Jay Z Releases New Song In Response To Killings Of Alton Sterling & Philando Castile

jayz-alton-sterling

In the wake of the unjust deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile this week, Jay-Z has broken his silence on the matter. The rapping mogul addressed the ongoing issue of police brutality in new song ‘Spiritual’.

Listen below…

Available to subscribers and non-subscribers on Tidal, the thoughtful release was accompanied with a personal statement from the NYC native. He uses the cut to expresses his take on the injustice endured by many African American’s today.

Carter’s first solo release since 2013’s ‘Magna Carta’, the newly surfaced track coincides with similar statements made by wife Beyonce. The songstress projected all the names of those who’ve lost their lives to police brutality at her Glasgow show last night.

With the discrimination many African American’s in the US face today, Jay and Bey do well at promoting togetherness in times certainly lacking.

Glad he is speaking up, Jay Z has spoken up about police brutality before social media brought many of these issues to light. Glad he hasn’t forgotten the struggle, good on you Jay.

I don’t understand how People say things like BEYONCE joined the Black lives movement to make more money or to sell more albums, let me tell u this, majority of Beyonce fans are none blacks, Just yesterday she lost 200,000 k instagram followers just bcos she posted the black lives matter message, it took her previous album a shorter time to go two times platinum worldwide, if anything she sacrificed more sales and risk of loosing some fans to support this cause not to mention money, do u know the number of white conservative fans she’s lost so far, and do u seriously think If Beyonce’s New Album was themed around something more irrelevant and sexual like Rihannas anti it wouldn’t be selling even twice as more, so tell me, how is this really benefiting her she’s rather using The platform BEYONCE to announce the social injustice rather than the Social injustice to announce Her, given her Sales history u think if she released Any kind of album with a totally different message it still wouldn’t swell millions? I hate to make this comparison but if someone like Ciara or Keri Hilson released the exact same songs on lemonade it will not even sell pass 50k worldwide … do don’t be a heater, “if you don’t have any interest in equality for black people do not make suggestions for those who do, sit down “

    • July 8, 2016

some people are just stupid and full of hate, if these mega stars do something they get sh!t on, and get dragged of them trying to sell something are is donig it for attention, if they don’t then it’s doesn’t matter they gets dragged just the same for not doing anything, they can’t win no matter what, even if some accept what they are doing they still come a round and claim they haven’t done enough.and alot of these people who is talking cr@p haven’t done sh!t not even simple as tweeting the hashtag black lives matter. alot of them are just some trolls trying to cost trouble.

    • OMG Logic!!! July 8, 2016

This might be a difficult concept for you to grasp, but Instagram followers do not equate to album or even single sales. Crazy huh!?

  7. Mark111 July 8, 2016

To all artists. No one wants to hear your crappy music at a time like this.

    • Avi July 8, 2016

To sad, effeminate gay trolls named “Mark111″… no one wants to read your crappy comments at a time like this.

    • BEY>RIH July 8, 2016

That includes Rihanna who hasn’t brung any type of awareness to black lives. She is too busy worrying about topping the irrelevant hot 100.

  8. fatusankoh July 8, 2016

Says you said it all thanks please my fellow fans let’s continue to love and support our bey she stood for right and the haters want to down her

  9. eric July 8, 2016

Another nice distraction from the brutality and killings that occur at our own hands every day within our community. Black lives should matter ALL the time, not just some of the time, but I guess it would hurt too many pockets if blacks stopped consuming music from Jay-Z and other artists whose careers hinge on young black men being at odds with each other and chasing after pseudo-wealth, power and status rather than a good education. #truthhurts

    • Casual-T July 8, 2016

Very well put. The recent events are disturbing and must be fought against, but we have to be careful of buying into and mislead by narratives. I see our black communities, and our nation in general, descending into chaos.

      • Hives still scared of R8 July 8, 2016

Don’t waste your time.Blacks will dip and dodge this issue like it’s not a reality. There first excuse “Whites kill whites”.It’s almost a trend for blacks to shoot each other and brag about it.

  10. Kitty Puurrzz July 8, 2016

I’m all for this movement … But, where were these same rappers when 50 gays were gunned down? I didn’t see this much hip hop response. Just curious.

    • well well July 8, 2016

      ehh?!?
      .
      a rappers image is like h*es. why’d they care about f*ggots and b*tches that don’t want d*ck?!?
      .
does that make any damn sense?!? 😉 😀
      .
      seriously. wtf.

    • Biting Truth July 8, 2016

Go somewhere with that gay agenda BS. These same rappers were minding their business when that happened and weren’t trying to be fake by exploiting something that wasn’t their business.

      • Linear July 8, 2016

Bottom line. What happened in Orlando wasn’t of any concern to the Hip Hop community. Let Gaga and the like cry with them over that. This right here is an issue that concerns black folks, so it makes sense that rappers and other artists of color would say something.

      • OMG Logic!!! July 8, 2016

Oh I see. Then BlackLivesMatter shouldn’t expect me to give a s*** about two random people.

      • Avi July 8, 2016

Sweetheart, no one cares if you don’t. You’re not special. The BLM movement will be fine without your concern or support. But notice how you didn’t see black folks trying to hone in on the Orlando thing, yet predictably some gay person has to try and pry into this and try and shift the conversation back around to them. You go to your corner and cry with your group over your own drama and we’ll do the same.

    • Tori July 8, 2016

They’re probably all Christians and don’t agree with the LGBT lifestyle but have their own secrets so they don’t judge the LGBT community.

      • OMG Logic!!! July 8, 2016

Lifestyle? Are interracial relationships a “lifestyle?”

    • Walker July 8, 2016

Are you serious with this question?

    • Infinitt July 8, 2016

Stop being disingenuous. You know that there is no emotional connection between hip hop and the gay community. I don’t expect any gay artists to comment on these shootings of black men either, nor do I need them to. Everyone needs to take care of their own. Jay-Z and company can remark on these tragedies, while people like Sam Smith and Frank Ocean can rally for gay issues.

      • BEY>RIH July 8, 2016

Frank Ocean should rally for both…

  11. EvilEye July 8, 2016

Gays just need to be the center of attention all the time. They’re probably seething at these latest headlines taking press away from their precious Orlando story.

    • OMG Logic!!! July 8, 2016

Disgusting comments like this one are why I will never take BlackLivesMatter seriously.

  12. jlove July 8, 2016

    jlo #2 us itune yaaaa

  13. Danzou July 8, 2016

I knew yall was gon bring up the whole Orlando thing. Yall know good and well that black people as a whole DO NOT like gay people. These rappers would lose their whole fan base for defending Orlando, so pay it.

    • OMG Logic!!! July 8, 2016

Maybe they should grow a pair and stand up for what’s right. If enough White people hadn’t stood up for what was right, who knows how long it would have taken to abolish slavery.

  14. D July 8, 2016

The only thing that making me is that all these celebrities say and post black lives matter. But have all these connections I’m sure with jayz power diddy power jorden power they can make a change. Nothing isnt going to be done just by yelling and screaming black lives matter.

  15. OMG Logic!!! July 8, 2016

The majority of the 49 dead in Orlando last month were people of color, yet no rapper made a song about it. I didn’t see BlackLivesMatter crying about it. Does that mean that Black lives only matter when they can be used to demonize white people? I don’t know…

Also, how classless of this site to continue to bank on the death of those two men while completely ignoring the 5 police officers killed at the protest last night.

    • BEY>RIH July 8, 2016

Although it was a wrong action, the police force constantly take away our innocent lives….. Karma is a b****. May those officers r.i.p.
      #blacklivesmatter

      • OMG Logic!!! July 8, 2016

Karma? What did 5 innocent police officers, doing their job protecting everyone including the BLM protestors, do to deserve being sniped down like that?

      • Danzou July 9, 2016

lol all these victims were innocent to soooooooooooooooooo
