They’re Coming! Details On Kelly Rowland’s ‘Chasing Destiny’ Group’s Album & Promo Plans

Kelly Rowland‘s ‘Chasing Destiny’ climaxed in fine form this week on BET.

The hit talent-search, which saw the singer and creative director Frank Gatson create a new girl group, gripped viewers week in week out; and with the five-piece formed, attention has turned to their future.

To whet appetites, the ladies (who landed a deal over at Epic Records) released buzz cut ‘All Of Us’ – which was met with praise upon its release.

And there’s much more excitingness on the horizon.

See what we mean below…

In a new feature in the LA Times, the following was confirmed:

  • The group have recorded over 30 songs in the two-months they’ve been formed – half of which were submitted to label-head LA Reid for their album.
  • Producers on the LP include Harmony Samuels (Destiny’s Child), Dem Jointz (Janet Jackson), DJ Camper, and The Stereotypes (Danity Kane).
  • The group’s sound is described as “edgy pop-oriented R&B of Destiny’s Child and SWV with the bite of Total, TLC and the short-lived Electrik Red.”
  • Recorded songs include:– ‘L.A.N.C.E’ (a fiery women’s anthem that tells the tale of an unfaithful man)
    ‘Wrap Around’ (sassy, bouncy)
    ‘Facts’ (sensual, slinky)
‘You Know Why You Calling’ (a banger)
    ‘Problem’ (another banger)
‘Ratchet Life’ – (smartly written number that sees the women offering tough love to a friend)
  • Their first official single is due soon [‘All Of Us’ is not the song]
  • The group don’t yet have a name. 1310, the number of their first apartment together, was almost agreed on but superstitions surrounding “13” saw plans changed. Other options, more than 20 in total, have been hindered by the fact they’ve legally been obtained by other bands – some of who aren’t even active.
  • The quintet’s first TV performance is to take place on ABC’s new show ‘Greatest Hits.’ Due to air this summer, the music series sees contemporary artists and legacy acts performing records that defined the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Kelly’s group will salute En Vogue while their label-mates Fifth Harmony will perform a Destiny’s Child medley.

This just cranked our excitement levels up a notch!

  2. Annalise June 9, 2016

Fifth Harmony doing a DC medley? No thanks, plz Keep it! I do NOT want to hear Chipmunkmilla screeching all over those R&B classics! BYE!

    • ???????Chile, take this “Itty Bitty Piggy” to the market and make sure you hold her hand while crossing the street!??????? June 9, 2016

      “Never lying…truth teller”

      – Rih

      • Annalise June 10, 2016

U betta SANG that song chileee! Yeah YEH YEH, so hardTTT!! ??

  3. Dev June 9, 2016

5th Harmony doing Destiny’s Child! Oh how the mighty have fallen.

  4. Annalise June 9, 2016

Ashly has a very strange energy about her. Something’s off about her but I can’t put my finger on it. Even in this picture she’s the only one not smiling. I know she’s been through a lot in her life. Reminds me abit of Dawn’s strange presence in Danity Kane.

    • Nahh June 9, 2016

I feel you. Ashley is the core of th group tho she’s like the Beyoncé (vocally) she brings in the belts and warmth. And I think it’s maybe because Ashley Older than the other girls, her personality may not be as young and t*** friendly as the others. She’s nice on the show tho

      • Annalise June 9, 2016

Ashly SANGS like a church MUVA on easter sunday! That girl is totally on another level to the other girls vocally. I think she has quite a motherly instinct to them, and she’s very focused. Perhaps I’m reading into it a bit too much. Her aura is very different to rest of them, and I could see her working better solo.

    • FAF June 9, 2016

She probably wants to stand out she gave off that beyonce vibe even in richgirl

      • Annalise June 9, 2016

That’s Lyndriette (Kristal) you’re talking about that was in Richgirl. I actually really like her. She was being assertive a few episodes ago but I think she was coming from a good place.

    • taqui arandi June 9, 2016

Ashly wears the murder of her mother at a young age on her sleeve… I think is a god-send that she is working with Kelly who recently lost her mother as well and can share that sisterhood and maternal bond… I also remember Ashly getting promised alot and then shun by the industry multiple times on her twitter over the years….. Both her and Dawn share a common humbled tragic story that molded their drive and Life on the line sacrificing attitude toward music & stardom…. They understand their gift and present it as more than a mean too be famous…. ITS CALLED BEING REAL

      • Danzou June 9, 2016

@taqui yes that’s exactly why these girls were ultimately chosen. They are anointed and you can hear it in the vocals. They deserve to be where they are especially ashly

    • Jay June 9, 2016

She is insecure and started a bunch of drama about Gabby and the other girl going to the studio without the rest of the group. She is scared that the younger ones will have more opportunities indiviually without that group. She knows she is old and does not have as much as time as the young girls. Those ones that already deals are clearly at their last desperate attempt at breaking through. Throughout history, it is nothing wrong with a group member going in to write/work on their vocals. I mean Babyface (The Deele), Lil Steve (Troop), Marques Houston (Immature), Kandi (xscape) and more. They were able to have hits for other artist by producing and writing. Where are their groupmates today? Still bashing them on the radio 20 yrs later trying to get back in. Kelly should listen and realize 5 girls are too much. Groups like thar rarely make it. People are itching for 5H to disband. We all see it coming. To me Gabby needs to go solo, and is the star. They can call her weird, and all..but the entire show was based around her. Kelly also got that white girl to build a group around her. When has all white girl groups worked in pop??? Never..Dixie Chicks were country and played instruments, and Dream signed to Badboy went ghost. These groups all have no unity. Look at their styling…they all have ulterior motives to go solo..

      • Jay June 9, 2016

I am speaking on the girl from Rich Girl.

      • Annalise June 10, 2016

Gabby the star? LOL Not when she has the weakest vocals out of the 5! Gabby is like the corny version of Aubrey, and I can guarantee you she will be the first one out. She will be the one that is out partying, doing things outside the group and playing up for the cameras. I’m not fooled for one second by her fake ‘shyness’ (which apparently disappeared when she was sticking her tongue down strangers throats in that video).
        ____

U remember what happened to Danity Kane when some of the girls started going to the studio on their own? Kristal has been in this position before and is offering the girls sound advice. There was definitely no foul play. She is far from insecure and is a grown ass woman!

    • Cornell June 9, 2016

I said to myself, she even sounds like Dawn when she sings…

      • Annalise June 10, 2016

YES! she has the purity and soul to her voice.

  5. Dev June 9, 2016

I’m looking forward to this, although they need to find a name soon before they’re known as Chasing Destiny.

    • Danny Bey June 10, 2016

I actually really like that name for them. The only thing that turns me off about it is the connection to “Destiny’s Child”….

  6. #JACKIE June 9, 2016

    Gabby and Ashley>
The rest of the girls sound the same.

    • taqui arandi June 9, 2016

Not quite only in tone but thats actually a great thing for the blend… Beyonce & Kelly sound alike as well but jusxaposed to Michelle voice… Thats how you built harmony… Shyann is clearly always the TOP of the Harmony… Kristal Blends incredibly with Shyann & Ashly… Brienna fills all over and usually sings melody… Ashly & Gabby both can hold down the bottom … That all play their parts well… and these 2 songs are just a taste and both had similiar styles

      • #JACKIE June 9, 2016

I understand but Bey, Kelly and Michelle had three different tones and textures and their blend was amazing. A lot of these girls IMO have the same tone and vocal style but maybe it’ll get better once they learn each other’s voices more.

      • Danzou June 9, 2016

Jackie I somewhat agree noooooooo shade but sometimes I catch myself asking who’s voice is who’s? The only two voices I can pick out so far are krystal and ashly. And sometimes shyann. Even tricky Stewart said it would be hard to harmonise them. They all have such strong voices.

      • GirlGroupFan June 10, 2016

Actually, Brienna and Kristal alternated the top harmony on the “Hotline Bling” cover. Shyann sang the melody with Kristal. I think Brienna might end up singing the top harmony most of the time.

  7. #justsayn June 9, 2016

BET need to allow them to perform on the BET Awards pre show!

    • MusicFan103 June 9, 2016

Why not the main stage since they are from a recent BET show, they should want them to success and should be able to give them 3-4 minutes on stage. Would be a great introduction to the world.

  8. DIABETIC STROKE June 9, 2016

Their group should def have a name BY NOW. its been atleast 4 months since the final cut. Their buzz cut was a bore, leftover courtesy of kelly lol. Since this group was designed to put money into kellys Narcissistic (spider infested) bank account i dub the name DESTINYS CRUSH! Or crash dummy.

    • Bobby June 9, 2016

U should go to the gym to loose some weight Instead of talking s*** about Kelly and her girl group coz hunny they will do well watch?

    • Danzou June 9, 2016

If you can read they said that there are legal issues around choosing a name. They could get sued if they don’t choose a good name. It’s all a process when you have actual artist development.

  9. DIABETIC STROKE June 9, 2016

Btw the 3 in the back have a interesting dynamic. Not neccasarily reminiscent of that of TLC or DC3 but still something there. If there is another cut (inivitable imo if not a flop) id get rid of 2 in the front. One looks annoying while the other too serious/dark. I also wonder if they will be dance orriented if they are recording “edgy pop/trap R&B. Vocally i find them boring but the MUSIC is whats most important above all, even looks.

    • Jay June 9, 2016

I agree! cheyenne and ashly look odd in the group. It should be the 3 in the back only!! One is too young and would fit better in 5H and the other is older and does not look right in the group period.

  10. Beau June 9, 2016

ITS ALRIGHT WAS JUST RELEASED ON THERE SOUNDCLOUD TODAY!!

  11. Beau June 9, 2016

    “It’s alright”

  12. MusicFan103 June 9, 2016

BET should allow them on their stage at the show. I wonder how soon before somebody leaves the group. It always happens sadly in girl groups. Will it be before album # 1, after it, will then end after album # 2 like PCD and Danity Kane?

  13. ???????Chile, take this “Itty Bitty Piggy” to the market and make sure you hold her hand while crossing the street!??????? June 9, 2016

I’m the finale episode, I cried and smiled when they got their checks handed to them. It’s so hard to come to the realization that you have to leave everything stable in your life (family, job, education, etc.) behind in attempt to chase a dream. That’s exactly why these girls MUST SUCCEED! Just imagine their first top 40 as an ALL-BLACK female group. Normani, you better go ahead and leave cause they’re coming and they won’t be easy on y’all.

    • LONDYN June 11, 2016

ever since they released these two songs and i watch fifth harmony videos I’m like damn they coming for y’all asses….Normani better go solo ! lol

  14. Tino June 9, 2016

I’m truly excited just by the song titles I can’t wait to here there body of work I been bumping all of us since it linked and I can’t get its alright out my head the more I listen the more it grows and if it serves anything I think a good name for the group would (The dreamers) lol well I guess not so a good one but a idea lol

  15. Danzou June 9, 2016

If their music sounds anything like electric red then im buying. Electric red was seriously underrated they deserved so much more.

    • Junior in Jamaica June 9, 2016

But they only had one real singer? All the songs I heard seemed to be carried by that one lead.

  16. Danzou June 9, 2016

I feel soooo sorry for 5H!!! I just listened to alright and I love these girls! Vocally driven pop/R&B bangers is my weakness! They’re singing all the music 5H should be singing! But see I said it once and I’ll say it again, WHITE people are in charge of 5H but black people are on charge of chasing destiny. Do yall see the difference? Lol I live for this!

  17. Danzou June 9, 2016

And don’t get me wrong I adore 5H. But THIS is the route their music SHOULD have taken! My only concern is that white people are not gonna buy their music which is sad because white people don’t support anything they can’t be a part of. Yall notice how there are no white people commenting on these posts about all black girl groups or like anything black culture related? They find it so hard to find anything positive to say or contribute when it comes to things outside of themselves and THAT’S why I’m afraid these girls will have trouble on the hot 100 charts. They’ll be fine on R&B/soul circuits though like kiss fm.

    • Jay June 9, 2016

White people are actually the biggest supporters of black girl groups. Do you honestly think if black people soley purchased the iconic girl groups music they would be selling out stadiums and more? White people sell more because they are the majority. Its common sense.

      The Supremes
      Destinys Child
      TLC

And more! They sold a lot of records. They had pop audiences. You cant name 5 successful all white girl pop girl groups can you? Did white folks support Bad Boy’s Dream group? Nope..Dixie Chicks dont count ..they were country. Even if white girls were in a group, labels have always been smart enough to throw in a black girl or too. Mel B (Spice Girls), Dawn (danity kane)…. And on the latino side with 5H you have the one token black girl. Black girl groups sell and crossover. White boyband sells..

      • Danzou June 9, 2016

If anything you just completely proved my point. Why did it take for WHITE people to support danity Kane tlc en vogue the supreme destiny’s child etc for them to be largely successful? WHY do white people HAVE to have their hand in everything? So I’ll reiterate my point: white people don’t really support things they can’t be a part of so HOPEFULLY these girls can get hot 100 rotation because if white people don’t like them then, as you just stated, they will not be as successful as they should be.

  18. TurkeyNoodleSavage June 9, 2016

Yesssss GOD I miss Electrik Red 🙁 can’t wait to see what these girls bring .

    • Danzou June 9, 2016

I miss them too. Very good vocal arrangements and overall chemistry. It’s good to see they’re working with tricky Stewart. He’s a genius.

  19. Danzou June 9, 2016

I really wanna see these girls on MTV.And VH1.I don’t want to see them get marginalised! Especially with all the power that Kelly has in her hands as far as the industry goes with connections and such. I was wondering when EDM was gonna die and it’s happening! God yes. R&B is making a return.

    • Anb June 9, 2016

Still gotta fight with Rap/trap music tho! I really hope they get full support!

      • Danzou June 9, 2016

Me too. R&b had to struggle against biggie and pac and nas and snoop etc back in the day so I’m not worried. They both lock into the culture as a whole so they’ll be syndicated on the same radio stations. My concern is that white label heads have steered the direction of music away from black culture to some type of trendy political movement for agendas and such. So like I really don’t know if they’ll get syndicated on top 40 radio like black artists used to be back in the day. If white people don’t like their music then they won’t be syndicated to hot 100 or top 40 radio. Sad but true.

  20. Danzou June 9, 2016

If they send it’s alright to urban radio then I could easily see it being a top 20 on the r&b charts.

  21. Pat June 9, 2016

They can actually sing!!! Sad to say but with this current black music climate that’s enough for me to buy their album

  22. G June 9, 2016

Ok SO let me put on my A&R Hat for a minute. So this is what the girls Need, 1st and foremost I feel a few images still need tampering, see Shyann and Ashly. I HATE that bob on shyann but loved when she had LONG blonde locks… maybe a Cute bang would work with ashly, and a few of the girls need to shed just a few more to get the overall aesthetic of a marketable group…say what you want about 5h but them gals serve body for the GAWDS. I would like them to be a little more s*** NOT trashy see Richgirl Swagger Right/He Aint With Me Now for reference…This is 2016 not 96 SKIN IS IN. Still Tasteful but s***. Musically I live in L.A and have a few people in the know who said the “L.A.N.C.E” joint which is an acronym for “Lying Ass N***** ..” is the ONE. i NEED EDGY…and we need to see some BOOM KHACKS cause sitting on stools like the finale AINT GONNA GET IT. The white girls known as 5h Has to pop cat, you are black girls so make sure you do it and DO IT BETTER. still in good taste tho. I like the music I just need a LITTLE more edge, A LITTLE more grown…and A LITTLE more swagg In the records. With a name like “L.A.N.CE” im sure that will give me what I ask for. LASTLY I want these girls on the MAIN STAGE not a pre show. Somebody pull strings for the BET AWARDS and make it happen! That will be their coronation to the world. Lastly i HATE THE NAME 1310…glad we scratched that been there done that (112,day 26,702) Lets think outside the box ladies this is YOUR NAME….”Phoenix Rising” “Phoenix” I dont know something just NO NUMBERS PLEASE

    • Danzou June 9, 2016

  26. Diggyy June 10, 2016
