Petition Started To Block Kim Burrell From Appearing on ‘Ellen’ After Anti-LGBT Rant

Gospel hitmaker Kim Burrell isn’t exactly kicking her new year off in the best of lights.

After making headlines for a homophobic sermon where she directly stated insinuated homosexuals will “die in 2017,” the revered singer/songwriter has been fielding attacks from media, supporters, fans, and friends.  Even friends Yolanda Adams and Pharrell Williams have spoken out against her rant and branded it “hate speech.”

Ironically, despite making her stance on homosexuality well known in the sermon, Burrell – who has worked with Frank Ocean among a number of other LGBT stars – is set to appear on ‘Ellen’ in the coming days.  Well, that is, unless a recently ignited petition has its say.

Hosted on Change.org, the petition – recently started by writer and LGBT activist Anthony Antoine – calls for Ellen Degeneres to bar Burrell from performing on her daytime television talk show.

Antoine writes:

Please DO NOT allow gospel singer Kim Burrell to perform on your show January 5th promoting the Hidden Figures movie after her rant from the pulpit December 30th (since removed yet captured by shocked fans and reposted) essentially condemning gays to death in 2017. This type of rhetoric is dangerous – especially to young LGBT people who love and support your show and who have been inspired by the movie Hidden Figures that carries a message of affirming ones ability and merit, not diminishing it based on gender (or race, or sexuality and more).

The activist even goes on to request she be removed from all promotion affiliated with the Taraji P. Henson-led film, ‘Hidden Figures’:

Pharrell and Hidden Figures movie should stop all promotion that includes gospel singer Kim Burrell who clearly detests LGBT people; one who’d speak so clearly to diminish Our right and freedom to live and thrive in 2017 and who has since defended her statements captured in the hateful video.   Let’s STOP HER together!

Those who share Antoine’s view are encouraged to sign his petition by clicking here.

These tops and bottoms are mad. She deserves it though

Like Black people don’t have enough to deal with, Like Black on Black crime, police brutality, racism, and now This Hateful B_itch and her Spewing of Hate on the Black Gay Community, like she’s perfect, She looks like she DOES NOT KNOW WHEN TO PUT HER FORK DOWN. No sin is greater honey. Shut up and have Several Seats.

Regardless of your point of view on the matter, yea she shouldn’t be allowed to appear on Ellen. You have a right to your opinion or spiritual truth, but how you condemn a group of ppl and then want to show up on one of those ppl’s shows? Exploiting ass.

  3. Cough Cough January 1, 2017

She’s legendary but so so sooooooo out of pocket. I support this petition

  4. eric January 1, 2017

She doesn’t “detest” the people, only the act that God speaks of as sin in the Bible. She’s a gospel artist who believes in God and preaches His word. She only said what’s in the Bible. Leave her alone and let her follow in her faith like you have a right to yours.

    • The One January 1, 2017

Does she detest her own sinful nature and horrible attude? She’s a hypocrite in every since of the word. Besides, Jesus was the only human to walk this earth sin free.
If Jesus had nothing to say about homosexuality, then I can’t fathom why people like Kim Burrell are so bothered by the life choices of grown people!

      • eric January 1, 2017

@The One. Jesus didn’t have to speak about it directly. But he did say the greatest commandment we should adhere to is to “…love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” All of us our sinners, but those who love the Lord will strive to follow His word in mind, body and soul. If you have truly accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, God will put it on your heart to know what displeases Him and what you need to repent and turn away from.

Did u not watch the video. I’m ok with here being against the gay act. We get it, she’s a gospel artist. But to go into extreme detail the way she did came off as hate. There is no other way to describe that….pure hate.

      • Citi January 1, 2017

Meme but did you WATCH the original video?? Where she said that homosexual spirits will die in 2017?? What is she trying to reverse above? This is a mess. I dont even know who she is. Girl bye

      • eric January 1, 2017

@Meme. When God gives you a glimpse of the work the devil is doing it doesn’t exactly stir up feelings of love, peace and joy. It ought to infuriate you to see the devil succeeding in claiming souls, especially if it is your purpose and your mission to preach the Gospel. It’s hate for the sin, not the sinner.

So calling gays perverts is in the Bible…..ummmmmm………FOH!

  5. LB January 1, 2017

Ain’t nobody care about this, did y’all see Don Lemon being a hot drunken mess last night? LMAO N**** was white girl wasted.

  6. Jec2 January 1, 2017

Don’t come for the gays Kim. Your hair and makeup may never be quite right again….let alone your sales and admiration.

  7. Meme January 1, 2017

Good. I was going to start this myself yesterday. Glad someone else did and I hope Ellen makes this a strong statement. We don’t have time for this type of hate in the world. My brothers and sisters go thru too much as it is.

  8. Kimk January 1, 2017

I actually want her to go on so Ellen can drag her ass for filth

  9. XYZ January 1, 2017

Those activists should just stop. If someone should stop her from coming to the show it should be Ellen herself as she is a true activist. Though not inviting her would be the wrong choice. Inviting her and addressing the matter in front of an audience and an openly gay moderator would be the correct choice

    • Jasmine January 1, 2017

      I agree.

    • Meme January 1, 2017

No, she doesn’t deserve Ellens platform. I’m sick of these hateful people using gays and their audience for their gain, when they low key can’t stand gays,

      • Jasmine January 2, 2017

@Meme it is not up to you decide who “deserves” any platform. You cannot control how another person feels and what they say, especially when they are saying it in their own home or home church.

      • XYZ January 2, 2017

But that is Ellen’s choice. It is her show and Kim is her guest. And confronting her instead of just withdrawing the invitation seems to be more productive.

  10. Jasmine January 1, 2017

I think this is a big misunderstanding. Gays are adamantly saying she offended them and Kim is adamantly saying she did not offend them. The petition is stupid. Let Kim go on the show and address the issues with Ellen, a gay tv host.

  11. I AM ME January 1, 2017

Regardless if you agree or disagree with what Kim said, this is not gonna stop Christians from supporting her all it’s gonna do is grow her congregation. Just like the founder of Chick-fil-a said something against gays and the lgbt community called themselves trying boycott against the restaurants and more people came in and supported the founder in his defense. Sometimes people feel things in the spirit and some folks are just gonna say what’s on their minds. 2017 will be the year that some communities will b*** hurt over of what people might say. Do all really think this petition is gonna stop Kim? Yall really think that? The world is about to get shaken up in 2017 trust me. Yall are not gonna like some things that’s gonna come your way. Stop whining and get over it!!!!!!!!

There will be more celebrity deaths, mainstream media and entertainment are going downhill, & and more celebrities will be telling behind the scenes stories of that Hollywood Weird World. GET READY GET READY.

We doing all of this for a gospel singer but couldn’t stop Donald trump from being president. Get you’re priorities. This is America and people are entitled to their opinion clearly. Trump whole campaign was ran on hate and he was praised. If it’s good for one it’s good for all. Let her be and let her live !

    • Kwinzy January 1, 2017

      This!

  15. Tjay January 1, 2017

Let me start by saying that I did feel that Kim Burrell went to In depth with speaking about the acts. I also feel that she should not have even considered going on Ellen to begin with. It is not needed, also I don’t blame her for preaching or warning about the effects of homosexuality or any other sin. This is because she is Christian and she was just speaking from her bible to her church.(not word for word) This message was not for the random people that are speaking about it. But rather to church people claiming to be Christian and living a double life. She is ordained to do so. I think that it’s insane that people that don’t support her ministry, pay tithes at her church, or contribute in any way, try to dictate what she preaches. Stop it. Neither Gay people or straight people can control how another person feels and what they say. Stop with the petitions and live your life what ever that is. I agree with Mark Jones, we allowed Trump to become president with a campaign that tore this country apart, but yet people are signing petitions to stop a gospel singer from preaching her truth. If the gay community is about freedom and rights, how can you try to imprison others in a box surrounded by what you feel is right or wrong. If you don’t agree with her message don’t support her but to try to destroy someone because they don’t agree with the life you live is crazy.

Its better to be blocked from going to ellen than to be blocked from entering heaven! go kim burrel God is on your side!

  18. Chile Please!!! January 2, 2017

I don’t think she got the memo that you cannot come for the LGBT community & think you’re going to get away with it. I’m all for voicing your opinion about something, but don’t get carried away with it like how she did. Calling gays & lebos perverts & gonna die & all that made her sound like she have true HATE in her blood. She should be ashamed how the way she carried herself as a Christian woman. Then she makes this supposed to be, “Apology” video…mind you she sounds VERY Bitter in the video & saying everyone is “Just MAD” of course they are, what do you think?? I believe in GOD, but this is one reason why I don’t go to church every Sunday because of these gay bashing fake Christians. She got the nerve to say, “She was talking about the people in her church community” & I would’ve been to first to walk up outta there right after her disrespectful words! 44 y.o. my oss……my mother is in her 60’s & look WAAAAY younger than this gospel Troll Kid! FOH!

    • Jasmine January 2, 2017

I think this is a big misunderstanding. She does not feel like she attacked the LGBT community with her words. Some members of the LGBT feel like she did attack them with her words. I believe in freedom of speech so I don’t think it is fair to restrict people from speaking their opinions, especially when they are doing it in their own homes or home church. People join churches that suit their needs so saying that she cannot voice her opinions about x,y,z there is not fair. I do not see anyone saying the Ku Klux Klan can’t say x,y,z in their churches. Then you attack the lady’s looks. Last time I checked Kim is not a model and she can look however she wants.
