Well think again, because the cut’s co-writer has revealed that its lyrics have absolutely nothing to do with the rapper and everything to do with Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment.

Though it’s always cool to score a look into Bey’s creative kitchen, we wonder if confessions like these take away from the organic feeling the entertainer is going for this era.
For, some might argue that it becomes difficult to push a personal project when its co-writers step forward to share that the artist may not know what a song on said album is really about.
That being said, it’s always awesome to hear how and why a song has been built, especially one as powerful as ‘Drought.’
The whole album theme gas nothing to do with Jay Z. It just a made up story like most artist do ????

Beyonce’s latest publicity stunt, playing off the record as if it is based on Beyonce will see her make around $250 million from album sales, touring, merchandise.

Honest question. Has Beyoncè ever said the album was about Jay Z? Where are the receipts where she is quoted as saying that album is about Jay Z? Aren’t the media the ones who concluded it was about Jay Z? Beyoncè is a business woman and exists to share her gift – this album (however we speculate it was intended to be interpreted) is a Boss move. Period.

Not sure why people believed the mess in the first place. She has always been a private person and rumors of him cheating have always been out there. This was just a brilliant marketing strategy that probably had nothing to do with their marriage. The album did well because she allowed everyone to assume whatever they wanted.
Exactly. It doesn’t really matter if she knew the origins of the writers intent. Beyonce still chose the songs she did to fit the narrative for the story she wanted to sell.

Also, what she is saying seems kind of muddled to me. If she has a personal relationship with Bey, and is contracted to write for Bey, why would other’s in the company tell her otherwise.

It only ruins it if you don’t know how to consume art. Art is meant to be constantly repurposed & often means one thing to you and another to someone else.
I don’t think majority of those songs on “Lemondade” have anything to do with Jay-a however she took those songs a created a “story” knowing the media and her fans would automatically link her marriage to the songs. The elevator fight and the endless divorce rumors worked to her advantage. Besides “Don’t Hurt Yourself, Hold Up, and Sorry I think most of them are songs about other peopl however it fit the theme of the album and helped her visually tell a story!

Y’all acting like Bey is going to fire this girl, they’re childhood friends. It’s nice to see that Bey actually have friends outside of DC cause…yea! But it’s very disappointing that theres more news about how this album is just a marketing ploy and not as personal as Beyonce made it seem. Like, I thought she at least wrote the poems in the movie but no, a Nigerian poet did. I actually haven’t listened to the album since it dropped, without the visuals (which weren’t as strong as BEYONCE visual) most of these songs are boring and just don’t age well. Maybe it’s the fact that we got everything in one night, it made the whole era seem done. But, I’m just waiting for B7.

Sweetheart I listened to the album and Mrs. Carter definitely made it seem personal. “4” was personal on a musical basis, Beyonce basically exploited her marriage and made it seem as if she was really hurting and divorcing J. Baby you read into as everyone else, you didn’t get that it wasn’t real till “Sandcastles” & “All Night” like everyone was did. You can’t talk about leaving your husband for someone else’s penis without having ppl think your being personal, like TF. And I’ve listened to the album the entire week it dropped, it just didn’t age well. This album is not as good as 4 or BEYONCE, tho it does have better potential singles, as a full body of work it gets dry after “6 Inch”. Visually…the videos shouldn’t even be compared to her last. Her last visuals were stunning where as these videos are not as sticking. Hell, with out the visuals neither BEYONCE or Lemonade are that much impressive, it’s just the fact that it’s Beyonce y’all bandwagon!

The album was written about Mama Tina’s marriage to Matthew Knowles before she decided to leave for good (lemonade was recorded before She released Ring off which was on the re release of her self titled album) which was originally supposed to be on this album. She wanted to honor her mothers story in light of her new marriage and being happy again.
The art of interpretation is to deliver it in your own way, refine it to fit your sound and put your emotion into a song.
It’s a good thing Bey didn’t know the true meaning behind it as she may have put a whole different tempo to lyrics and swag to phrasing. She made it about the theme she wanted for the album.
