Keyshia Cole‘s time at Interscope came to an end following the release of her Hip-Hop kissed set ‘Point of No Return.’

Since then, the gifted entertainer has vowed to continue her career as an independent artist and, before the release of her first label-less album, seems to have secured the support of the boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Press play to peep his short, telling and explicit conversation with his good friend Jason Lee below…

Though we respect Keyshia‘s decision to push for success away from the label system we think that her brand of radio friendly R&B may suffer away from it.

Contrary to many a misinformed stan, Cole’s time at Interscope saw her soar as one of its highest-selling artists and, believe it or not, often saw her albums move more units in their opening weeks than sets launched by Rihanna.

With this in mind, we feel Cole may be making a serious mistake by stepping away from the resources record labels come equipped with.

This is why we have been hoping she would find a home in SME’s Columbia.

Home to John Legend, Adele and Beyonce, the label’s handling of credible Adult Contemporary acts like Cole is impeccable.

Here’s hoping Keyshia makes the right decision in the coming months.

Be careful Keisha, nothing is done for free!

it’s hard for me to believe that she would think that there isn’t some invisible strings attach.i really doubt she thinks this is for free and Mayweather just like her music and style.

Keyshia, your problem is with Interscope not all labels. Tgj is right. She should accept a decent offer from Columbia and build from there. Look at how they saved Johns all of me era! Stans make jokes but Keyshia was built to be a mega seller but the mess in her personal life (which is beyond her control) has clearly forced her into placing everyone around her before herself. Floyd may have cash but what’s the cost of him giving this money to you?

Her label helped craft her hits and make her the star she is today because the more and more creative control she has been granted per album the more and more of a drop in quality and sales has happened. If she’s going independent, I hope she still has a good team because I don’t think her ear is really all that musical.

No smh. This is just a big mess. I can not believe this. If you need funding then why not seek another record label. This time, have your team and Lawyers with you so you’re making the right deal. No disrespect to Floyd but he just starting this music thing out. A woman of Keyshias caliber should not be working out deals with him. He’s starting from the bottom and Keyshia Cole has been there and done that. I dont think she’s thinking clearly. She act so regular smh..

  7. What Now July 12, 2016

SMH. Get it together KC and make a sequel to your first album.

  8. Bitchpleaseeee July 12, 2016

I still have no idea what Keyshia Cole is doing these days ??

  9. Truth July 12, 2016

He must be hittin’ it. No man is going to finance a woman this way without getting some kind of fringe benefit.

Contrary to what some idiots around here post, indie is NOT the way to go (unless it’s with major label distribution.) Every established artist should be backed by a real record label. Trying to be a pop star AND your own manager/label head is too many hats. If this set up is the best Keyshia can do professionally at this point, then she might as well retire.

everyone actin like she has choices! columbia probably doesnt wanna sign her cos shes too much of a risk… her last few albums didnt sell very well and that all contributes to a labels decision to sign an established artist…. i agree that she needs a major label and right songs to get things poppin again but its not goin to happen. poor keyshia cant foresee the inevitable failure down this road cos she too far in it…. and then all that s*** in her personal life… mayweather is a bad move, please dont do it girl. she needs to step back with someone ON THE OUTSIDE and seriously evaluate her situation…

Mayweather shouldn’t waste his money. He should invest in the Queen Bee Lil’ Kim instead.

KC has an excellent catalogue, enough to keep her touring, her shows are always full. She has a list of hits. Point of No Return did not work for her, it was actually a decent album. Love letter feat Future should have been the main single to promote it, instead they rushed videos and released too many promo/singles.
KC needs to stop talking on social media, artists talk way too much these days, it gets messy, the audience and the fans get tired of reckless behaviors, it’s fun for 5 min but gets boring. They try to hard to be s*** thinking s** will boost sales but it does not, KC is a singer not a performer, she forgot her core audience wanting to be like others. Trust & Believe worked because it’s a song people can truly relate to, it had a great visual support. I agree, KC should do a sequel to her first album, sign with a major. Not all artists can be indies, Ashanti took years to release Braveheart, without the backup it never fares well.

I think she just needs to find the right label. I mean sista girl was doing it years back and not she’s decided to distance herself from record labels. She obviuosly doesn’t have a strong manager representing her. Or she’s the singer and the manager.

    Good luck Keyshia
