try to get Brandy on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. I don’t care if Beggin & Pleading sitting at number 90, as long as she’s on there. That’s a celebration within itself having another black female r&b artist on billboard 100. I’m even celebrating that two black female rappers has made it to the Billboard 100 charts, Remy Ma and this new chick name Dreezy. They might be charting in the 80’s numbers, but damn it they on there. We need to start celebrating when we see different black artists start charting billboard 100 and I don’t care at what number they reach, at least they’re there.

  16. Full Moon April 15, 2016

Brandy is in her zone and I love it! She finally doesn’t care about the publics opinion and has the artistic freedom that she deserves. I can’t wait for the slayana tour to hit the states.

  17. 2bad2bme April 15, 2016

I was excited the whole way through the video. It just felt right! The video looked like a professional video we used to watch in the early 2000s and not like these new HD iPhone cam corder videos with a lot of effect we see nowa days. Her best vid since who is she to you!

  18. credits April 15, 2016

This much promo and a great visual with no major label or “musical freedom”….it’s bittersweet. i don’t get how she could do this much if she is locked into a bad contract….

    • just sayin April 15, 2016

      with her own money perhaps?

    • MUSICHEAD April 15, 2016

Her contract is suspended with Chameleon and she never signed to Epic so technically she can do what she wants. She just can’t sign with a major label until she is released from Chameleon. But she can fund her own projects independently.

  19. Michael Johnson April 15, 2016

Why even post this grainy video..

  20. Lake Erie April 15, 2016

Love it! Her voice really engaged me into it too. Everything Brandy does is official. Can’t wait for a vevo release tho.. And especially the Album!

  21. GAslickmouf April 15, 2016

While Monica still holding on to long lasting notes that doesn’t make sense after the first few seconds, Brandy still continue to deliver the reason why she is the vocal bible. I be like damn is she really holding the same long ass note girl Monica do something else with your voice Miss Tang

  22. Kissed Down Low (Rowland Stone) April 15, 2016

Lacklustre. Seen it all before. Predictable. Boring… Much like Zoe Ever After. NOTHING ORIGINAL. it’s a shame though, it was a good song

  23. MUSICHEAD April 15, 2016

    Dear children,

Brandy has absolutely nothing left to prove. Her catalog is r&b gold and her career is legendary. Beyonce and Christina Aguilera are not her peers, they came later. Brandy’s peers are those who rose alongside her…Monica, Toni Braxton,Mary J, Faith Evans etc. and she stands tall beside each of those great talents. Please enjoy the video or move on.

  24. daidai80 April 15, 2016

Why is Monica’s name coming up this Is Brandy’s video. And im sure that just as a person. You bringing this negative energy to her art is very frustrating. Like yall need to chill wit that.Monica just got off tour she working Brandy working- this aint the place for Monica’s name to come up. Lets just enjoy Brandy

  25. Sexyforreal April 15, 2016

Real recognize real. No competition here. Brandy stay true to herself which in how it should be. She Don’t have to bully people to like her. I love how she grow and share her experience. Being yourself is really important and respect yourself, it will show through the music. She is a classic that can hold her own. #keepthetourchburning

  26. FreedomRinger April 15, 2016

Love the cinematic angles on Brandy .. I I havent seen her in this type of element before.. Lovin it and Lovin tht shes doin her..Would love some Dance choregraghy one day soon!! That Baseline deserves that, but still a fearless Track, and Cinematic visual

  27. Samsung brought my albums April 15, 2016

    Yasssss trandy!

  28. Royalkev April 15, 2016

I’m feeling Bran’s Shug Avery swag! I wish I could see a clear clip of this video, but I like what I viewed so far! I do think Bran could of added some choreography, but the visual still seem to capture all that Brandy was going for.

  29. eric April 15, 2016

I like that Brandy is trying something different, but I don’t think this song and style suits her.

  30. Mocha23 April 16, 2016

We have to do better by our artist! We gotta support our own she is so talented! It’s ridiculous to try to humiliate and embarrass her!

  31. dee.western April 16, 2016

Brandy, I must applaud you on this hit. Talkin about going back to those days of the blues….I must commend all of my chocolate superstar singers, your music has reached an all time high. BLACK GIRLS ROCK!!! AND ROCK!!!!!!
