Thanks to an onslaught of promotional appearances that (to date) have included ‘SNL,’ The American Music Awards, ‘Ellen,’ the ‘Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show,’ and European Music Awards, The Weeknd‘s third album, ‘Starboy,’ has not only lent his largest first week sales to date, but also gives him the third largest premiere of the year (only behind Drake‘s ‘Views’ and Beyonce‘s ‘Lemonade’).

Despite failing to meet initial predictions of 400,000 units moved, the singer’s handsome sum still gave him just enough to place him at #1 for this week’s Billboard 200.

Billboard reports:

The Weeknd blasts in at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with his new album, Starboy, earning 348,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Dec. 1, according to Nielsen Music. Of the Weeknd’s overall start, 209,000 were in traditional album sales.

Starboy, the Weeknd’s second Billboard 200 No. 1, was released on Nov. 25 through XO/Republic Records and is the follow-up to his first leader, Beauty Behind the Madness. The new set was initially released commercially as a download and through streaming services. Its CD release followed three days later on Nov. 28.’

He could’ve done more if didn’t wait until Monday to release it physically. That was really stupid. His numbers are still excellent for this climate especially.
My fave songs are I Feel It Coming and Rockin’.

Meh, not impressed. This and 24K Magic will do the same numbers in the end. His music does nothing for me, it’s for the young ex emo, now hipster that is crossing over to the wanna be bad @ss kids. His fans are the same that buy Lord or Taylor Snake.

WTH? Congrats to him but for all these people always downplaying real talent when it is cool to do so: we can say wihtout any remorse that The Weekend “only” sold what Bruno and Lady Gaga sold. The 3 sold almost the same first week. With the difference that Weekend (and Bruno until lately) are supposed to be the hottest male thing atm.
Congrats to him but I hope this serves as a lesson that people shouldn´t trash real talent and exaggerate other real talents success.
