Following Rihanna’s departure from the label, Def Jam undoubtedly turned to Frank Ocean to lead the way for its promising yet commercially unfulfilled roster.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t long before he followed in the ‘ANTI’ purveyor’s footsteps and kicked the company to the curb.

Why?

A report on his feud with the label and its staff members below…

A source close to Ocean and the label caught up with ‘The Associated Press’ to shed light on his decision to cut ties with the company.

Said source claims that their relationship was akin to a “bad marriage” giving the label no choice but to allow him to part ways with them before his contract was due to be completed.

He didn’t want to be on a label. He wanted to do his own thing.

Why the follow-up to his debut set ‘Channel Orange‘ took as long as it did to be released?

Billboard reports:

While fans were antsy, behind the scenes, the relationship between the label and Ocean got fractious — so much so both parties decided that Ocean’s next album would be his last, according to the person.

“I’m sure there was some kind of negotiation in order for him to get out of the contract if there were remaining commitments on the contract,” the person said.

Camp Ocean is yet to respond.

Wait? So all of you knew he was fighting the label? I assumed the album took so long because of creative issues not because of business.

Well we all know how poor the American education system is so I’m not shocked that they didn’t know that kerb and curb are one and the same.

      • Ocean Drive September 17, 2016

Most Americans spell cheque “check” so I guess TGJ should have used the simpler word so they’d get it.
