The live fun continues on Mariah Carey‘s ‘Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour’ this week!
Celebrated for being one of the entertainer’s more entertaining live shows the tour reached new heights recently when she delivered a moving performance of her 1997 number ‘My All’ in Finland.
Supported by well-placed pre-recorded vocals the singer soared through the number as she hopes to do just as well with the new album the tour was created to support.

See the thing about Mariah is she has vocal nodules. The lady has a vocal condition that’s very serious but people don’t understand & she won’t tell her fans about it. She needs to sit down with Oprah & really explain what happened with her voice. Carey is inconsistent with live vocals NOT because of her technique or drinking… It’s due to those vocal nods. If she didn’t have those nods… Man this woman would be hitting notes left & right but unfortunately that’s not her reality. I’ve gained so much respect for her. Well she was able to hit her notes pretty much effortlessly because she was in her prime and didn’t have to worry about her voice getting tired. At the peak of daydream, she was recording nonstop and tommy matolla pretty much abused her voice and then all the drama with the divorce rumors came and added Mariah more stress
Wow the miseducated. Vocal nodules do NOT help with her whistle. Vocal Nodules are developed by yelling or singing the way she and Whitney did. Hints as to why her voice changed over the years because the vocal nodules started to develop. So if Mariah did have them removed she would be able to sing with ease but there are risk for having them removed which is why most singers don’t have it done.

Marian performances to me in the 90’s where inconsistent as well. Sometimes she couldn’t deliver the same studio quality that she could live.specifically with songs like dreamlover her cover of open arms. I never seen a performance of those songs exactly like studio.

My favorite Marian albums are daydream, butterfly and her debut. All very consistent albums. I would include music box but it’s a hoy AC filer mess with no personality or creativity outside of a few tracks like dream lover, without you, any time you need a friend and music box. The rest is a mess

Gladys knight, Ms Franklin, and Patti still have great voices. So there is no excuse for Mariah struggle in holding simple notes.

Anyways, Carey’s nodules helped with her hitting whistle tones only. But, they’re still not healthy. Carey has been singing with a damaged voice her entire career. Those nods got worse as she got older. Which lead to her having to lip sync! The lipping is to preserve a damaged voice & stretch it out for as long as it can go. It sucks, but that’s her reality. Personally, I would rather her have a healthy chest belting voice than some superficial whistles. But, obviously she loved that part of her voice. And, it really helped her create her own sound in POP. So, I get why she never got them removed. But, they’re not healthy at all. It’s what your “fave” (which I don’t believe) Adele suffered from & had to get surgery ASAP. Also, there’s a possibility of losing your voice all-together from having nodule surgery! Remember that popular opera singer (I forget her name) had to retire because she developed nodules & got the surgery but it butchered not only her singing but speaking voice.
So it’s not THAT easy to just go & get it done. Very risky thing.

Your opinion is trash. She was one of the best POPular vocalist of the 1990s but not in general. She’s NEVER shown flawless technique of a Joan Sutherland or a Maria Callas! Those are what you call SOME OF THE BEST VOCALIST IN THE WORLD & to ever LIVE! Their technique was vocal perfection. Every part of those Opera singers voices were connected & fluid that it was scary. If you truly believe a pop/R&B singer is one of the best vocalist ever, then you certainly have low standards. Vocally, in this decade Carey’s vocal damage has increased so of course you won’t hear the same voice as was heard during the 90s. Mariah, Whitney and Celine have done like no other one in the last 30 years. They are all amazing. That type of amazing stuff that maisntream doesn´t offer anymore.

Me and Steph talked about this on the phone, MC’s music is so layered with a wide ranges of vocals that it’s hard to do LIVE. She isn’t a great vocal performer like Whitney, but like Steph said, Whitney been singing since a child in church, Mariah didn’t. I don’t have time, but the best example I can use is Whitney with Run To You. Run is a externally hard song to sing because of the quick and ease switches from head to chest voice and repeats. There’s not one video of Whitney singing that song, why? Because she knew she wouldn’t be able to hit those notes on the spot. Fatina tried at the first BET Awards and failed, but got an A for effort. THAT”S MC’s whole music career, the way that she records her songs, no one can do it LIVE. That’s why I call her a studio vocalist. To do a MC song, you might have to have 6 girls, each in charge of a different key and tone. In closing, MC just need to re arrange her songs LIVE and stop trying to act like it’s 1996, kinda what she did here.

Furthermore, Mariah’s songs are way harder than WH’s. Her voice is more agile. Being able to belt doesn’t make you better. Mariah had the better upper register between the two anyway. She is an outstanding singer. So don’t try to bs everyone with the WH analogy….
