Janet Jackson & Tupac Lead ‘Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’ 2017 Nominations

Over the course of their illustrious careers, Janet Jackson and Tupac have left an un-erasable mark on both music and culture.

It’s little wonder then why the pair are both up for one of the most prestigious honors an artist can receive.

Ms. Jackson and ‘Poetic Justice’ co-star serve as two of the most notable names in consideration for the class of 2017 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It marks the second consecutive time the pregnant star has been shortlisted for the honor, following last year’s  feature and subsequent snubbing.

Still, today’s announcement will no doubt be greeted with glee from the singer’s army of fans, who’ve been campaigning diligently for the honor.

For the late, great Tupac, it serves as his first time he’s been added to the conversation and proves timely given the upcoming biopic on his short but impactful life. Will his narrative play out ala N.W.A’s, who were inducted following the success of their movie?

Who knows.

But what is certain is that you can make your voice heard!

************

The general public will be given the chance to vote for who they believe deserves to receive a spot in the coveted Hall. Their picks will be tallied up to represent the “popular vote,” which will be factored in to the final decision. The latter of which will be established by the 800 historians, artists and industry insiders that make up the voting committee.

Inductees will be revealed in December.

        Ha!! That’s a good one!! 😀

    • Danzou October 18, 2016

What makes you think she deserves to be in the rock and roll hall of fame? She went solo in 2003. It’s only thirteen years since then. Stop it. Stop this ridiculous romanticism of her. Damn.

      • Molly October 18, 2016

Beyonce is the Melania Trump of Music ??

    • Danzou October 18, 2016

      • Danzou October 18, 2016

Next question? Why hasn’t she manged to score a number one hit since 2008? No shade.

      • Avi October 18, 2016

Probably for the same reason you haven’t had a bath since 2008. Beyonce doesn’t pander for number one singles, the same way you don’t pander to hygiene. No soap…err…I mean “shade.”

      • Queen October 18, 2016

SO Danzou is trying to shade Bey, meanwhile stanning for flops like 7 Train singer Brandy.

FYI, your has-been fav Brandy’s last album certification was in 2001, so stay in your lane, you dirty c***.

      • Danzou October 18, 2016

One day you’ll look at your life and ask, “why was I so childish fighting over which music artist is better or more relevant when I was just supposed to enjoy the music?”

Y’all can fight and say all kinds of stink now but give it some 30yrs from now….by then you would have wasted those years for nothing.

        Have a great day.

    • Qaz October 18, 2016

Trolling fail. Beyonce hasn’t been around long enough to be eligible for a nomination, idiot. Trust and believe that in 2028 she’ll get in, while you’re still earning minimum wage.

      • Cake Like Gaga October 18, 2016

Poor Beyhives…the lack of talent a k a writing her music must be hard to digest for many!

      • Janine October 18, 2016

Everyone, please vote for Chaka Khan!! The Queen of Funk!!!

  5. MovieAmi October 18, 2016

Chaka Khan, Tupac Shakur, Depeche Mode and Pearl Jam all deserve to be inducted.

  6. MUSICHEAD October 18, 2016

Why do we give so much relevance to organizations who refuse to acknowledge us as a people? The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is a good ol boys club. I’m sure if Janet got in she wouldn’t even show up for the honor.

    • Danzou October 18, 2016

Well black people started rock n roll. So there’s no way they don’t recognize us as a people.

    • RoyalKev October 18, 2016

      @Musichead

      You sure know Janet!

  7. Human October 18, 2016

Over Whitney Houston?????? Chaka I understand..Janet over whitney are they serious.

    • Avi October 18, 2016

Agreed. Whitney should have gotten in 2010, when she was first eligible (and still alive.) Her debut album was an industry game-changer.

    • pat October 18, 2016

Whitney had a great voice. A creative and an artist not so much. Janet changed the game as much if not more.

      • Linear October 18, 2016

Oh please. After Whitney, just about every pop and R&B female tried to emerge after tried to either sing like her, or sing the kind of music she made. Without her, there wouldn’t have been a Mariah…Celine…Beyonce…Christina…etc., etc. Janet didn’t change the game. She just followed in Michael’s footsteps, with production by Jam and Lewis and additional “creativity” by the usually credit denied ex Rene Elizando. If Janet was on stage and the tape suddenly broke, could she continue show with a live mic? If the same thing happened to Whitney, she she could grab a stool, sing acapella to a crowd and probably get an even bigger ovation. Give me TALENT over “creative” any day. But we’re being shallow, Whitney’s first and second albums outsold EVERY Janet album, as did her Bodyguard soundtrack.

      • Danny Beys October 18, 2016

Whitney AND Janet both changed the game respectively. Whitney opened the door for black female artists to be popstars and also gave a new light to the term diva, the same way Michael did for black people in general. Janet took the black female pop star to a new level with her dancing and creativity. Whitney as stated gave birth to the likes of Mariah, Celine, Beyonce, Mary, and any other vocal powerhouse to follow. With Whitneys s impact , Janet gavee birth to the likes of Britney, also Beyoncé, Aaliyah, Ciara, etc. So while Michael is the indisputable King of Pop, Whitney and Janet are boththe black queens of pop

      • RoyalKev October 18, 2016

        @Danny Bey

You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth! Janet and Whitney both broke down barriers, yet both stand on opposite ends of the spectrum! Whitney’s voice and stage presence is what captivated everyone, while Janet dominated a stage like no other! They were the blueprint! Why downgrade either one of these forces to make the other stand tall? … They both do! Their impact dates back to ’85 and ’86 for Christ’s sake! Whitney and Janet’s names pop up on most “Unsung” episodes that feature stories on artists that debuted with them desiring to cross over the way that they did, but didn’t for some unfortunate reason! Even Michel’le’s Lifetime biopic name dropped them. Truth of the matter is, following their lead wasn’t an easy task for most! Although these ladies are worlds apart, they’ve manage to make their impact simultaneously. No amount of hate is going to change that fact!

  8. Paulo October 18, 2016

    my intended votes:

    Chaka / Chic / Depeche Mode / JANET <3 / 2Pac

but for some reason the site keeps crashing. eugh.

  9. Molly October 18, 2016

No Beyonce..i thought she is your legend?! ???

  10. @Linear October 18, 2016

Stfu! Yes Janet did change the game. No one took dance seriously in group performances throughout like she did. Her Control album had a different sound altogether. She actually wanted her album to sound like that. And she helped produce and compose it. Her ex husband is a LIAR! He sued Janet for songs that Janet didn’t even get credit on herself. Janet said that he did help, but it wasn’t all like that? HOW? This is the same person that said he didn’t understand the pre-nup that he signed because of his supposed learning disability!

  11. @Linear October 18, 2016

And one more thing, Janet proved she wrote her songs by dragging Rene on her All For You album and racking up some more #1’s W/O Rene. He does get credit on her Velvet Rope album, but I doubt he had little to nothing to do with the writing because Jimmy Jam said that Janet had all of the songs written before they even created the music to it and some of that stuff was actually about Rene!

    • XoMoDe October 18, 2016

TVR was the only album he actually received citation for. Both Janet and Jimmy Jam both said that he had been instrumental in co-writing her songs and conceptualizing themes since her Rhythm Nation album. He said that he didn’t want to come off as being overbearing or intrusive, so he allowed himself to not be properly credited for his contributions.

      • Huh? October 18, 2016

But Rene is credited on Rhythm Nation and Janet thought of that one and the Janet. concept and VR.

  12. S****** Blonde October 18, 2016

The competition is strong this year, I mean both Janet and Tupac are competing with musicians like Joan Baez, Journey, Pearl Jam, Depeche Mode, Jane’s Addition and Kraftwerk, it’s hard to choose between those legends.

  13. ka October 18, 2016

I rooting for Janet after they wronged her last yea, 2pac and Chaka long over due like it usually goes with black artist.

  14. Courtney October 18, 2016

Janet was first among the nominees for induction last year though she’s been eligible since 2008 as her debut album was released in October 1982. 2 Pac just became eligible this year as it’s been 25 years since the release of his debut album ditto for Pearl Jam there are also people from behind the scenes who get inducted each year. some artists have to wait several years to be nominated or inducted for example Stevie Nicks became eligible as a solo artist in 2007 and has yet to be nominated for induction her first album Bella Donna was released July 27th 1981 Hall and Oates is another example of an Artist who waited over a decade after first eligibility they became eligible in 1998 as their first album was released November 12th 1972 in 1998 Stevie was inducted as a member of Fleetwood Mac

  15. Cough Cough October 18, 2016
