Streaming’s King and Queen, Drake & Rihanna, saw their respective thrones unbothered this year (as recent reports reveal).

Spotify’s #2016Wrapped list arrived today and, to the surprise of few, the ‘Work’ duo jointly and individually worked up some jaw-dropping stats over the course of the year.  Drizzy, thanks to his record-breaking album ‘Views,’ topped Spotify’s “most streamed list” for the second year by racking up a whopping 4.7 billion streams (more than twice his tally in 2015).  ‘One Dance’ – the megahit birthed from the chart-topping release – now sits in record books as not only the most streamed song of 2016, but also of all time.

Following those 4.7 billion streams is Rihanna, thanks to 2.5 billion streams of hits found aboard her 8th opus ‘Anti’ and across her hit-filled catalog.

    • SMH December 1, 2016

You sound bitter because here we have yet again another list that Beyonce didn’t make.

      • Jay December 1, 2016

A list Bey self sabotaged herself on .. lol Everyone knows Lemonade is only on Tidal so try again 🙂

      • BEYSTAN_ SINCE 1997 December 1, 2016

Bey is only on Tidal, it’s virtually impossible to make this list! Bey is on the list for having the #1 tour of 2016 with $256 million made (The real money) not to mention sold more in physical sales without the aide of streaming or Samsung!

      • Girl December 1, 2016

But yet she didn’t make the Forbes top 10 list awww ??

      • SMH December 1, 2016

        Lol and the excuses continue…

  5. Surprise…dec 2013 December 1, 2016

Beyonce was no 6 worldwide female streamed artist on Spotify….and no 2 in he us alone, and yet she only had her album on Tidal…LMAO. THIS B****, I HATE HER…WHY IS SHE MESSING HER STREAMING GAME UP…I HATE HER.

    • iSpeakTruthNoFallacy December 1, 2016

The information provided above clearly indicates Ariana Grande as the 2nd most streamed…Y’all always blowing helium in Yonce stats. #ReadingIsFundamental #NoNeedToLie

      • BEYSTAN_ SINCE 1997 December 1, 2016

Like the Navy don’t blow up “Anti’s” stats to cover up the fact that album was DOA until streaming & Samsung didn’t come through to save the day! ????

      • Surprise..(DEC 2013) December 1, 2016

My bad..she’e top 4 in the us and no 6 worldwide…BUT STILL, ITS COMMENDABLE THAT LEMONADE WAS NOT ON SPOTIFY AND YET STILL MADE THE TOP 10 FEMALE LIST. THAT IS IMPRESSIVE, YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THAT WITHOUT BEING SALTY.

  6. King B December 1, 2016

Congrats! There’s a lot of competition with the likes of Meghan Trainor, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, Little Mix.

“There’s a lot of competition with the likes of Meghan Trainor, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, Little Mix”.

      .

All of these artists you have mentioned are non-factors on ‘SPOTIFY’, so what exactly is your point?

      .

I’m assuming their truly is no competition when the likes of Adele, Sia, Katy Perry/Drake, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars etc. all use and benefit from ‘SPOTIFY’ (as its the prime form of music consumption in 2016 and is the largest dictator of chart performances across the world considering digital sales & its services have drasticallly declined) alongside your fave. who just happens to not have released her album to any streaming platform sans. ‘TIDAL’ this era.

      .

      Again, what is your point?

  7. LB December 1, 2016

Slay, Queen of the digital era

  8. IStan4Rihanna. December 1, 2016

    .

Sidenote: ANTI has 2.5B streams and is THE MOST STREAMED FEMALE OF 2016 and OF ALL TIME.

    .

The Queen of ‘SPOTIFY’ strikes again as the “most streamed female artist” for the third year in a row. ???.

  9. HailLegendBeysus December 1, 2016

Beyonce was #7 with old music no one checks for LMFAO! She’ll continue to be within the top 10 or 5 next year when her 1yr old Lemonade album comes to Spotify. This woman just slays without even trying lmao!

    • SMH December 1, 2016

So now #7 is slaying? Lol this generation is truly all about celebating mediocrity.

  10. SippingmyTea ☕ December 1, 2016

    ? Yea Riri !

  11. BEY>RIH December 1, 2016

Damn, you’re telling me Bey was that high with no music being released on Spotify this year? She would’ve gave Rih a run for her money if Lemonade was released. She’s a streaming force without trying.

    • IStan4Rihanna. (Caribbean Queen). December 1, 2016

This is where an understanding of how ‘SPOTIFY’ operates in general is needed.

      .

Beyonce’ always places in the “Top 10” list of most streamed females in the USA as it’s her domestic market.

      .

She is in the top 10 because her catalogue streams are clearly strong enough to guarantee her a placement, however they certainly aren’t anywhere near the level of catalogue streams that Rihanna (which has been the most for any female artist the last three years + new music from 2016) generates, or Adele, or Sia, or Ariana Grande’ She would not have given Rihanna a “run for her money” in any way, shape or form nor it would it be the case with the other two aforementioned women with or without new music.

      • King B December 2, 2016

Can you provide the total streams for each Rih and Bey’s old album? If possible, the breakdown for each of the songs? Now, Bey’s album was released last decade, THREE OF THEm.And 4 was not really a major album, it flopped according to y’all with absolutely no hits single. So, it is impressive her catalogue album generating this many streams, where 4/5 albums were released way before streaming era.

      • King B December 2, 2016

And I forgot to add in that her old albums are selling from 6-11 Mil COPIES each. With songs like Halo, SL already selling around 9-10 Mil WW. Besides, old albums, there will be many people illegally downloaded it in all these years. I don’t see Britney, Pink, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE. The latter who are constantly on radion rotation and are quite relevant.

  12. King B December 2, 2016

Katy didn’t release album. Adele released hers 6 Months after 19 Mil people bought her album. Those artist I mentioned release their album on Spotify right away. Bruno just released last week. So, what is wrong with my comment? Not like Lana, Beyoncé, Taylor had an album there.

  13. King B December 2, 2016

    @IStan

    • IStan4Rihanna. (Caribbean Queen). December 2, 2016

      @KINGB.

      .

‘Streaming power and success’ isn’t just determined by who releases an album to streaming services and how or when. It’s also based on catalogue streams and the matter of fact is that Rihanna’s catalogue streams (songs that were released either in line with ‘Spotify’s’ inception or years prior yet are being streamed to large degrees) are exponentially bigger than the majority of most female acts, hence why she has been the #1 “most streamed” female the last year’s three years.

      • King B December 2, 2016

You can deny it all you want. When, How are who released their album are important factors. We’ll never know because Taylor, Bey, and Adele sabotaged their release, always. Especially, Taylor and Bey.

      • IStan4Rihanna. (Caribbean Queen). December 2, 2016

Read my comment below. I’m on my phone so I’m not able to post properly in the right reply boxes.

    and*

  15. IStan4Rihanna. (Caribbean Queen). December 2, 2016

    @KING B.

    .

Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera etc. do not genre half of the high catalogue streams that Beyoncé generates. This is why I don’t understand why certain people denounce or degrade ‘streaming’ when…
    .
    1) It is not easy to be a “streaming force”.
    .
    2) It is the prime tool of music consumption and listening in 2016 and has grown exponentially bigger in the last year alone.

    .

Digital sales have drastically declined; the current state of the digital music arena is in conjunction with how it was when primary digital downloads from ITunes were first introduced in 2005. This year, in 2016, only three songs have surpassed the 2M+ mark in the USA and only 15 have surpassed the 1M+ mark – this is horrorfyingly low but understandable because nobody is “truly” purchasing music anymore particularly the ‘SPOTIFY’ demographic of which contributes to 65% of the music buying market.
    .
This is why I find it to be completely illogical when people denounce Rihanna and Drake for example for having a large portion of their album equivalents stem from streaming when they’ve simply adapted to the era. Yes, if one can still sell over 1M+ units of an album in the current music climate then that is superb but it shouldn’t be held against anybody if they don’t given what’s transpiring and that is that we are in the streaming era.

    .

Furthermore, in the USA this year, only three albums have sold over 600K+ units in pure sales; VIEWS, Lemonade & ANTI. Only three. What does that tell you?

  16. King B December 2, 2016

First,I never said I hate streaming. It benefits Bey, why would I. Especially when DIL sold 16 Mil Units, B Day (12 Mil Units) IASF ( 16 MIL Units) 4 and ST ( 5 and 8M ww).

Second, those streaming numbers doesn’t reflect how powerful these artist are. Where are these people when it comes to Touring, album sales, Forbes, Awards, Critic year end list? Now you can compare those who sells album like Tay, Bey,Adele, Eminem,Coldplay, Pink and JT. They slay single sales, album sales, tickets, critics. Almost slayage in all platform. I cannot say the same for streaming artist. I can say Bey is anomaly, as she can top Forbes and Time as well.

    • kelvin December 2, 2016

Lol so Beyonce selling 2.5million copies of her album without making it available on big streaming platforms is slaying sales?

      Beyonce fans are indeed delusional

Rihanna’s album was available for streaming everywhere thereby not making the music scarce, after that she gave out 1.5million copies of the album free and still sold 1.5million copies ww while sabotaging her strongest market ie europe
