With a bangin’ bass, glimmering piano and an acoustic guitar, Alicia Keys provides a whole-hearted ode to her family in her new single ‘Blended Family (What You Do For Love).’

In the song, the face of the “no makeup” movement opens up about the peaks and valleys of creating a family with her husband Swizz Beatz and her stepson, whose mother is R&B songstress Mashonda.

Speaking on the cut, which serves as the new lead release from her sixth album ‘Here,’ Keys says:

“It means so much to me and our whole family. The understanding, compassion and support we’ve found is a powerful testament to the healing that comes when we choose love. Especially for the kids… the most important part of our lives. Celebrating @mashondatifrere for our commitment to each other with support and true growth.

It’s the most open the 15-time Grammy winner has been about her private life, aspects of which have played out quite publicly.

Take a listen below…

Kudos to Ms. Keys for “going there.”

From an artistic standpoint, it must be quite liberating and from an image perspective felt as if it was becoming a necessary move.

As for the actual song, it packs in a lot yet does so in a way that could easily be at home on the radio.

Is the hit she’s been searching for?

DIARY (I WONT TELL YOUR SECRETS). IF I AINT GOT YOU. BUTTERFLY. LESSONS LEARNED. FALLIN. ……..POOR ALICIA, SHE HAS LET THE MONEY AND FAME GO TO HER HEAD AND ITS HARD TO WRITE AND PRODUCE A HIT. GO BACK TO BASICS, PUT THOSE BRAIDS BACK IN YOUR HEAD, CLOSE YOUR EYES “SIT” AT THAT PIANO AND THINK ABOUT THAT GIRL YOU “TRULY LOVE”. STOP PLAYING SO MUCH.

Is no one deeping the lyrics and message. It’s corny, yes but it’s nice! It’s not like it’s utter rubbish

Where is the piano, Miss KEYS? If this is the lead single, then this album never really had a chance! Alicia’s lead single usually anchors the entire era for her…this sounds like a song for some MTV movie lol…where is Channing Tatum? Ya’ll know what I’m talking about lol

What is this soundtrack filler mess?!

  8. Everyone’s A Critic October 7, 2016

This is her next hit! It hit me straight away. The instruments and the melody.
Still waiting for MY Alicia to come through. The one I haven’t heard from since Unthinkable

Lastly who else thinks PINK would’ve been a better feature. This sounds like Pink

Alicia fell off bad. She was the golden child of the ’00s, but the ’10s has proven to not be her decade.

  12. Qaz October 7, 2016

Alicia went from being able to do no wrong to now not being able to do anything right.

  13. ASHY October 7, 2016

I feel bad for her because the reach is real.. Where is the voice?

  14. Theman October 7, 2016

This song is great. It’s fresh.

  15. JOHNVIDAL October 7, 2016

The worst song among the 3 she has released for this era. Still not bad. The other two were great.
I can´t believe all this music that is coming out this week. Many albums from talented artists to buy all of a sudden 🙂

This feels too contrived and the song manages to be personal yet sound generic at the same time. It also sounds dated. I wasn’t that into the other singles but they are miles better than this in my opinion. This sounds like a filler, maybe she’ll release a different single that will spark more interest in the album before November. We’ll see.

Nice song, not single material though. Things In Common flopped and it was an amazing song, better than most of the Girl on Fire album.

  18. Sherrele October 7, 2016

Nice song but not single material. Come on Keys I’m rooting for you on the new album. I love her old music a lot. Ak is a great writer. I know that she can write a good hit ballad. Come on! This song is more of a album filler, not a single

  19. JT October 7, 2016

LOL “the new lead release from her sixth album.” So what is this, the fourth “new lead release” from her album? Or we on unsuccessful single number 5?

I miss the old Alicia Keys

    The song isn’t that bad

  22. Who cares October 8, 2016

Well it’s clear that she’s not going commercial this era. In common was hot! And should’ve went #1 but for commercial you gotta set it up right or it will fall flat no matter how good the song is. It’s great she feels she doesn’t have to wear make up, but it’s one of the pieces to the puzzle….image…. timing is another. The video should’ve been released with the song in my opinion, however the video wasn’t that great either…. yeah I think she’s done trying to be commercial, but I enjoy her albums so I will definitely check it out
