Scribbled in history books for some good and not-so-good reasons, 2016 brought with it some of modern music’s most memorable moments.

Now, as the year draws to a close, TGJ is reflecting on 31 moments that rocked – and to some degree shaped – the Urban and Pop musical landscape as we know it.

We continue our royal stroll down memory lane as King of Pop Michael Jackson tops the highest posthumous earners’ list for the fourth year in a row…

Report:

The King of Pop continues his reign even beyond the grave.

That’s right, for the fourth straight year Michael Jackson has topped the annual list of “top-earning dead celebrities” – a feat that sees him surpass the earnings of fellow musical icons Elvis Presley, Prince, Whitney Houston, David Bowie, and more.

According to Forbes magazine,  Jackson, who died in 2009, raked in $825m in earnings for the 12 months ending on the 1st of October.  That came mostly from the Jackson estate’s $750m sale of the late singer’s remaining stake in the Sony/ATV music publishing catalog – which includes the rights to many Beatles songs – to Sony Corporation.

That handsome sum makes him the highest paid entertainer dead or alive.

Cute, but we are in another era, and Beyonce is bigger now. She is a better singer than MJ, and the press and media respect her, Beyonce has more grammies, more VMAs, and outgrossed him on touring, MJ was mocked and made fun of. Beyonce is praissed and the media is afraid to say something negative about her, look at Kanye scandal, she came unscratched and kanye called crazy.

    • Yoncé The Great December 5, 2016

I’m not here for pitting two of the worlds’s greatest entertainers in history against each other when they represent two eras and Michael (and his sister Janet) paved the way for Beyoncé.

      • beyoncitis December 5, 2016

Lol Janet is a non factor, she’s not part of the conversation. The debut of Beyonce was the end of janet’s career.

@Yonce the great. Thanks for some truth and perspective! ?

I don’t think that one spewing hate and comparisons is even a real ‘Yonce fan.

Just trying to stir a pot of hate..

‘Yonce lives in the house built by MJ and Janet. She says the same as you do, so any conjecture opposing that, is irrelevant..

  6. King December 5, 2016

Go king I highly respect him. Beyoncé wants to bey just like mj and the longevity of madonna clearly. Beyoncé perfects her craft and really understands it.
Trust when bey gets 40 I’m sure she’ll have Dolly Parton money ?

I don’t understand why most people don’t like Micheal Jackson he didn’t do nothing to no-one. He is dead and gone but still make more money than Beyonce. While I’m at it Beyonce is a good singer to. So just leave them both alone.

    • HiJamon December 5, 2016

That’s incredible! I wonder how much of that goes to his kids

  9. Lana Del Fan December 6, 2016

SLAY! SLAY! SLAY!!! I listen to his music to this day and people ALWAYS sing a long or acknowledge him. He was a phenomenal performer and had IMPACT. Him being the highest paid doesn’t suprise me at all!!

  10. Ann December 6, 2016

I don’t know why some people do not have respect for the dead. Micheal Jackson is dead and gone but his legacy still remains to this day because apart from his music he made life easy for the less previllage kids with his money. How many so called celebrities has done what MJ has done. Please stop this hate.
