Chrisette Michele Drops New Song Following Donald Trump Endorsement

Published: Tuesday 24th Jan 2017 by David

Chrisette Michele has released a brand new number she hopes will support her forthcoming album ‘No Political Genius’ this week.

Still under a firestorm of criticism following her decision to endorse President Donald Trump by performing at his inauguration, the vocalist drops her very own version of Gershwin’s ‘Summertime’ alongside an interview she hopes will see her reclaim the fans her decision cost her.

Look and listen below…

On the backlash she faced for accepting Trump’s request to endorse him by way of song?

When we got the phone call, and this may sound crazy, there was literally no hesitation. I turned my phone off. After seeing what happened to Jennifer Holliday, I literally turned my phone off because I knew if I was going to make any type of decision, I couldn’t be swayed left or right by what anybody thought. I had to just go with my own convictions. I changed my phone number also. I didn’t even think to say no. It didn’t cross my mind. The first thing I thought was that I have an opportunity to get in front of these people who don’t seem to understand who they’re talking to and show them what we look like. I felt automatically committed to making sure that I stood up for the women who’ve felt disrespected and the minorities who felt disrespected, communities that felt that they weren’t being heard or understood. I thought that it was almost my responsibility to not just say yes but to say yes with purpose, so that was my reasoning. And no, I didn’t think twice about it.

I’ll say that the backlash, I did personally feel, came from members of my extended family who decided that they didn’t want to speak to me anymore or support my family in supporting me. As far as social media goes, I didn’t really look at it much. The two biggest things that I did experience internally was two celebrities who I had much respect for: Questlove and Spike Lee. Those were kind of the two things that I took a look at.

    • BYE January 24, 2017

My whole thing is she did this and shoulda at least dropped the single before. She did this and now her career is gonna be worse than it was before. What an idiotic career move

    • Fancy BISH January 24, 2017

This is ALL I have to say about her dissing Spike Lee, tweeting Basquiat, saying she’s a bridge, a voice for the voiceless, and thinking she was all kinds of cute in doing so…WHATEVER…

SCREAMING! This is a picture of Fab 5 Freddy, Spike Lee, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol at the She’s Gotta Have It premiere in NYC in 1986! Now, Miss Thing…Spike was about to put your music into his new take on She’s Gotta Have It…STANDING BESIDE someone you just tweeted lol…GIRL…THIS is a picture of four guys that TRULY ARE a bridge, were a voice for the voiceless, and made some ART….oh, and some masterpieces along the WAY! Funny how Spike Lee LOVES jazz and R&B, as many of US do lol…who’s gonna buy your ish? Have you cashed Trump’s check yet? $250,000 could go to a great charity in the black community or ANY community if you truly are a bridge and about that life! But do you boo…

We’ll hold our breathe on that one.

    • OMG Logic!!! January 25, 2017

It’s statements like this that spread racism. Why should anyone respect you when you speak of others like they’re some sort of wild animal.

  3. Matthew January 24, 2017

Smart to turn the phone off and change numbers. Ignorance is bliss. The song sounds like an interlude and given the fact that she should ride this attention till the wheels fall off, Id of come out with something better. Still time to do so tho.

  4. B_Roni January 24, 2017

I don’t like this type of music cause I hate jazz and pure R&B. But she sounds amazing and her control is beast. I wish she come out with more urban pop music.

  5. B_Roni January 24, 2017

I liked this last album she dropped in 2016 though

    • B_Roni January 24, 2017

Her song black girl magic sounds like something Beyonce would put out.

    • The Wig Snatcher January 24, 2017

      It was a cute bop.

  6. XOXO January 24, 2017

bless her soul and good luck with that

  7. yc18 January 24, 2017

Why are we still talking about her performing for Trump? its over!!! The performance was lack luster like all her live performance. She can barely project her voice and vocals is always shaky.

  8. Credits January 24, 2017

She sounds beautiful on that song.

  13. Kiii January 24, 2017

trump supporters definitely won’t be buying this. Sold herself out for nothing

  14. okthen January 24, 2017

you know what i hate when people think the audience are fools, just admit you wanted the money and keep it moving.

  15. 4u2see January 24, 2017

Her pr (please remember me) team is horrible. She suppose to be worshiped by the black people first with no bad back-lash before she sell-out. Who told her to do this, to make themselves look good?

  16. Question January 24, 2017

All these words she’s using for “I’m broke and needed the money.”

    #Chile #HaveSeveralSeats

  17. Casual January 24, 2017

She should have said, “I said what I said . . . and if you don’t like it, you don’t like it.” And then she should have gone on to cash that Trump check. People who are so concerned with bullying are bulling this woman for having an opinion that differs from theirs. I heard Steve Harvey talk about the dragging he received after meeting with Trump on his show this morning. I’m all about community, but you have the right and obligation to think for yourself.

  18. #ispeakfacts January 24, 2017

    Stop promoting this broad!!!

  19. Fancy BISH January 24, 2017

She didn’t even get to meet Trump lol

  20. Haters Gon’ Hate January 24, 2017

Fantasia done set the barometer high for contemporary R&B female singers to cover this song. This ain’t it. What a damn confusing PR move. Which demographic is supposed to be checking for this accapella? Which media outlet? What fans? Girl bye.

  21. ohgawd January 24, 2017

    It’s winter Bye Gurl!

  22. Maniac January 24, 2017

If you’re going to throwing your opinion around following suit with popular opinions about American business when you’re not even american, at least learn what endorse means. She did not endorse trump idiots, she didn’t offer money or support or anything she was paid entertainment for the evening. That’s all. People seriously need to chill. Just choosing to hate any and everybody for their opportunities. Like I don’t get how people got mad at Kanye for talking with trump about a position and Steve Harvey for meeting with him. that’s huge! This doesn’t show that they support a racist, sexist, but that they have concern for our country despite having a racist sexist president. Furthermore, not all black people are liberals and this whole hate about who supports who is classless. What happened to the days when asking someone which party they affiliate with was TACKY as h*ll? It’s almost as if they all just want all democrats and black people to bow out of everything that goes on in this country until his seat is up. It doesn’t work like that. People ignoring everything is how this bozo got elected in the first place. Stop being whiny little idiots and grow up!

    • Fancy BISH January 24, 2017

Trump SUPPORTERS ignoring everything is how this bozo got elected in the first place! Get it right.

      • Maniac January 24, 2017

Shut up you’re going all around my point. Millions of americans ignored this past election intentionally because they didnt care. Many millions of people were absent in the primary. Many are visibly the same ones dragging everybody else. Everyone wants to contribute to the problem NOW and complain NOW but didnt give a damn when it counted. THAT’S MY POINT. Trumps supporters heard all he had to say, saw what issues he stood for, and stood behind him. They couldnt wait to get their republican president in office. They couldnt wait to vote for someone who openly expressed with such in-your-face-ness the feelings they felt about womens rights, immigration, classism, racism, poverty, you name it. They didnt ignore anything. They saw the changes they wanted and they voted. They endorsed it. YOU get it right.

      • Fancy BISH January 24, 2017

I understand what you’re saying…I’ll leave it at that…have a nice evening lol

  23. Jo January 24, 2017

Meanwhile, Travis Greene (the dude who performed with her) is off the hook. A black woman is damned to hell when she makes a bad decision. However, the men are let off the hook after a few days. We still love Ye, although he actually endorsed Trump. We still love Kudi, although he beat his ex girlfriend. It’s all hypocritical.

Most of you work for white bigots and would be the first to take a promotion if offered.

PS: That’s not say she was right for accepting the gig.

  24. @ASAPicon January 24, 2017

    Who?

  25. Trina January 24, 2017
