The Predictions Are In: Fantasia’s ‘The Definition Of’ Set To Sell…

With the summer upon us, Fantasia brings the heat with her scorching new album ‘The Definition Of…’

Released yesterday, the set serves as the American Idol alum’s fifth studio effort and follows 2013’s ‘Side Effects Of You.’

Wondering what the star’s slick mix is projected to sell first week? Well, wonder no more because the answer awaits after the jump…

According to Hits Daily Double, the Ron Fair produced project is on course to open with first week (pure) sales of 28,000-32,000. The estimate rises to 29,000-34,000 when factoring in the sales-plus-streaming measurement.

With the week’s only new competition coming courtesy of DJ Khaled (67k-72k SPS) and Jake Owen (35k-40k SPS), Tasia should be looking at a top 10 placement. Even when factoring in the usual suspects that make up the tally each week (Drake, Beyonce).

*************

Though not the loftiest number, the figure places the critically praised LP on par with the commercial debuts of most R&B releases over the last year.

Though we’re still ascertaining where ‘The Definition’ ranks on our list of Fantasia releases, we feel it a fine addition to a discography that will no doubt be appreciated as the years progress.

Hopefully, it’s gifted a lengthy promotional run.

?! Did this bitxh just dethrone Cici for biggest flop???

    • King Keem July 30, 2016

No one could ever dethrone that ?????

      • maurice July 30, 2016

Tyga’s last album did 2k first week.

      • Jluv July 30, 2016

        Exactly ???

    • Truth(honey Adel is a has been like nicki) July 31, 2016

      19k

    • Caleb July 31, 2016

Nope, she did not. CiCi wishes she could sell 30,000 in the first week in 2016.

  2. #justsayn July 30, 2016

    Danm… I like Fantasia

  3. Mezzy July 30, 2016

It’s sad that R&B albums aren’t selling like they used to. So many dope R&B albums out there that don’t get the recognition they deserved. Really hope the sells continue for Fantasia’s album.

    • Mezzy July 30, 2016

      deserve*
      sales*
I flopped with those damn typos lol

    • Truth July 31, 2016

      Chile, NO cds are selln

  4. Mark111 /.\ July 30, 2016

Streams are so cheap according to the pest, she should be streaming more than 10K, right? Oh ok. Still sold more than Jackie. lol

    • HailLegendBeysus July 30, 2016

The Hive just lives on yo mind. Kiii how sad. Is Luhkas still not streaming? Poordat well i guess JILL (✋) can keep you company ?!

      • King B July 31, 2016

Remember someone said that he doesn’t want to hear artist can’t sell album anymore? Ahhhhh, thank God my fellow BeyHive never said such thing. And we are not against streaming when DrIL peaked number 2 thanks to stream, but it’s the Navy that laugh at DrIL outpeaked FFS because of streams. Rih is the last artist that should have more streams compare to sales. I meant, she has 14 number ones right? The Global Superstar, The Black Madonna, Biggest Selling etc. Who would’ve thought her life depends of FREE STREAMS.

      • HailLegendBeysus July 31, 2016

Kiii that was me. I have the Nov receipts too lmao!

    • Barb B**** July 30, 2016

Oh my oh my how times have changed. You were the same one dragging TPP for streams this time last year asking how much it has actually ‘sold’. Has the ship sunk that low?

      • HailLegendBeysus July 30, 2016

        BLOOP!!!

  5. Dev July 30, 2016

I don’t understand how the numbers work. Its released Friday and the sales are released Sat or Sunday, what happened to a sales week?

    • MUSICHEAD July 30, 2016

It’s a formula the industry has used for decades. The first day of sales usually determine how many copies the album will sell over the entire week. The first day is usually the strongest day so forecasting the rest of the week is easier from there.

      • Dev July 31, 2016

        Thanks.

      • JOHNVIDAL July 31, 2016

It also over hypes certain albums as people start to hear it is selling a lot and follow like ship. And also, predictions kill some albums. Latest case of huge over hype throughout the week with constant new predictions that I remember was Justin Timberlake´s 20/20.

      • JOHNVIDAL July 31, 2016

        *like sheep

  6. Pat July 30, 2016

I called it. R&b is dead. I accepted it a lil while ago. Dj khaled didnt do 100k n he has the “elite” on his cd n screaming about it n stadiums everywhere. Streaming is taking over.

    • Truth July 31, 2016

Biitch no cd is really selln. Only ppl like Beyonce gets big numbers. I hate u

  7. Kehlani Tsunami July 30, 2016

She still outsold jackie. Jackie only has sold over 40K since last year.

    • Vidiii July 30, 2016

Wrong Jackie sold at August 2015, 65.000 copies.. And it should be now at 85.000 copies..
Do first research first before you comment.. 🙂

      • Janyoncé Turner July 30, 2016

And that’s it??? What a phukkin’ flop!!! Poor Ciara.

      • Kehlani Tsunami July 30, 2016

        I TRICKED YOU DUMB B*TCH! KIII YOU 65K H**

      • Jj July 30, 2016

Please stop, it did not even hit 50K

      • Caleb July 31, 2016

Where did those magic 20,000 additional sales come from Cus you know damn sure no one has bought that many since then.

  8. RealNegro July 30, 2016

Yep R&B is dead. Which is why Beyonce and Rihanna don’t make typical R&B music.

    • Tori July 30, 2016

You must haven’t heard the album…this typical R&b either, Beyonce and Rihanna are have more mainstream success and fans are much younger that stream album. Fantasia fans are quite older and most likely don’t buy or stream but pack out her shows, that’s where 70℅ of her income comes from. And the fact that ppl are not enjoying the album plays a part in others ppl purchase, ppl don’t buy your music if your own fans don’t enjoy it.

      • RealNegro July 30, 2016

You are right. I haven’t heard the album in full, but the songs that she released didn’t make me want to buy the album either. I don’t know how I feel about her direction. I can definitely see her label either taken control of her next release or dropping her all together. I hate that I brought Beyonce and Rihanna into this because that’s all that people take about on here so I’ll just agree that they have younger fanbases.

      • Truth July 31, 2016

Ho aint no one gonna drop her. U a ho who is a qween. U little sissy. The cd is great. Even Maxwell only sold 50k honey

    • Rey July 31, 2016

Totally agree about the singles but the rest of the album is FIRE! Whoever decided on the singles missed a great opportunity to market some really GOOD music!

  9. Terny July 30, 2016

Damn… It was released just yesterday & already predictions r in? Uhn uhn…

    • JOHNVIDAL July 31, 2016

I hate predictions. They kill albums and also over hype other albums as the week goes by.

  10. Timago July 30, 2016

    Flop

    • Truth July 31, 2016

      Yo mom

  11. Brotha1461 July 30, 2016

Don’t worry she will work this cd until it dies.and if anyone can she can.

  12. J-Mar July 30, 2016

I don’t understand how they have prediction sales already and the album just got release yesterday I’m sure her sales will rise real fast on charts.

  13. Keegan Parker July 30, 2016

    K.MICHELLE IS QUEEN

    • Sam July 30, 2016

      The devil is a liar!

    • True Lambily July 30, 2016

Fantasia’s 1st week sales on her 1st album = K Michelle career) Fantasia has a Platinum (Free Yourself) and Gold album (Fantasia) (damn near 2 gold albums see sales for “Back To Me” under her belt… something K will never ever have Fantasia has a Grammy where K Grammy nomination?? Fantasia had numerous #1 singles where K’s?? K is the queen of thots that’s bout it Fantasia dropped ball with this one I agree but k for damn sure ain’t better then her in no way!!

    • wrosy3 July 31, 2016

K Michelle is on a low budget reality show how is she queen girl bye mama dee have more of a singing career than K Michele right now people need to stop throwing out the word queen to any and everybody

  14. Barb B**** July 30, 2016

Flop but who is surprised. It’s better than #460

    • Truth(honey Adel is a has been like nicki) July 31, 2016

Chile i just KNOW a barb aint talkn!! Hahaha!!!

  15. Casual July 30, 2016

I wasn’t far off. I predicted 35k due to the lack of a hit single preceding the project.
    .
I hope she gets mileage out of this album, but albums that open poorly don’t seem to improve anymore, mainly b/c people no longer have to risk buying albums without hearing them first. We live in an era of instant verdicts. The album is decent, and I think there is a smash on it that hasn’t been promoted yet, so here’s hoping.

  16. Theman July 30, 2016

It isn’t about Rihanna/Beyonce fans. It’s about lack of promo. She doesn’t have a hit on urban radio. Urban radio is not playing r&b music and it’s awful. So no hit equals meager sales. Hopefully, she’ll keep promoting her project. They just don’t care to promote r&b the way that they used to. You only hear real r&b music on urban ac.

  17. True Lambily July 30, 2016

If these numbers are true i knew it I KNEW IT!!! FANTASIA KNOWS A LOT OF HER FANS WAS NOT FEELING THAT BS I mean really she could have went harder but dint IM SO THANKFUL FOR YOUTUBE BC I LISTENED TO THAT ALBUM & IT IS GARBAGE COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS WORK SHE SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO LET THE LABEL CHOOSE HER MUSIC FROM NOW ON!! IDGAF IF IT DOES MAKE HER FEEL LIKE SHE ISN’T A ARTIST..SHE ISN’T A ARTIST I WILL SUPPORT IN THE FUTURE WITH MY COIN IF SHE KEEPS THIS S*** UP!! THE DEFINITION OF=SUCKS

    • Truth(honey Adel is a has been like nicki) July 31, 2016

      Eat me

    • Truth(honey Adel is a has been like nicki) July 31, 2016

Real simple ppl, she sould have lead with When I Met You THEN SWTOIL

    • Terny July 31, 2016

Tru lamby.. It’s not THAT bad?.. Lol? my only complaint is it’s tracks aren’t enough..

  18. MUSICHEAD July 30, 2016

I haven’t heard the album mainly because I’ve been disappointed with the singles so far. If Fantasia had released a radio friendly song, she would have sold closer to 100,000. There really is no mainstream outlet for r&b music anymore so I guess I understand why she said f*** radio and did it her way. Still disappointing tho.

  19. CherylSoldierr July 30, 2016

Ki Keri would do like 4K with streams

    • Keri Qween July 30, 2016

Lies you tell ugly she will sell more than that

But keri and fantasia are r&b which is in a poor state in general

Why did Only Human sell 20k first week tho??

      • Ayyseify July 30, 2016

        Clock it boo!

      • King B July 31, 2016

LMAO. I love her comment. At least Cheryl has UK to cling to. But Keri? Even the US don’t use her. She’s lucky to open with 20k in which I think 95% streams 3% track sales and the rest (2%) pure sales.

    • stardom July 31, 2016

Why cheeyl so darn wicked? You just refuse to let Keri queen breathe.

    • ontherun July 31, 2016

neither you or your fav- cherry coke are doing anything with your lives I see

  20. Mary Slay Blige July 30, 2016

This album doesn’t suck at all. Her last album sold 90K first week and she didn’t have a hit on the radio. Fantasia will be OK. She is far above and beyond most of her contemporaries in terms of talent, and people definitely pay to see her live. Truth be told, most of her “fans” wouldn’t have purchased the album anyway. R&B fans are the WORST.

  21. Stephy July 30, 2016

Her new album is flat, boring, flavorless & forgettable. I literally, sat back, closed my eyes & legit gave it a fair chance… Nothing stuck to me, at all. Musically, these R&B singers are boring & uninspiring as f*** in the studio. Live, oh these heifers can blow their faces off but studio wise, chile… They hella boring. Same thing with Kelly Price, Keke Wyatts, Ledisi, Jennifer Hudson etc…etc… They all have excellent voices but don’t have a clue as to how to craft classic studio recordings.
    ————————
These numbers don’t surprise me (I mean everybody flops today, literally). Glad I didn’t waste my money on this forgettable mess tho. Shoot, Maxwell pissed me off a few weeks ago. Won’t happen again. Fantasia is a flop, period. But, she’ll tare it up during her lil soul train constitution hall (flop) tour. And, that’s just me keeping it real. Goodluck Fanny.

    • MooMooCarey July 30, 2016

Coming from someone who stanned for anti

      • Stephy July 30, 2016

Musically, ANTI is a good POP record. Fall back & sit down

    • JOHNVIDAL July 31, 2016

      Stephy
Sorry but everything about Rihanna is flat. I don´t know where this idea a few of her fans have that her albums are good pop comes from but it´s not true. Not only she is talentless herself (she doesn´t contribute to the making of those albums, and she cannot sing or perform) but her albums are basic. Beyonce never had amazing catalogue (except for Crazy in Love and a few more songs), but with these 2 or 3 last albums she has killed any album/era the team of Rihanna has cooked for her. Rihanna´s albums are a bunch of singles put together, and not very good, classic or timeless. Far from it. Maybe they were going in a better direction last year, but it flopped hard from teh start so they cacelled it, she couldn´t even release it cause nobody takes “Rihanna is quality” seriously.

    • Truth July 31, 2016

Comn for a moomoo stan. Chile pls. Ur fav is a flop who caint even sell…puussyy!?

      • Truth July 31, 2016

        ‘from’

  22. Kitty Puurrzz July 30, 2016

This album isn’t what i wanted from Fanny… No shade.

  23. ow Reddish tran ivy blokz Need UK timely Ukuyikiji July 30, 2016

    Nice

  24. Kyle July 31, 2016

I love this album! I like how she is taking her idea of “rock soul” and making it her own sound. It’s edgy and there a quite a few uplifting songs on this album. Sadly, R&B is SO COMMERCIALLY DEAD it’s not even funny. Those numbers don’t really surprise me; it’ll at least get her a top 10 debut hopefully. I’m still trying to get over how poorly Maxwell’s album has been doing, especially because I thought people were hyping his comeback! The struggle is real out there these days.

    • Josh August 1, 2016

The industry is different. Artists nowadays are going platinum based on streaming and not record sells anymore. But who said that is how much Fantasia’s album would sell in the first week? Those are predictions. Fantasia could surprise ppl and sell more than that.

  25. Danzou July 31, 2016

Collard greens and cornbread is one of my favorites from her so I’ll give the album a chance.

  26. Danzou July 31, 2016

I blame white people for the demise of rnb. It’s so clear what they’re doing to black artists and our culture.

    • Steven Michael July 31, 2016

This is the most blatantly ignorant and racist comment, how you gonna blame white folks?? … the album just sucks period!

      • Truth July 31, 2016

Biitch the cd is great. Promotion sucked

      • Ann August 3, 2016

The heads of record labels who are white who control the music and how it structured in terms of radio, streams video etc are all white. Radio stations are forced to play rap songs which they know weeds blk rnb artist out! Then in comes all the white soul/pop artists, who most don’t sell that much either but get major AirPlay/streams!

  27. Truth(honey Adel is a has been like nicki) July 31, 2016

Real simple ppl, she sould have lead with When I Met You THEN SWTOIL. Ur welcome. ?

    • JustForTheMoney July 31, 2016

Honestly, I am one of the biggest Fantasia fans and I own every album she’s released, and they are all good……………except this last one. I honestly don’t see (or hear) what’s so “different” on this album that she keeps speaking of. Like Rock Soul would sound great on her, but this album has nothing to do with rock, nor soul. My complaint is that the album is just not good no matter the genre. Honestly, the only song I can even get into is her country song”Ugly”.

      • True Lambily July 31, 2016

I’m so glad I’m seeing another fan of Fantasia come forth and say her new album sucks bc it really does RCA NEEDS to either be in control of her next album or shelf her for a lil while she bragging bout it being #1 on itunes R&b but let’s see where it comes in next week when it makes it place on Billboard….Uggggh I’m so disappointed in her she could have done way better

  28. King B July 31, 2016

The Navy and sadly Stephy hypes Rihanna’s album so much. I bought three Rih albums and I listened to it for only maximum two days and even the critically acclaimed RR.She’s a good singles artist but def not an album artist like Bey. Same goes to Katy. There’s a reason why Xtina, Britney albums flopped. They are terrible album artist, the only album I used is their GH albums.

    • #JACKIE July 31, 2016

I can say the same thing about Beyonces albums. I listened to them for maybe a week then tossed them. I listened to Self Titled for a day and Lemonade for however long the album is.

      • JustForTheMoney July 31, 2016

@Jackie Did you say “for however long the album is”?lol

  29. Lake Erie July 31, 2016

Yup, R&B really is dead.. smh. I still support though idc.. Hopefully this inspire more artist to tour. It seem like that’s where the money is being made anyways for many. . BUT I listened to the album though and it’s not her strongest or her best.. Nothing LEAD single worthy caught my attention. ..

  30. #JACKIE July 31, 2016

Not pressed b****** mentioning Ciara in a Fantasia post. Y’all miserable høes need some dičk.

    • Truth July 31, 2016

    • Truth July 31, 2016

    • Lake Erie July 31, 2016

They stay pressed over the Queen. It’s pathetic.

      • #JACKIE July 31, 2016

Sis they are so jealous of her it’s crazy.

  31. Kyle July 31, 2016

I don’t think the statement “R&B is dead” is really valid. I think 2016 has been an AMAZING year for R&B music. We’ve gotten solid albums from Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild, Tweet, Chrisette Michele, SWV, Maxwell, KMichelle, and the list goes on. These artists just don’t fit into the mainstream the way they used to. I just appreciate the fact that they’re still delivering great albums. At the end of the day, nobody is really selling albums anymore!

    • Lake Erie July 31, 2016

Yea, you right nobody is really selling albums anymore but R&B is at the bottom of the ranks and that’s a fact. Yes, RICH albums have been delivered so far in 2016 but again like many people have said on this blog: You can have the BEST body of work in the world but if nobody has heard it or bought it then. ……. it isn’t so alive after all.. Yet those other genres of music gets commercial out the ass. I also think on another aspect of saying “r&b is dead”, isn’t solely relating to sells. I think it also has to do with it not really being heard as much also… and lets keep it real. We ALL know the stations who aren’t playing r&b music. …

  32. Brotha1461 July 31, 2016

No matter how bad the cd is they will still come out to Her concerts ,she is one of the best.

    • True Lambily July 31, 2016

I sure will go see her on tour she is phenomenal cant wait till it kicks off in January

  33. B August 1, 2016

I have been listening to this album since it came out and I think it’s amazing. It’s sad that record labels don’t promote R&B anymore because there is a lot of really great stuff that’s being ignored. However, what’s worse is some of the people commenting and making fun of her for selling this amount. Like what are you doing with your life that’s so special? These artists are doing great work but are not being played on the radio, are not getting actual budgets for videos, and no one even knows they have albums coming out but yet you all want to call them flops. I’d love to see what every person that used the word flop does for a living because it’s easy sit behind a computer and laugh at some one else when no one knows who you are. It’s just petty and it only makes the situation worse.
