Freshly Squeezed: Introducing… MAAD

Published: Friday 15th Jul 2016 by Sam

“Dynamite” is what many have deemed newcomer MAAD. Could she be next to blow?

We, here at That Grape Juice, wholly feel so.

In a sea of sameness, the New York bred beauty stands out from the pack. Powerfully.

It’s not just her statuesque aesthetic, but her narrative too.

Her ascend began in the world of modelling and to-date she has featured in publications such as ELLE and NYLON, while also fronting campaigns for the likes of Seventeen and Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Music, however, has always been the budding diva’s divine calling.

Indeed, when not spinning hits as one of NYC’s most sought-after DJ’s, the rising star logs in studio time with the likes of Claude Kelly, Jonas Jeberg, and The Vamp – the latter of who produced her infectious new single ‘Black Ice.’

The deliciously seductive cut has been garnering plenty of play around TGJ HQ over the last few weeks, but it’s its video that has our jaws ajar.

Directed by Creative Destruction, the visual sees MAAD sassily state her claim for superstardom…with an exclamation mark.

She slips, slides, and grinds with seasoned precision and pulls from her modelling skill set to ensure almost every frame is an editorial in itself.

With too many artists chasing the minimalist trend, this young lady re-affirms the importance of performance art. And we’re oh so sold on what she’s selling – as there’s not enough of it permeating the music landscape.

Both retro and refreshing.

MAAD’s EP ‘‘Lé Funk’ lands in September.

Until then, hit PLAY on ‘Black Ice’ above…

Too many new artists saturating the industry. Not to mention they all look and sound the same

    • da realest July 15, 2016

Well you just have to get use to it. By the year 2020 an artist won’t longer need a record deal because the power of the internet, so you will see artists saturated from every where get ready.

I wanted to like this video, always down for something new and fresh to my music playlist but she just doesn’t have that fire in her eyes, she doesn’t look like that hungry artist ready to give you all she’s got, she didn’t even look like she wanted to be in the video, reminds me of a girl that just having s** to pay the rent; rather than a girl having s** with her boyfriend/husband who just happens to pay the rent. Hope she comes harder or hungrier in her next video, otherwise this is just a video that I’ve seen done better by hundreds of other artist and a song that’s not bad, it’s just okay

No No Nope… The opening scene with the styling looks like something did Rihanna circa 2011, and those are the exact same boots as the green thigh highs Rih wore. In addition, to her Kelly Rowland Motivation complete set, I see her doing her Beyonce-hip-pop-line dance that Fifth Harmony stole. When will these girls get some originality? When will they try to create something for themselves? Exactly who again is this girl…

The song is ok , but is it me or she sounds like Keri Hilson ?

  8. jec2 July 15, 2016

I tried working with her. There is a deadness behind her eyes. Style over substance, but she is a really sweet girl. Wish her the best.

I think she’s on the right track….sound and vibe is different enought to not get lost…. lil bit more unique choreo and i can c it for her possibly

  10. eric July 15, 2016

I love the 80s pop and funk vibe in the song. The visuals, however, are not very flattering. There seems to be a major competition among female artists as to who can be the sexiest. When s** is everywhere like it is now, you have to start selling something more original to stand apart.

she definitely has potential i think she’s pretty dope….

It feels empty. But it serves its purpose

Most of y’all are being bitter. If this was your fave, you would be praising it. Or if this sell 10 million, you clowns would hop aboard bc at the end, you guys stan for sales. This is a great time for music and for artist to get noticed that’s not pushed by the machine. I seen poorer, cheaper videos and worse songs from major artist.

    • #JACKIE July 15, 2016

      Please shut up faaaag.

Yasssss, this is exactly what I want to hear. This is siiiick. I was actually hoping Britney’s make me was going to sound more like this. I am loving this chick and the song. Well done TGJ.

Her look is way too much for me. The song I can get on board with. It has a freshness to it…
For a first effort though, it’s pretty solid.
Her team has to sit around the table again and think a few things over. Let’s see whats next..
