Lady GaGa has revealed that one of the songs on her new LP was written to honour the short but impactful life of Trayvon Martin.

Slain by the serial criminal George Zimmerman, the teenager and his story stand as one of the many foundations of the Black Lives Matter movement which seeks to reshape America’s view of black people.

Full story below…

Doesn’t everyone belong/ In the arms of the sacred/ Why do we pretend we’re wrong?/ Has our young courage faded?/ Shots were fired down the street/ By the church where we used to meet. Angel down, angel down. Why do people just stand around?

In an interview with Zane Lowe, Gaga revealed that the song ‘Angel Down’ on her new LP ‘Joanne’ was written about Martin.

She shared:

I was overwhelmed by the fact that people just stood around and didn’t do anything about it and that the justice system continues to over and over again not seek justice for these families.

She then went on to explain why she stands with those seeking change in society.

They tell me they drive in their cars and if they hear a siren there is a paranoia that rushes through their body that they freeze up, that they can’t think. This is a tremendous anxiety; this is something that I care about. This is something that has to stop, something that we all need to heal from.

  2. King October 21, 2016

I really thinks she’s coming from the heart.
As for others it’s convenient for them to speak and appreciate black lives when their trying to win campaigns, trying to get ppl to buy stuff.
Where were you when all this happened in the beginning?

    • ? October 21, 2016

Its convenient for her too, she’s just released an album. Goodbye

  3. truthtea October 21, 2016

Really Gaga? Where the f*ck have you been the past few years? You’re only speaking up because you have something to sell. Well back Mrs. Narcissistic! I’ve always seen right through you!!! Good luck going gold with Joanne!

    • JOHNVIDAL October 21, 2016

She did these type of things months ago when she was MIA too and didn´t have anything out. Stop hating.

  4. truthtea October 21, 2016

I have been following the Black Lives Matter movement since day 1 and not once have I ever seen her advocate for anybody! You tried it though!!!

  5. King B October 21, 2016

Y’all always come up with something negative. Isn’t it good that someone is with the BLM movement?

  6. King B October 21, 2016

And all of you are sitting infront of ur computer doing nothing but criticizing.

    • JOHNVIDAL October 21, 2016

That´s right. All of them are always “following” and judging but they are actually doing nothing. Just hating on everything through the Internet.

    • ? October 21, 2016

Im on my phone honey ???

Angel Down is not among the best songs on the album but it’s a good message nonetheless.

    • JOHNVIDAL October 21, 2016

Which ones are the best on the album in your opinion? I thought you had said Angel Down was one of them but I obviously don´t remember well enough 🙂 I trust your taste a lot and is just to compare with my thoughts when I buy and listen to it next week.

      • S****** Blonde October 21, 2016

        @John
My favorites are Sinner’s Prayer, Come to Mama and Million Reasons.

        The best songs are:
        Joanne
        John Wayne
        Dancin’ in Circles
        Million Reasons
        Sinner’s Prayer
        Come to Mama

        Ok thanks

But when BEYONCE did it she did it for attention, why did GAGA not release ANGEL DOWN in 2013, since Trayvon died in 2012. Why did she wait now till BLACK LIVES MATTER became popping this year.

      • HailLegendBeysus October 21, 2016

Can’t wait for the response to this comment above! ???

      • S****** Blonde October 21, 2016

It’s simple, Beyoncé is racist, Gaga is not.

      • Love October 21, 2016

Did this white sheet wearing racist twink just call Beyonce racist. Would you care to explain David Duke?

  8. Onzei-n October 21, 2016

Oh, please. Is she gullible enough to think that other people are gullible enough to buy into this? This is yet another stunt. Treyvon Martin, really? How many albums has she had since his murder? Gays can serve in the military and get married so now she’s trying desperately to hop on the BLM train for a new hook to try and manipulate people into buying into her.

  9. J October 21, 2016

Angel Down is actually one of the better cuts that I’ve heard from her in a long time. Definitely one of my favorites and knowing the meaning behind it makes it even more special. If you guys can take the time and listen to it you might even like it lol. I don’t think it’s a ploy but everyone seems to be on a negative kick about everything nowadays.

  10. Avi October 21, 2016

She’s about as transparent as Saran Wrap.

  11. Surprise..(DEC 2013) October 21, 2016

  12. Sandra October 21, 2016

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. I Don’t remember hearing anything from GaGa throughout the black lives matter movement or during the period after Treyvon’s death.
I hope she’s donation a portion of the albums funds to a cause or fund created in Martins name

  13. Adrian LePier October 21, 2016

Black folks aren’t cutters, so I don’t know if this Monster recruitment drive will work.

  14. Lea October 21, 2016

…They should have picked Jlo or Usher for the superbowl. I like her, but she’s no boss! Her continuous flops are tired and so is she…

  15. Truth October 21, 2016

    Anything to sell a record.

  16. Steven October 21, 2016

But wasn’t George Zimmerman declared innocent?? You idiots will believe the media agenda which was created to destroy unity in our country. Yes there are corrupt police officers, but there are also corrupt people in all professions. ALL lives matter!

    ONE QUESTION:
Where is the outrage, protests, etc when black lives are being taken by other black lives in inner city communities on a daily basis?

You can’t turn on your local news without hearing stories of unnecessary killings on a daily basis, yet we choose to focus on isolated incidents because it is easier to blame the police than it is to look within our own crime filled neighborhoods!!!!

    • Danzou October 21, 2016

You had the nerve to call everybody else idiots for believing the media then turned right around and mentioned black on black crime in the news. Anyway, there are more black people getting into college and graduating college than there are dying or going to jail from so called “black on black crime.” The “inner cities” aren’t automatically populated by poc when you wanna prove a point. You wanna talk about black on black crime, well let’s talk about white on everyone else crime. You say that there’s an agenda to destroy unity in our country and I believe you. It’s called white supremacy, structured racism, and systemic oppression of which your race created to keep you at an advantage over poc for over 400 years now. George Zimmerman was ruled innocent but if u even had half of a brain you’d know that’s a lie. There was a man who literally got choked to death as well as a man who was gunned down in cold blood BOTH on camera and neither got a guilty ruling. So take all that “all lives” mess somewhere else.

      • Kwinzy October 21, 2016

        Go in on em Danzou

      • Blue Ivy Rod October 21, 2016

You have a teenage boy murdered in cold blood by a civilian playing cops and robbers, you have a man choked to death by an undercover officer with an illegal choke hold but yet no guilty verdict, you have a pre t*** playing with a toy gun and somehow police pull up on him only giving him 2 seconds to grasp the situation then kill him, another man being shot to death by cops who were told by a civilian ” there’s a black man with a gun walking around wlamart” only revealing it was a toy gun and the irony of the case is that its a open carry state. What about Jordan Davis who was killed because the man didnt like the music him and his friends were playing? He got justice but why do people think theyre entitled to tell people what to do with their possessions? Sandra Bland that died mysteriously? Eric Sterling? Philando? This is a problem and you cannot ignore it anymore

      • Steven October 21, 2016

        You just made my point…

News and the media are not the same thing!

Second: I am a black American who grew up in the city of Chicago, never in my statement did I say that all POC live in the inner cities, that is just foolish and I assumed that you were smart enough to realize that without me having to spell it out. I was referring to the inner cities because statistically that is where the murder rate is the highest and it effects ALL people not just the black community. I grew up in a single parent house hold and my mother worked extremely hard to provide a good life for me and my brother. I KNOW and understand the true meaning of struggle.

The city of Chicago has been devastated by crime, drugs, gang violence, murder, etc. I have witnessed God loving people in my community gunned down in the street like animals with little to no outrage. People that live here have been programmed to believe this is normal or even acceptable behavior which is the REAL problem. There are neighborhoods across our country that are so dangerous, police travel in sets of 3.

We need to build relationships with these police officers that work hard to protect our streets, and the local goverment needs to offer better training to ensure that the respect for citizens in these communities and justice is fair.

Do you know how much police officers make each year to put their life on the line on a daily basis?
        35k – 45k yr. – Avg. Starting salary
Try supporting a family on that salary. Most police are good people, by saying they are not means you live your life believing that most people are not good (they are human like me & you), which would explain your bitter demeanor.

We spent $$$ to investigate someone who was proven innocent in a court of law, and we have real murderers walking the streets who should be paying for their crimes.

We should be outraged at the amount of gun violence in our country PERIOD. We should not feed into any media agenda that attempts to pit us against each other!

        SPREAD LOVE NOT HATE!

      • Danzou October 21, 2016

If you are black then you’re self hating. Either way it goes you’re not getting out of this one. I don’t believe you’re black but if you are then you need to reflect a little.

  17. Danzou October 21, 2016

Ok but you was snapping pics with black facers so.

  18. MsThing485 October 21, 2016

No one needs this from her. I don’t know what she thinks she’s getting out of this, but I’m pretty sure this song is a disingenuous and self-motivated gesture rather than an earnest one.

  19. sleazy October 21, 2016

only beyonce uses the black community struggles for her own benefit and yall say nothing about that ? everytime it involves her album she had those mothers there
