Madonna Responds To Lady Gaga Songwriting Comments?

Since the onset of Lady Gaga‘s career, comparisons to Madonna have been both plentiful and plaguing.

Matters weren’t helped when her Madgesty slammed the star for being “reductive” and taking the ‘Express Yourself’ a little too literally.

In the years since that 2012 jab, the Pop titans appeared to have mended fences – even posing for a picture together earlier this year.

Their respective fans, however, haven’t been so civil.

As such, when Gaga made a spirited plea for the comparisons to stop during a recent radio interview, some took it as a shade grenade. Especially when the singer cited her status as a songwriter as one of many key differentials.

Never one for silence, it appears Madonna has offered a subtle response.

Taking to Instagram, she shared and subsequently deleted the following picture and quote:

madonna-writing

Ink is the blood of literature. Remember when people used to write? ✍ this post is not commentary on my ability to write. I have no need to defend myself. I love the art of writing. Putting ink to paper. Its more soulful then texting and so beautiful to receive a handwritten letter. ✍

Coincident timing? We don’t think so.

Madge is seasoned and savvy when it comes to playing the media game.

Whatever the case, it certainly makes for an interesting release week for Gaga’s new album ‘Joanne.’

Typical Gaga. Remember she dragged Katy during ArtPOOP era? Is this chick always in competition? Does she actually enjoy just playing or is it always about proving, one-upping, annoying and antagonising, and does she antagonise because she’s angry that someone might have the nerve to not like her art? And her fan base is the most annoying and childish. I think she is bitter because people love Adele these days. 8 years and she is struggling to have a Top 10 song. Sad. ?

Imagine selling your brand new album for $3.99 on its first day of release. Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna, Briitney’s fans can’t relate. Bye gurl! ?????

The extra charge for guacamole at chipotle costs the same as Gaga’s new album ?????????????????????????????

Did anyone else notice that Pooanne was on sale at Amazon for $3.99 a few days ago?

I didn’t expect the album to be on discount until Black Friday. It will be on the clearance bin at Wal-Mart by the time Christmas arrives.

Her single now is 0.69 cents on iTunes. That is quite laughable.

The payola over at Billboard carries unabated with a gushing “News” piece about Flopgas incredible ‘comeback, now spanning 3 years since ArtFlop.(whish they failed to mention was a huge let down in itself ). Also failing to mention the gigantic flop Perfect Delusion is, as it didn’t go Top 10 and falls out of the Top 40 in one week and out of the top 50 in iTunes only selling 13,000 copies in its 3rd week. Failing to mention no one watched her new video ( already overtaken by one of the ex one Direction numpty Nial ). Failing to mention no one is streaming her s***** song either. Gushing how all the hits from her Flopanne will fit nicely into all her other amazing songs at the

Tsk! If only Lady Gaga just admitted from the get go that Madonna inspired her shtick, this s*** wouldn’t have happened. Britney, Rihanna, Katy all experienced great success and are honest with how the queen inspired their music and image and all have been loved through the years. Love Madonna, she adores Beyonce, Nicki and Rihanna. She is always being supportive to our sistas. Gaga???

Madonna- 30 years in the industry and 300 million records. Period.

Looks like a low budget era for Gaga. Her record label doesn’t want to spend more money on her. With only 3 #1 US hits and all the flops in recent years. She doesn’t have a #1 song song since 2011. It’s 5 YEARS from now!

No wonder her record label is dropping her. Now it’s official, she’s over! No need to say anything more. Let that b**** flop in peace! Maybe she will sing hip hop next to sustain her career. Maybe a duet with Ariana or Miley.

    • Yawn October 24, 2016

Funny a Madonna tribute singer Lady Gag Gag doing the same marketing again, discount the album, play the victim – ‘I nearly quit the music scene because my fame suffocated my creativity.’ (What creativity???) She was discovered in a dive bar, a creativity team surrounded her for a couple of years then the all left, then her career went down the toilet faster than a wet greasy turd. I see she is lashing out at criticism now, more victimisation. She is so shady. Sit!!! ?

People often try to credit Madonna’s collaborators with her 30+ years at the top. Yet she has always been far more successful than anyone she ever collaborated with. If any of them were the true genius behind her music then why were they never able to replicate that genius with anyone else? Aside from on Bedtime Story and her more recent albums, the crowning glory of any producer she has ever collaborated with has been the work they did with her. If she were a man no one would ever dare question her abilities as a songwriter or producer. As a female pop star Gaga should be ashamed that she dared to question this, given that she often finds herself victim to the same sexism about her abilities. Madonna is right. She has no need to defend herself. Her work speaks for itself, and in 30+ years and 200 million+ album sales there has only ever been ONE common denominator in her music; and that is that it was written and recorded by her. Still, I’m now loving Gaga’s album. Joanne is a grower and plays like a beautiful movie soundtrack.

    • Lamb4Life October 24, 2016

She has a competitive nasty streak and I don’t like the behaviours she has brought to pop culture, I think people like that should be eradicated from the scene and far more lively all-encompassing compassionate all age individuals brought back to the scene. I think she’s negative aswell. and no wonder she attracts those nutjobs she calls her fanbase.

    • Thee Hee October 24, 2016

Gaga on twitter uses, not 1, nor 2 — but THREE hashtags for the Perfect Ilusion video premiering on Sept. and was asking her Little Morons to hype this s*** up. She really wants this #Brangelina, Jennifer Aniston, Brad, and #TeamJen trend to be over so she can get her chances to promote her flop video.

😆 , I sense some jealousy from this woman. Her fake breakup w/Taylor can’t be on their same level as Brangelina’s. Their divorce is still thee Hottest News today that media will continue to talk about it. There’s no room for this nonsense and now she has nothing to talk left and this week – MADONNA!

    • Yolanda October 24, 2016

Wow! “Perfect Illusion” is HUGE! Number one requested song on every radio station!!…and the video is so expensive and innovative!…NOT!!! …ha ha ha!

What a huge let down for her fans, many of them are forcing themselves to like it!… ha ha ha! Gaga has NOTHING when she cant copy Madonna! CREATIVELY BANKRUPT INDEED! 🙁

  6. MusicLife October 24, 2016

I can’t believe she would Gaga that is say something like that about someone who she clearly idolizes. Wait. Yeah I do.

Gaga needs the news coverage and buzz to help bring her music career back to the forefront of pop culture and make her a talking point on entertainment news programming so that people know she released an album. Then once they report on this they will not that this album is her most personal to date and different from her past music. Therefore intriguing some to buy or listen to it.

In short, just a basic marketing tactic/trick to get word of mouth and media talking about Gaga.

  7. HailLegendBeysus October 24, 2016

Welp, Po’Anne is already already tumbling down charts worldwide. It’s currently only #1 in 22 markets. Madonna is just doing charity work and throwing her clone 5 seconds of publicity.

As far as I’m concerned Lady Gaga isn’t even in the realm of Madonna’s success. When Gaga has been around for decades and is still able to produce a chart topping hit, like Madonna, then we’ll have something to talk about. IMHO, Gaga is a Madonna wannabe. Madge is multi dimensional. Gaga is one dimensional. All her work sounds pretty much, the same. And for those calling Madonna washed up consider the following; still producing massive world tours, is in the song writing hall of fame, a roller coaster career spanning 30+yrs and has had a new sound each era, each pretty damn successful… Lady who now? Three albums in and she’s struggling already? Wow, yea, Gaga is on the top of her game alright. Rather sad when the uneducated youngsters come around and live in their own perfect delusion. Here it is 30 years later and Madonna’s songs still resonate and shows the evolution of an icon. In the words of Mariah and Aretha “longevity”

    • The kpop guy, Matt ~ October 24, 2016

Well ofcorse Madonasaurus Rex has longevity since she has outlived the Jurassic era.

      • Coolness October 24, 2016

The old jokes are actually pretty lame. We’re ALL gonna grow old someday. The only that won’t happen is when we die. If anything, Madge still being here is a sign of her tenacity and being in good graces. Three out of her main peers of the 80s and 90s are gone.

      • Coolness October 24, 2016

        Meteorite
And? When was this about success? Wasn´t this about songwriting? We could also say Madonna is not even in the realm of Gaga´s vocal skills and recognition by the industry when she was Gaga´s age, like at all. See? We can all stay out of topic just for the sake of discrediting 🙂

    • Nate October 25, 2016

Seriously. Even Madonna’s first couple of songs are still poppin and fresh. Madonna’s music is timeless party, gaga’s music is that night you never want to remember.Madonna crafted the very songs Gaga stole melodies to for her songs. Reductive, indeed.

  10. ELIE October 24, 2016

So acting even more like a moron and waging around a microphone is her new gimmick. Wow, how creative… “I’ll do anything that gets me attention, because I really am that desperate.”

This is someone that has a mental illness – her mental illness is her need for constant validation or else she feels empty inside. So f****** thirsty.

    • GodneyS October 24, 2016

..and her pink cowboy hat. Eurghhh.

  11. Coolness October 24, 2016

Gaga’s statement was ironic because a day after she implied that she was more of an overall musician than Madonna, it comes out that the latter is nominated for an induction into The Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Irony of riches at its finest, lol. I have no dog in this fight seeing that I’m not a fan of either ladies but Stefania has to take an L with this one. For someone who has STUDIED Madonna down, she sure missed that Madonna also plays instruments and also writes her music. Tbh, the only thing Gaga has over her predecessor is that she is a much stronger singer than Madonna was and will ever be. Both girls have employed shock tactics but whereas Madonna did it to make a statement and sometimes poke fun at society’s policing of women’s s*xuality, Gaga tries to pass off her antics and often generic pop songs as high art that only her Little Monster’s would understand. Therefore, she often comes across as pretentious. I wish Gaga the best though. She is very talented and I’m sure would put on a great halftime show next year.

    • HailLegendBeysus October 24, 2016

  12. Me October 24, 2016

Gaga never made a dollar from me and it will stay this way .

  13. Molly October 24, 2016

Wow! Gaga’s record label must have her on a very tight budget! The video for “Poppa Dont Preach”,…oops!, I mean “Perfect Illusion” looks super low budget! ….and where did she get her outfits from? ….the Walmart halloween sale? I actually feel sorry for the little mons-toids, they waited for so long and all they get is a mediocre song and cheap video! As one little monster said “the song actually sounds better after you listen to it 5 or 6 times!”…ha ha ha! zzz.

  14. Kiah October 24, 2016

Perfect Flop debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #15 Bwahahaha. So after sitting at #4 on iTunes with Payola for its first week and now without any payola, sitting at #121 lol and falling tragically. Will Flopga even be in the top 40 charts next week with 2 mediocre songs on iTunes?

Reading Twitter and the Flying Monkeys tying themselves into knots trying to spin this as anything other than a massive flop is hilarious.

    • JOHNVIDAL October 24, 2016

I don´t think you understand what payola is.

  15. Rihboy October 24, 2016

  16. Taylor Swift-To-Find-A-New-Man (Slayty) October 24, 2016

Lol Monsters coming in with the stale ageism drags. Madonna has always been a writer even back when it was normal for artist to not write their own music. The woman is a musician. She’s just not forced and contrived about it like Flopga.

  17. Jordan October 24, 2016

Remember 6 years into Madonna career she released the timeless and legendary LIKE A PRAYER which she wrote and 27 years later it’s still played and recognised as one of the greatest songs of all time, 6 years into Gaga career and she is out the top 40 after about 2 weeks with Perfect Illusion and is selling her album for $3.99! Gaga please be quiet, your a joke too music, no one takes you serious as a musician, you don’t sel because people only like the generic gimmicks! don’t ever breath Madonna who is a living iconic legend out of your mouth, you will NEVER be in the same league as her EVER!

    • JOHNVIDAL October 24, 2016

Gaga is obviously not a joke in music since all her peers and the whole industry and legends (except for Madonna when Gagag became a threat) have embraced her. A joke? Florence collaborates with her because she´s a joke? Tony Bennet? Grammys, oscars? Madonna was taken way more of a joke at Gaga´s age in music industry. Way more. She wasn´t respected until Ray of Light or recognized. Her music was great, but she hadn´t been recognized. So your argument about Gaga being a joke is… a joke.

      • Jon October 25, 2016

The only reason people attack Gaga is because she’s a threat to their fave. People attacked Madonna because she was at the top as well. It’s funny, Rihanna sold 120k albums first week for anti and Sia only 80k first week and EVERYONE praises them. No one will dare say Sia or Rihanna are flops. However, Gaga is likely to debut with close to if not more than 200k first week and the haters call her a flop. It’s so pathetic! I just laugh it off because the reality is, if they follow every one of her moves and know more than her stans do, then well…they are in fact her fans!

    • Jon October 25, 2016

SHE didn’t sell any album for that price. Amazon did it unannounced to her and it was for ONE DAY! PS. Her BB #1 album, #1 in 70+ countries on itunes, first album ever to reach #1 on 4 music charts (overall, pop, jazz and country), highest ratings on SNL since 2008 says “hi!” Keep hating!

  18. Shaquana October 24, 2016

Desperate words from someone who can’t fill proper venues and has to resort to a “7-eleven dive” tour. Poor Gaga, nobody is checking your singles on iTunes! Bringing up Madonna’s name hoping to stay on top but still fl0p!

  19. Matt October 24, 2016

    Agree with everything you said!!!
She needs to be humble, lose her ego, Shut her mouth and let the music speak for itself.
Actually follow Madonna’s example of how to conduct herself with grace and respect for all artists.

    • Mark111 October 24, 2016

Are we taking about the same Madonna that dissed Janet, Mariah and so many other talents during her young days?

      • Amerikkka’s Most Wanted ~ Tyler October 24, 2016

Those were her peers. Gaga on the other hand, is disrespecting LEGENDS!

      • Miguel October 24, 2016

Janet, Mariah and Whitney have dissed Madonna several times.

    • JOHNVIDAL October 24, 2016

Madonna (love her) respect and grace? Are you serious? LOL Craziest “argument” I´ve read.

  20. Rico October 24, 2016

But why does everything has to be a comparison? Why Not let gaga enjoy her release? It’s pathetic. Madonna is so iconic she shouldn’t even keep feeding into anything. But tbh that’s really how she’s stayed relevant by staying in tabloids and controversy. Females are always so carry. Gaga Nd Madonna does make different music.

  21. Jackie October 24, 2016
