Did You Miss It? Brandy Unwraps New Snippet

2016 has been a year filled with tests, triumphs, and more tests for R&B star Brandy.

Indeed, on the one hand she managed to star in a BET sitcom, release new song ‘Beggin’ & Pleadin’, hit the live circuit on ‘The Slaynna Tour,’ and honored at the Soul Train Awards.

However, a lot of the last 12 months have been defined by a legal tussle that has seen her unable to release an album.

No word yet on the outcome of that wrangle, but The Vocal Bible took to Instagram over the festive period to unwrap a snippet of a new song she’s working on with LaShawn Daniels.

Listen below….

Dear God, I love singing to you and about you. Thank you for this beautiful moment in the studio tonight. #DeliverMe @bigshiz – you could always tap into the best of me. You’re the Greatest!

Sounding amazing! Hopefully all the legal kinks are ironed out sooner rather than later, so that long-awaited album can manifest.

It’s almost five years since ‘Two Eleven’ was released.

Love you Brandy but a whole lot of screaming is going on in this clip.

    • Janet Jackson December 27, 2016

      Brandy is a HAS-BEEN!

    • BEYOU December 27, 2016

She sound like she is trying too hard.

    • SterlingInfinity December 27, 2016

I love Brandy but this seems a bit over done with the vocal runs. Sometimes the best technique is less. But most gospel singers over do it so she might be looking in that direction.

    • Dreazy Baby December 29, 2016

      Hated it. Retire gracefully

  2. RCW December 27, 2016

Not sure about this one… guess I’ll wait on the full song

  3. Fan December 27, 2016

10 sec screaming you’ve lost me

  4. RoyalKev December 27, 2016

This appears to be some kind of Gospel track! Brandy usually tends to use a lot of her alto and builds her way up to singing out by the bridge and final chorus (in most of her work), but this one she’s obviously just letting it rip on! Bran’s just giving us some praise singing!

    • gurlbye December 27, 2016

How do you know this isn’t vocals from the final chorus?

      • RoyalKev December 27, 2016

It could be, but I still think it’s some kind of Gospel song! That’s where I was going with it! The point I was emphasizing on was Bran’s approach to singing in a lot of her music catalog verses what’s going on here! She does typically like to build on a climax at the end, but based on what we’re listening to in this clip she seems to be freely going in EVEN HARDER than she does on her albums! A lot of gospel singers tend to let loose more (than Pop/R&B singers) and this song is easily coming off like a praise song to me!

  5. cocobutta December 27, 2016

Brandy been going through some things so this is her scream to heal for deliverance.
Her voice does some absolutely delightful things so when its finished and polished I KNOW it will slay even more.
    Its raw and passionate.

    Heres to a much better 2017 I hope for B-Rocka ?☄

  7. LadyLia December 27, 2016

    Wow go Brandy!!

  8. Danzou December 27, 2016

People swear that she has no range then the minute she uses it, all of a sudden it’s just screaming. This is obviously clips here and there from the actual song, not just screaming. Ironic coming from Beyonce Stans claiming someone else is screaming. #vocalBible

    • Perfectlyhuman27i December 27, 2016

And she doesn’t all I heard was some horrible screaming from the 90’s

    • BEY>RIH December 27, 2016

Bey would sing this b**** into a ditch..

  9. Logan December 27, 2016

    This sounds amazing

  10. gurlbye December 27, 2016

She better sing in her head voice! Not feeling all the edits and auto tune, though.. Probably sounds much better in the context of the song. Easy to nit pick a vocal in isolation.

  11. Musicboi17 December 27, 2016

Made me tear up, She’s the real R&B Queen

  12. MUSICHEAD December 27, 2016

When Brandy has the confidence, she can do amazing things with her voice. Give Me You, I Know Now and even God On My Mind are incredible contributions to Gospel music by Brandy.

  13. King December 27, 2016

Y’all really taking this vocal bible thing to far. She has a great voice but vocal bible now y’all reaching.
I like her songs but not always her voice.

  14. King December 27, 2016

    Whitney should’ve been vocal bible.
    Lisa Fischer
    Minnie
    Like come on

    • RoyalKev December 27, 2016

Whitney was already labelled “the voice”! I think these titles thrown around are just simply different ways to celebrate these artists! No one is putting down other women to salute their favs! It’s nothing wrong with that!

  15. DTG December 27, 2016

Brandy is nobody’s “vocal bible.” I don’t know where that stupid moniker came from, but it’s so false that it’s a lie. Her voice is raspy, mumbly and can be annoyingly high pitched, like fckn Alvin & The Chipmunks. That’s not a vocal bible, that’s somebody who needs to take vocal training. Most of the time, she sounds terrible.

    • Bruno December 27, 2016

That’s what i’m saying, just terrible.

  16. Musicboi17 December 27, 2016

    VOCAL BIBLE!!!???

  17. Chase December 27, 2016

Her voice is terrible, she sounds like a Chipmunk who smokes.

  18. Musicboi17 December 27, 2016

    VOCAL BIBLE????

  19. Metzo December 27, 2016

Incredible. She is back and better than ever. I didnt know she could hit that kind of high note. Yes lord

  20. Bruno December 27, 2016

I’ll pass. By the way, why do her fans call her the vocal bible, her vocals are just awful. I guess that’s why you never see her name on any top female vocal list, and rightfully so.

  21. Usual Observer December 27, 2016

I promise I’m no hater because I don’t have a reason to be. But, can someone please advise me as to why Brandy’s fans call her the “vocal bible.” Honestly, truly. Is it because she can do runs?? I really hope that’s not why. She is certainly not the only black girl in the music industry with the ability to do clean runs. And, Brandy’s ego is as big as the Pacific Ocean so she eats it up. But, the gag is that the GP hasn’t featured her since the early 2000s. But, okay #vocalbible❤️

    • G.M December 27, 2016

All of this. Speaking of her ego, she’s was being interviewed some where, and she said, “I’m the s***” If that was the case, she wouldn’t have been dropped 4 times. A mess.

  22. G.M December 27, 2016

All of this. Speaking of her ego, she’s was being interviewed some where, and she said, “I’m the s***” ? If that was the case, she wouldn’t have been dropped 4 times. A mess.

  23. Jj December 27, 2016

Brandys the vocal bible because every since she came out males and females singers producer gospel sing r and b to pop have tried to duplicate her runs that at technically hard to do no body can run like her and have the vocal tone so rich that she does

    • Vandrea December 27, 2016

Pure conjecture and spin. They may try to emulate Whitney… they may try to emulate Aretha… they may try to emulate Mary J… hell, they may even try to emulate Mariah… but no one tries to emulate Brandy. That’s a tale made up in the heads of Brandy’s stans. Her “runs” are annoying, childish and usually undisciplined-sounding. Brandy kinda/sorta sounded good on her debut album, but the older she got the less refined her voice became. Odd that at 14-15 she sounded smooth, but at 21+ she was a mess.

      • Beyoncé Jackson December 27, 2016

Lies you tell. Singers from old to new have cited Brandy as a vocal influence. India Arie, Kim Burrell, Ariana Grande, Jazmine Sullivan, Sevyn Streeter, Teyana Taylor, Ciara, Rihanna, Solange, The Walls Group, JoJo, Fantasia, Kierra Sheard, Tynisha Keli, Tyrese, Tank, Maxwell, Tamar Braxton, Ro James, Justine Skye, Jessie J, K Michelle, Keyshia Cole, Tori Kelly, Elle Varner, Kelly Price, Jennifer Hudson, Stacey Barthe and I can go on and on and on and on! Chris Browns entire vocal styling came from years of studying Brandy.

      • Vandrea December 27, 2016

Just pulling random names out of thin air, hoping that no one would challenge it. You even threw in Maxwell. Hilarious. I hear the Smurf’s are inspired by Brandy too, every time they break into a chorus of “La, La, L-la, La, La,” you can hear that Brandy influence! #peganvocalbible

      • FAB December 27, 2016

???…”I hear the Smurf’s are inspired by Brandy too, every time they break into a chorus of “La, La, L-la, La, La,” you can hear that Brandy influence! #peganvocalbible

      • Beyoncé Jackson December 27, 2016

There are literally interviews, tweets and videos to support every name I stated. I don’t have time to copy and paste but you know it’s the truth that’s why you’re pressed my love.

      • Beyoncé Jackson December 27, 2016

But I will leave you with these words from Mrs Kelly Price:
UrbanBridgez.com: Then there are singers like Brandy and Monica who came out of the ’90s and are still making records. What do you think of them?
Kelly Price: Oh my God! How can I forget? Brandy and Monica, whom I’ve both worked with. And I must say, Brandy is a voice that, to me, gets enough recognition. I think people recognize her songs in a higher capacity than they recognize her. I would put her in the Top 5 Vocalists on my list. We don’t often get the chance to hear the magnitude of her vocal ability because her songs a lot of the times are sing-songy – the ones that people have caught on to and the ones that have gone to radio – but if she was just to stand flat-footed and sing, she’d take a whole lot of people out.

UrbanBridgez.com: What is your favorite Brandy song?
Kelly Price: Oh, God! *sings* It used to be that you couldn’t live without me, but now you think… “Love Wouldn’t Count Me Out.” And it wasn’t a single, but she sang the hell out of it.

    • Jasmine December 27, 2016

Are you saying that Brandy can sing better runs than Aretha, Patti, and Whitney? If so you are delusional.

  24. Usual Observer December 27, 2016

There are plenty of singers that run just as good and have beautiful tones. Jazmine Sullivan & Lalah Hathaway are two R&B singers that come to mind. Hell, Kelly Price and KeKe Wyatt. And, pretty much every gospel singer runs. Brandy doesn’t have anything on Kim Burrell or the legendary Karen Clark-Sheard or Dorinda Clark-Cole for that matter. #themoreyouknow ?

    • Beyoncé Jackson December 27, 2016

Brandy isn’t just about runs. When I think of Brandy, I think tones, harmonies, stacking, intonation and the ability to change her vocal style at the drop of a dime. Even Kim Burrell studied the Full Moon album. HER WORDS, not mine. ?

  25. Usual Observer December 27, 2016

And, if you can throw Tamar and Toni into that R&B runner mix too TBH.

  26. Beyoncé Jackson December 27, 2016

One thing about Brandy is she has the ability to change her vocal style at the drop of a dime. I prefer her smooth, melodic vocal stylings but that’s just me.
Brandy – more Whitney influenced vocals. Flat foot sangin and runnin’

Never Say Never – sweet, simple girlish vocals

Full Moon – smooth, melodic, dark, husky, intricate vocals and crazy harmonies and vocal runs…this is when Brandy came into her own vocally and created that “Brandy Style”. A lot of artists studied her vocals and stylings on this album hence the “vocal bible” title..

Afrodisiac – smooth and melodic, but in your face vocals and runs

Human – straight emotional singing from the gut. Less vocal stacking and harmonies but more heartfelt and pop.

Two Eleven – this is when Brandy was at her most “current” sound. She sang is her lower register for most of this album and didn’t do a lot of vocal stacking. However, her runs on this album are crazy and her vocals have a more sultry tinge to them!

TBA – it seems like Brandy is giving a more gut wrenching, soul stirring, backwoods, churchy feel this time around and I can’t say that I’m not here for it. Hopefully she’ll give us some of her signature melodic smooth tones and lush harmonies also, but who knows!!

I love brandy Because that b**** can switch it up WHENEVER!!! The singers y’all named are very good vocalists, but they don’t have the crazy ability that Brandy has, no shade no tea children.

  27. JustCoastWitHa December 27, 2016

    SINNGGGG!!!!!

  28. B_Roni December 27, 2016

She is MY vocal bible. If you don’t like her voice then oh well. You guys can speak for yourselves.

  29. Musicboi17 December 27, 2016

    Best female vocalist alive!

    • Perfectlyhuman27i December 27, 2016

Clearly your asleep if you believe that

  30. Usual Observer December 27, 2016

Brandy is a really good singer, no doubt. But, should she be revered as this vocal bible? No ma’am. Despite the struggling state of her career currently, she made a huge impact on the music scene along with her peers like Monica? during the 90s when R&B music topped the Hot 100. Best of wishes to her and her new project. Her ego is a huge turnoff, though. The most press she gets these days is Shaderoom clapback posts. But, I digress. I’m finished and I’m done lol.

    • Beyoncé Jackson December 27, 2016

Why not? Her industry peers gave her that title years ago. If she’s not YOUR vocal bible, fine but a lot of people study her vocals and stylings. I don’t know why that title has people so pressed.

      • Perfectlyhuman27i December 27, 2016

Yes her industry peers at the soultrain awards gave her this tittle lol

      • Beyoncé Jackson December 27, 2016

Even if that were factual, they’re still her peers. And the artists who participate in the soul train awards and more vocally talented than 99.9% of the pop industry. Kii.

  31. Pat December 27, 2016

Vocal bible. The scales she uses n her runs are far more complicated than ur favs

  32. Perfectlyhuman27i December 27, 2016

This can’t be a song she’s putting out it just can’t be !!!! I mean after all these years this is what the “vocal bible” smh lol comes up with ?Brandy , take a minute and reflect on what it is you really should do . Maybe acting is more your thing leave your singing career in the 90’s where you left it because my dear your voice is aggravating.

  33. Kina December 27, 2016

lol it’s always the same trolls with the same stale reads and thumbs down in every Brandy post. Literally “chipmunk,” “childish,” “smoky the bear,” “undisciplined runs”. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s the same thing lol. Brandy sounds amaze balls and I can’t wait for her to release some music finally ❤️

  34. Yachi December 27, 2016

I swear I hear Fantasia. Aren’t they doing a duet together?

  35. DigitalGirl December 27, 2016

Chile Brandy is the only R&B chick that has done movies, Music and had mutual Tv shows. Over a 20 plus year span career. Plus she was just honored with the “Lady of Soul” award. Some of you don’t know what a career is. She’s been doing TV, Music, Movie and now Broadway for 20 + years. She is a trailblazer. Legend even #Brandy #Moesha #Cinderella #Chardonnay #ZoeyMoon

    • Jasmine December 27, 2016

Delusional and idiotic! You act like Beyoncé, Mariah, Rihanna, Whitney and countless others did not already exceed those accomplishments. I think Brandy stand are delusional. If you want to say she is a good singer people might bite but when you make false claims like Brandy is the only x,y,z and the best singer ever you are just telling lies. Learn to appreciate your favorites for what they bring realistically instead of telling lies.

  36. FAB December 27, 2016

No shade, but I literally can’t stand her voice.

  37. Yachi December 27, 2016

Just did some digging. Earlier thus year it was rumored Jasmine Sullivan, Brandy and Fantasia was doing a song together. I wonder if this is it?

  38. OQRAM December 27, 2016

Brandy is noone’s ‘vocal bible’. She can stand some vocal fine tuning, TBT. Stans of hers have always had this irritating habit of exaggerating to make her seem more significant than she is. And did I just someone name drop Toni (as in BRAXTON) as having been influenced by her????? Toni…influenced by Brandy????? Toni, who is a decade older and was out BEFORE her???? Have several…

    • Beyoncé Jackson December 27, 2016

Toni loves Brandy, but Tamar lists her as one of her favorite vocalists. Stop trolling.

      • OQRAM December 27, 2016

Oh???? The ‘trolls’ are the ones on here making false claims about her being more than what she is. Throwing out Toni’s name like yall aint got no damn sense. I’m offended by that junk! Brandy’s stans will say she influenced Mahalia Jackson and was bigger than the Beatles if you let em. REAL TALK: Brandy is only occasionally slightly above average but is usually just “OK” in terms of singing. Her singing was never without flaws and things that needed to be FIXED.

    • FAB December 27, 2016

I was just about to type that, He or she said “Toni Braxton”, I can’t.

  39. Usual Observer December 27, 2016

Lmaooooo “some of you don’t know what a career is”… that doesn’t quite apply when Beyoncé is your fav, sis. Lol. But, that was cute and a great laugh.

  40. Fresj December 27, 2016

Brandy fan since she was on thea’s mean fat ass show.
Raspy tone, over running and rifting, and stacking background vocals just doesn’t equate to a vocal bible to me.
There are too many singers that would outsing Brandy on social media alone for her to even have a title like that.

    • MsThing485 December 27, 2016

Stacking background vocals, IMO, is basically cheating. It’s a manipulated wall of sound effect for the lead vocal track to be drowned out by so that any flubs or off sounding notes won’t be as noticeable or offensive. Most exceptional singers don’t resort to that kind of studio trickery.

  41. Janelle December 27, 2016

It seem like everyone come into Brandy post to hate on this poor girl. We’re always tearing artists down just to build up other artist on this blog. I’m not even a Brandy fan, but I know she’s accomplished and sings well. People make this s*** so personal and it’s childish. Doves are quick to harp on every little thing she does now and throw all this shade while taking the high road like minister Brown. Truth is Brandy and Monica fans have both been ridiculous lately. This vocal bible thing is just her fans way of complementing Brandy. No one brings up dozens of artists when Beyonce’s named King B or when it’s said that Rihanna’s reign won’t let up. Nobody said, what about Aretha when people said MJB’s the Queen of hit hop soul. People ain’t beefing about Ahanti being the R&B princess or Britney the princess of pop. Ya’ll need to be more chill and stop only challenging Brandy fans over something so trivial.

    • MsThing485 December 27, 2016

No, I think most of the “hate” is a reaction to her overzealous fans trying to spin a narrative that only they agree with. If they had simply said, “hey, nice snippet,” instead of screaming “vocal bible,” this wouldn’t have devolved into such contention. Then again, this article probably wouldn’t have had even a third of the comments that it does had it been that clean. Backtalk is better than no talk, I guess.

  42. PurpleRain87 December 27, 2016

Brandy oustings your fave. Brandy oustings your fave. Brandy outsings your fave. Brandy outsings your fave. Brandy outsings your fave.

  43. Usual Observer December 27, 2016

As much as I love Beyoncé, I’m the fan that hates bringing her up against other artists but…..See, the difference is that Beyoncé lets her work, the media, and her fanbase speak for her, though. You’ll never hear Beyoncé in an interview saying “I’m the sh*t.” Unlike Brandy’s fans deeming her “the vocal bible”, with Beyoncé, the mainstream media from CNN to Huffington Post to Rolling Stone to Time etc etc etc all hail Beyoncé as “Queen Bey”, not just the Beyhive.. see the difference? If you don’t then you probably won’t.

    • asipofbrandy December 27, 2016

You are mistaken I can distinctly remember when Beyonce bragged about being queen and telling b****** to bow down, hell she had a song bragging about having a God complex where she indirectly compared herself to God.

      • Amerikkka’s Most Wanted ~ Tyler December 27, 2016

That’s exactly what she was talking about ya big dummy ! Beyonce let’s her MUSIC speak for itself

  44. THE REAL December 27, 2016

Brandy’s voice has always been divisive since she first came out on 1994. Her tone is rather unique. It’s not super clean ala Monica or Aaliyah. There is a raspiness there and if you don’t like that sound you’re likely to believe she isn’t a great singer. But the real singers critiquing her have always praised Brandy’s vocal ability… Jill Scott, Gladys Knight, Angie Stone, Fantasia, Monica, Chris Brown, Brian Mcknight, Jennifer Hudson, Jessie J, India Arie and many many more have all praised her. There is a video on YouTube called Brandy Celebrates 20 Years or something like that, where Brandy reacts to almost 20 minutes of praise from industry peers. Folks try to discredit Brandy for her lack of commercial success the last 10 years but doesn’t mean she isn’t highly respected.

That said, I love her singing here. I will always support new Brandy material. Never Say Never, Full Moon, and Afrodisiac are some of the finest and most innovative R&B of the 20 years, real talk.

  45. Tina Lord Roberts December 27, 2016

Well, I wish her well. Aside from 2 or 3 sporadic songs here and there, I was never a fan of hers. But she’s an R&B female from the 90s who’s still around, and I’m compelled to want to see her do well in this climate that seems to be so anti- people from her era and genre. I didn’t listen to the snippet, but I’d be more interested to know what – if anything – she’s doing on the business/management end to try and come back. I think if she hooked up with someone shrewd and competent in the industry to pull the ring strings and make the right deals on her behalf, she could find some success again.

    • Tina Lord Roberts December 27, 2016

      *right

  46. Chile Please!!! December 27, 2016

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!! Brandy is NOT PLAYIN THIS TIME! Never heard her hit those high notes like that! Those runs are just nothing to be FAWKED WITH! I love when people can do different things with their voice! BEYONCE could NEVER do it like this with soul & conviction! Yes I brought her name up in this because ya’ll act like she’s the best vocalist ever…..NOT! Brandy slays all wigs!

    • XoMoDe December 27, 2016

You brought Beyonce’s name up to start trouble, because you’re a sad, thirsty, attention-seeking queen…and probably not even a Brandy fan.

      • Chile Please!!! December 27, 2016

You’re irrelvant!!! Never a queen boo boo!! Attention seeks me!!! Been a Brandy fan since day one! You’re just some young breast milk baby still sucking on some tits! Have a seat before I put you in the crib & take a nap.

  47. Shakira Stan December 27, 2016

This sounds better than anything from lemonflower…why are the hives so pressed because brandy can outsing fakeyonce even while asleep.

    • Leah December 27, 2016

There are literally no Hives in here. Most of the haters are probably Monica fans. You can’t keep Beyonces name off your lips. Shakira is a has-been BTW!!!?

      • Shakira stan December 27, 2016

Why is her Spanish song reeking more views than everything relesed from bitter lemon, why is Chantaje above all night in billboard hot 100 and why has shakira’s only movie zootopia out grossed every movie Beyonce has been on?

      • Leah December 27, 2016

You’re delusional and making up accounts to get the Hive to drag Brandy. Grow up?

      • Shakira Stan December 27, 2016

Leah honey, the name brand is already a drag on it’s own… Go deal with Monica and her stans and let two bonfide pop stars drag it out .
Brandy hasn’t been relevant since I was born, why would I go all through that trouble to drag her.
        You overate yourself b****

      • Shakira Stan December 27, 2016

Beyonce is a fat ugly w****

      • Leah December 27, 2016

Because Beyoncé had you PRESSED duhhh!!! She stays on your mind.?

    • Chile Please!!! December 27, 2016

Thank you @ Shakira! The Fleahive is pressed like buttons…..Theifyonce can sing…but she will never out sing Brandy! Brandy has SOUL in her voice….the other witch…..is like a hood opera singer FOH!

    • Fresj December 27, 2016

Beyonce sings way better than Brandy!
FOH!Beyonce doesn’t have to rift and run to hide that she can’t sing a simple line or note. She also doesn’t have to stack her vocals to create a fuller sound because she has a weak voice.
You stan for Shakira one of the worst singers EVER!
Didn’t her last album, where she stole Beyonce’s art style from 4, flop?Is that why you can’t go a day without “trying” to drag Beyonce?

      • Janelle December 27, 2016

You sound so dumb. Beyonce harmonizes with her vocals as well. Didn’t she just do that on RTW? She’s been doing that since Dangerously in love. MJ also did it, it always made the background add a certain feeling to his songs. Brandy’s not the only artists stacking her vocals. I’d be with you guys if you had more honest complaints about her, but you’re trying to shade Brandy for things a lot of talented artists do.

Shakira Stan.. but, sis… shakira, though. The #GOAT .. and I don’t mean “greatest of all time”.. catch them teas. Shakira and Bey have a good history so Ima let you live lol.

    • Shakira stan December 27, 2016

Still doesn’t change the fact that Beyonce can never be the vocalist brandy is…. Even J hud outshines her…. Keep seething.

  49. Usual Observer December 27, 2016

asipofbrandy… Hun, notice I said you won’t catch Beyoncé in interviews saying the outlandish things your fav does. Furthermore, I stated the fact that she lets her work (this is inclusive of her MUSIC) speak for her. So, am I mistaken or are you a little slow at comprehending? #QTNA .. Enough about Bey, though. Like I said earlier, best of wishes to Brandy on the revival of her music career. Maybe she should pull a Ciara and switch lanes for a while. Honestly…

  50. 2016Who? December 27, 2016

Brandy just out sang every R&B chick in one
Clip. Wow I’m actually shocked, Her voice sound different and stronger. The only artist I know that grows vocally each era.

  51. Jeans December 27, 2016

I loooove Brandy! She is definitely a beast vocally. However, I feel Beyonce is a beast vocally as well. Both are beasts, just different beasts. Lol.

  52. ASipOfBrandy December 27, 2016

This is for everyone that is questioning why you about Brandy is the vocal bible….

BRANDY is named Vocal bible because of Her CONTROL, consistency (never pitchy), runs vocal ability, tone, and DIFFERENT textures and layers of her voice (some she doesn’t even show often), the fact so many SANGERS study her and uses her voice as an instrument as well as an influence from rock stars, country artists, rappers, to R&B artists. Her back grounds alone are many songs in itself. She does 16 stack layered vocal harmonies. If you’re not big on music or an artist yourself you wouldn’t get it. Producers and engineers as well as OTHER ARTISTS IN THE INDUSTRY gave her that name. Not her fans or she herself. A lot of “folks” saying they don’t get it and she’s not all that and this or that but you’re no where near the industry so of course you wouldn’t get it. Human beings hate what they don’t understand. They think being loud is range and their faves are vocal goddesses. And no Excess range does not mean you’re vocally elite ??

  54. Theman December 27, 2016

Brandy is amazing. But as far as runs and shyt no one does them like MC. At her best Mariah is the greatest technical women’s singer..

    • Credits December 27, 2016

Mariah can’t like run like Brandy or Jazmine or Kim burell.

  55. RT December 27, 2016

She IS the vocal bible because her peers study her and praise her voice. No need for all this hateration. All these sad sad online cowards who have nothing but negative energy to spew but if they saw her face to face they’d probably die for a selfie. Idiots.

  56. Brandy keeps some TGJ posters mad which is why they down vote any positive comment about her December 27, 2016

This post is proof of my name. Do you guys seriously get that offended when people call Brandy the vocal bible? How does that hurt anyone? Seriously, what does that take from your faves.

I’ll never understand people’s obsession with policing the conduct of a certain fanbase.

    • Vandrea December 28, 2016

It doesn’t “hurt” me, or “take” anything from any of my faves. Stop with that melodramatic straw-man. I reject falling in line with the premise of Brandy being called “The Vocal Bible,” largely because of the way some people get on here and try to assert it. As though it is some kind of an absolute, when it’s far from.

  57. Brandy keeps some TGJ posters mad which is why they down vote any positive comment about her December 27, 2016

If Brandy is just a flop has-been who peaked in the 90s (which is what a lot of you think) then why does it matter what her fans think of her? Like, why would that bother y’all so much? Your misguided rage is against a very small, minority subgroup and your outbursts border on sheer insanity. Someone who’s so “irrelevant” and whose fans are so “delusional” wouldn’t attract this much attention, even if it’s negative.

  58. Marquise December 27, 2016

Y’all trying it. It a gospel song brandy sounds amazing like always. Talking bout a whole lot of screaming screaming least she makes it sound good without trying hard she the vocalbible get over it all these singers today have a Lil bit of brandy in they music

Just speaking the truth. For someone you don’t like, you have more to say about her than her own fans. Get everything off your chest?

  60. Truth December 27, 2016

All that screaming, no thanks. And like mostly everyone here, I agree, her voice is basic and annoying, and that vocal bible thing is ridiculous.

How does it bother you personally? Y’all don’t have critical thinking skills.

  64. Moneyshioers08 December 30, 2016

My goodness, do any of you go to church ? Let me. Start by saying Brandy has an undisputed and incomparable gift. That voice WILL NOT BE DENIED. I’ts unfortunate some of you can’t hear the magnificence that is Brandys voice. The unique tone, the dark rasp, the intricate runs and riff acrobatics, how deep she can go….. how HIGH she can go, the crispness and flawless execution…. she never cracks…. she sounds like mix and mastered track even when she’s singing live. That’s one reason why she’s been underrated for so long Is because her albums are full of lush production and vocal harmonies stacking that create a rich and most sonic ambience , and the average listener isn’t catching the fact that a lot of the sounds and beats you’re hearing is Brandys actual voice being used as an instrument within the entire musical peice. I won’t argue with anyone about the moniker “Vocal Bible” But if you’re interested in learning why, a good place to start would be ” I Tried”, “when you touch me” and “love wouldn’t count me out” … all from the FULL MOON ALBUM.

Now let’s get on these snippets.
Brandy is annointed. They call her the VB because when you take away the studio and the lush production that has been her signature sound and produced these classic albums , it would take a soul-less person to not recognize that this girl is the truth with no gimmicks or preservatives. The emotion that she can convey while flawlessly floating through notes hasn’t beeen duplicated to this day!

    About the Beyoncé comparisons….
    (Though I rather not,)

It’s really ironic , this debate reminds me of the nicki vs Remy convo. My opinion is that the black community continues to belittle diminish , shade our talented women of darker complexion. Through history it’s always the dark brown women who get the worst insults.

Think about Pam from Martin vs Gina.

My point is Beyoncé is and will forever represent greatness and black excellence at ya highest level. Work ethic unmatched and it speaks for itself. She’s the complete package and the best entertainer we’ve got and the girl can blow ( Duh!!!)

The fact that brandy is a 90s artist and being cared to Queen B in 2017 tells you how good she is!

But in conclusion , take away the stadiums , the hair makeup and perfect body, and put brandy in a room and just “flatfoot sing” ….. she will annihilate her competition every time. She was put on the earth to sing. Her voice heals souls when heard. She makes people cry often… because there’s a purity in her voice that can’t be cloned with going through God himself.

Prime example … that year Beyoncé sung that gospel song at the Grammys from Selma in all white. Now I won’t go as far as to say she sounded bad, but if an artist like fantasia or Brandi would’ve sang that song it would’ve been an overwhelming emotion in the room…. why because Beyoncé is simply singing another perfect ” Beyoncé approved” performance. But singers like jazmin Sullivan, lauryn hill, brandy, will close they’re eyes, forget about looking cute and sing that song like it’s the last song they will every song. There’s a diffrence when you’re singing for applause Opposed to singing from the heart.
