Kaput! Ke$ha‘s performance at this Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards has been axed – it has been confirmed.
The reason?
Dr. Luke‘s label, to who she is still signed (despite a very public legal battle) has opposed the showing – which was reportedly set to be a controversial reply to her current drama.

Dick Clark Productions, the producers of the show, released the following statement:
“Kesha accepted an invitation to perform on the show and she received written approval from Dr. Luke’s record label, Kemosabe Records. Kemosabe subsequently rescinded its approval following a media report on Wednesday May 11 regarding Kesha’s appearance on the BBMAs. Unfortunately, Kesha and Kemosabe have since been unable to come to an agreement for Kesha to perform on the show.
Dick Clark Productions has a long standing relationship with Kesha. We hope that the parties can come to an arrangement such that we can continue that long standing relationship with a performance by Kesha on the Billboard Music Awards stage on May 22nd.”
Given what the performance was set to be, it’s hardly surprising.
We’ll keep saying it, but the entire episode is all sorts of unfortunate.

Hold up! What kind of f’ed up record deal does this girl have? I knew that labels could refuse to release an album. But banning an artist from performing live?
And as bad as it is for Kesha, it’s just as bad for Dr. Luke. Who’s gonna wanna work with his triflin’ ass now?
Even if things were good between her and the label who wants to be signed to a label that has complete control over any and everything? Maybe stoping the performance of songs that Kemosabe owns but outside of albums, to have control over when she performs and doesn’t sounds like slavery. Either way Kemosabe loses. Had they allowed her to perform she would have bashed them, blocking her performance makes them look like jerks and shows what their really capable of. They need to let this girl go without any retailiation. Any other company would have been cut ties with a artist bringing this much negative promo. This is more personal than they want to admit.
Dr Luke seems like he owns her sexually mentally physically and so on, man she is a god damn slaves. it’s the first time i ever seen anything like this in the music game,i have heard about alot of stuff but it’s the first time i have really seen it like this.

Rah I don’t know why you would t just fufill you’re duty and contract at this point. If your fanbase truly supports you they should still have you back but thing is I don’t think she is in public as an it girl anymore. Her time has come and go. And I say this as a fan but she should be grateful she still has a record deal and is able to release Maui. At this point her last album was great sonically but flopped. Honestly due to performance and projected future I almost would have dropped her.
