Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’  allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.

This week we’ll invite you to come on over and relive the magic of Christina Aguilera‘s 2000 hit ‘Come On Over’ – the fourth and final single from her multi-platinum, self-titled debut album.  Ending the reign of Madonna‘s 12th and last #1 run on the Hot 100 (to date), ‘Come On Over’ shot to #1 this week 16 years ago on the strength of strong radio play and sales.  Reportedly one of few songs on the project where Xtina was given creative control over the song’s concept, and later, its accompanying music video, the tune’s colorful music video would also be the beginning of the singer’s departure from her “cookie cutter” image (a journey brought to completion by the time 2002’s ‘Stripped’ rolled around).

Giving Xtina the distinct honor of being the youngest artist to earn three #1 singles from one album (‘Genie In a Bottle’ & ‘What a Girl Wants’ being the first two), tuck in below to see what other songs joined ‘Come On Over’ in the top 25 this week in 2000:

HER CAREER LASTED 3 ALBUMS, AFTER THAT EVERYTHING WAS A HUGE FLOP. DESPITE BEING MORE TALENTED THAN BRITNEY, THAT H** OUTLASTED XTINCTA.

  2. #TeamTinashe Stan October 13, 2016

My favorite era that I don’t think we’re ever going to get from her again… 🙁

  3. Kitty Puurrzz October 13, 2016

Xtina is somewhere in her lair preparing a take over! Trust me, she’s far from over. Talent like hers is 1 of a kind.

  4. JOHNVIDAL October 13, 2016

Madonna´s catalogue is epic. Every album felt like a real era and anticipation and album power was always there 🙂 She was actually always involved in everything in her career too 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • MADONNA FAN October 13, 2016

SAD WE CAN’T SAY THE SAME ABOUT WHITNEY, MARIAH AND CELINE ALBUMS FUELED BY THE SAME GENERIC BALLADS.

      • JOHNVIDAL October 13, 2016

But we can say they have/had way more raw talent in one of their fingers than Madonna´s whole body. So stop it. Learn to take compliments dear Madonna lol

Fake Madonna fan. Using her name as a ID to troll under, hoping to instigate some mud slinging her way. Sam, you gotta start requiring a log-in.

      • MADONNA FAN October 13, 2016

VOCALS ARE NOT THE ONLY TALENT. MADONNA IS THE BEST FEMALE PERFORMER EVER. SHE DANCES, WRITES HER OWN MUSIC, PRODUCES IT AND SHE IS CREDITED FOR CREATING SOME OF BEST POP ALBUMS OF ALL TIME WHILE YOUR BELOVED VOCAL TRINITY IS TRASHED BY CRITICS. SHE EDGES THEM OUT IN TERMS OF TALENT.

      • kiiii October 13, 2016

        @Queen navy
He won’t because that would wipe out half of the comments on each post

look at all the bops on this chart that actually deserved to be there. now I look at the charts and I’m trying to figure out how half those songs even got there & who tf even sings/raps them. I miss this time in music. And I’m not saying music was the greatest back then but it was immensly better than whatever tf we got now

  6. xtina fan October 13, 2016

I’m so tired of living in the past with this woman.. I hope she puts effort into her new project, I doubt it but one can only hope.

    • MADONNA FAN October 13, 2016

SHE IS DONE, SHE LOST HER CHANCE FOR A BIG COMEBACK.

  7. Onzei-n October 13, 2016

This is actually depressing. I dislike that Xtina song but would take it over everything that passes for a hit by today’s standards. 2000/01 was about the last time the charts were decent. They soon died after that. 90’s babies have ruined everything.

    • JOHNVIDAL October 13, 2016

It all went downhill with the new millenium I agree. And still has not stopped. I suppose it was just a consequence of illegal downloading starting around that time and the industry music industry becoming weaker.

    • XoMoDe October 13, 2016

“They soon died after that. 90’s babies have ruined everything.”

      ——

Basically. I’m sorry but anyone who isn’t old enough to remember Martin, In Living Color, TLC’s “Creep,” Titanic or pre-“Crazy In Love” Beyonce shouldn’t be influencing pop culture.

  8. christinastherealtalent October 13, 2016

I really wish people would quit comparing her relevancy to Britney. Acting like Britney didn’t just have 2 flop albums back to back herself. Anyway, I’m really over all of this waiting Xtina is putting us through. I guess we’ll have to wait till year 2020 before we get another update from her.

    • MADONNA FAN October 13, 2016

BRITNEY LASTED LONGER THOUGH, XTINA WAS ALWAYS IN HER SHADOW.

    • Jesse October 13, 2016

FloptIna has had 2 flop albums and can’t book a tour or score a top 20 solo hit glory got critical praise and is far from a flop. Britney stays winning than this b**** like mary j blige once said.

      • fresj October 13, 2016

Glory is a flop..stop with the lies and delusion.

      • Danny Bey October 15, 2016

Yes Glory slays musically but commercially it’s a flop unfortunately.

  9. Biting Truth October 13, 2016

Christina is done. One flop album you can recover from, two puts your career on life support. Anyone who’d bet on her next album doing better than the last time is a fool. That she’s now more known for being on The Voice than her brief run as a pop star makes it unlikely that she’ll ever regain commercial prominence as a pop singer. Right or wrong, Taylor, Katy, Gaga and Adele basically removed all need for Christina.

    • XoMoDe October 13, 2016

Christina was already done before all of them emerged. Gwen, Fergie and Nelly Furtado were already washing her away in the mid 2000s. That stupid “Back to Basics” concept album killed her career. She shouldn’t have done that.

  10. ???????Chile, take this “Itty Bitty Piggy” to the market and make sure you hold her hand while crossing the street!??????? October 13, 2016

I remember being so pissed off that Xtina’s label purposely manipulated her public image to “black” her up. The lisps, micro braids, featured rappers on singles, etc. we’re enough for me to he offended and to stop supporting her. But I’m glad that I realized she was only a puppet back then in her career and now she has total control to express herself authentically and creatively. I’m hoping for another “Bionic” to come soon.

    • XoMoDe October 13, 2016

All those things were done by her own choosing. Christina wanted to be as black as JT does. She used to cry and complain about her Genie In a Bottle era not being the “true” her and wanted to “black” herself up. I’m sure her label would have preferred that she kept it Radio Disney.

  11. christinastherealtalent October 13, 2016

Ha, Make Me flopped hard! It may have peaked in the top 20 for 2 weeks but it sure as hell fell out of the chart faster than the Titanic went down.

  12. Holden October 13, 2016

Christina’s music career died because she’s a trend hopper and panderer. When 90s T*** Pop and sounding like The Backstreet Boys was in, she was that. When sista-girl R&B and Hip Hop overtook it, she became that. When electropop and EDM was in play, she tried to jump on that. She’s never had any genuine identity. Britney is a cheesy cartoon, but she at least knows who she is and stays in that lane. Christina wants to be whatever is hot right now. But whatever is hot right now tends to get behind what’s new. Christina had her time as the new toy to play with, but she’s outdated now.

    • Avi October 13, 2016

She even tried to hop on the Latin Pop fad during that JLo/Ricky Martin/Enrique Iglesies phase, which was happening simultaneously with both the late 90s Britney/Nsync/BSB teenpop thing and R&B-Hip Hop Destiny’s Child/Nelly moment. You’re right, she tried to jump on whatever was popular at the time. It was like watching someone with multiple personalities alter from one to the next.

      • Sharp October 13, 2016

You do know that she is half Ecuadorian, right? So how can she “try” and hop on something she is? And to add insult to injury Mi Reflejo topped the Billboard Latin chart spending nineteen weeks on top of the chart. It was also the fifth best-selling Latin album of 2000.
And her being “urban” only came about because she was working with Lil Kim, Nelly, Missy and Redman… so if the shoe fits…wear it bîtch! (Vanity)

      • Avi October 14, 2016

I don’t care if she’s 50% Ecuadorian and 50% Chalupa. The Latin pop fad was there, and it was yet another area she intentionally tried to squeeze herself into to bolster her profile all the more. And her wannabe “urban” spiel started with her first album, where she went out of her way trying to namedrop R&B singers as her alleged inspirations, covertly imply that her music amongst it…all while singing about genies and bottles, and making sure she was still featured on the cover of T*** Beat next to Britney and 98 Degrees. The bottom line is that Christina is now, and always has been, an opportunist and wannabe.

  13. Mark111 October 13, 2016

I said this once and I’ll say it again. Xtina artistry was all over the place. You can tell with the Mulan cover that she was aimed to be the next vocal Ballad diva (Whitney, Dion, Mariah), but a lil thing called Britney Spears came along and the label switched to the other t*** pop girl look. To me, she was the Brandy to Britney Aaliyah, alway following, never leading. She sexed it up on Stripped, but that was after Britney doing the same with her self titled. Plus she took from Pink Misunderstood. And Back 2 Basics was just that, basic. And after all that Ironic was her trying to be Gags. To me she was never a leader, sad cause I don’t see how it didn’t work because she had the boxes checked to be Beyonce before Beyonce. But when you have a bad attitude, when your career ends, no one is going to help you.

    • mr.m October 13, 2016

You clearly only judge on the image. not the music.

      poor kid ….

When stripped was released, it didn’t sound like ANY other pop album, it was an original, raw, personal album and it inspired MANY artists (and still), even when BEYONCE went solo she said that she wants to be like xtina n JT, cause they dont try to sound like anybody!! (and she said that TWICE, in two different interviews)

B2B is a classic. NO other female artist (til date) did the same full experimental album like Xtina did. AND so is Bionic! Xtina said she’d do a futuristic sound album way back in early 2008, when gaga was nobody. and the album sounded nothin like gagas s***** forgettable music! Bionic is a masterpiece.

for now, just wait for Xtina’s next album, she’s an original talented artist, and she’s far from over.

  14. Christian October 13, 2016

I enjoyed Bionic and Lotus….. Lift Me Up, You Lost Me, I Am, Not Myself Tonight ,were all great songs! Blank Page, Your Body, Best Of Me, Sing For me, Just A Fool were really good songs too if your a Christina Fan then i dont see how you wouldnt like these songs or albums! I really dont know why people stopped f****** with her Burlesque Soundtrack Was Great and her features on other artist song in english and spanish are also solid too! After YOURBODY failed to chart or take off it was clear she lost all her fans….. That song was Amazing! Its clear at this point that she somehow managed to rub her fans the wrong way because her material has been pretty solid the only thing in my opinion that she flopped on was the superbowl national anthem! Hopefully people give her music another chance, another artist that delivered on her Tringle EP and songs from Mad Love and not getting any reconition is JOJO her new material is really good but shes flopping so hard…Lol

  15. S****** Blonde October 13, 2016

She was the real human Barbie.

  16. BEYSTAN_ SINCE 1997 October 13, 2016

    Meh

  17. Meteorite October 13, 2016

I personally think Christina’s biggest issue is that she’s been putting out an album just about every 4yrs. It’s been roughly 17-18 years in the business and she has only put out 5 albums (excluding her Christmas and Spanish album). And most of her peers who’ve been out half as long as her are about to lap her. Yes, I am aware of quality versus quantity, but when Mariah came out in he 90’s she damn near had an album out every year and each one was solid. So by her standards no one has an excuse. Some say Christina doesn’t have an identity and she reinvents herself too much, one word: Madonna. Did Christina really copy Pink’s Missunderstood? Ehh that’s debatable, but just know that Linda Perry sought out Christina after working with Pink not the other way around. (YouTube her E! True Hollywood Story or her VH1 Behind The Music for proof.) But even then I’m certain most would say Stripped was better than Missunderstood. With Back To Basics she created that lane because soon after Pink did Funhouse and Britney did Circus. As for Gaga copying, she started doing the futuristic stuff during her Keeps Getting Better era which was before the world knew what a Lady Gaga was. And if it wasn’t for Bionic, Sia would NOT be having the commercial success she is having now. And just like with A Great Big World, she made that song. So Christina still has star power, it’s just my personal opinion that when she released that water down Bionic mess called Lotus the general public wasn’t buying it because they knew she’s better than that. The music industry and media are still checking for her as evident by all the speculation. Christina just needs to do what she does best, sing her motherfücking face off! Not that half ass mess she’s been doing but sing like the rent is due!

  18. Christian October 13, 2016

    Well Said!

  19. King B October 14, 2016

Beyoncé and Christina are two of the most beautiful singers ever. I’m sorry Bey, even you lost to Xtina. ?.
