Katy Perry Reveals How Donald Trump Inspired New Album

Published: Thursday 23rd Feb 2017 by David

Katy Perry‘s new single ‘Chained to the Rhythm‘ continues to make healthy gains on radio formats globally weeks before the unveiling of its supporting LP.

This week, she has revealed that the American-inspired set was inspired by Donald Trump’s presidential win.

How so?

Find out below…

After the election and I was kind of depressed and, you know, I definitely didn’t want to write a club banger. I was like, ‘How are we writing a club banger when the world is on fire?’ And it was a nice exercise of writing a song that at first listen is a really fun song, but I guess the more you dive into it, it has a different subtext.

She shared the above in a new interview with Capital FM taped before she took to the 2017 BRIT Awards.

I’ve got something swirling, but I think I want to put out some songs first before I give them the full meal. I think we are digesting things in bite size these days and that’s what we can handle. It’s not shade or anything at all like that… but when someone has a 17 or 19 track album and you’re like, ‘I have to take a trip to Mars to listen to your record in full!’ I mean I love you, you’re my favorite dope artist, but like we want bite size.

Your thoughts?

    • Slayty is Chained to the Rhythm February 23, 2017

She clearly said that was no shade, and we all know Katy can be shady. She has a genuine opinion.

She’s right though! Lemon water was boring and fulled with album filler. Adelephant >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  4. BEY>RIH February 23, 2017

We understand your fans want bite size Mcsingles but Bey excels with releasing full millions selling albums. You should take notes from your “favorite dope artist”

    • Carlitos February 23, 2017

And so does Katy, ya dumb ass!

    • Slayty is Chained to the Rhythm February 23, 2017

Lol your acting like Beyonce’s album sales are leaps and bounds ahead of Katys (after taking into consideration different eras of music sales).

      • BEY>RIH February 24, 2017

Lol they are tho.. Beyoncé’s total album sales: 37mil
Katy Perry total album sales:16 mil

Girl is that Beyonce shade? ?

  6. Chin0 February 23, 2017

In other words she’s going to release two singles in hope one picks up on radio and goes to number 1 before she drops the album so it wont flip

    • LmfaoHoe February 23, 2017

      Pretty much ?

  7. Meiz February 23, 2017

Hahahahaha. I love that shade. Grannyonce is old as f***

  8. Fancy BISH February 23, 2017

Does basic Perry REALLY think she’s doing something new? All I see is Grace Jones, 1984 and David Lynch’s Blue Velvet! And they all did it much better, of course…now go warm up those shaky vocals, how bout dat? lol

    • Slayty is Chained to the Rhythm February 23, 2017

Where did she say she was doing something new? Listening to Iggy is reducing your brain cells sis.

I hate when celebrities throw subs and want us to try to figure out what they mean…Just say what you mean so that we know who and what you are talking about!

    • Kimbella February 23, 2017

Your fav does it all the time

  10. Beyoncé Jackson February 23, 2017

Too bad no one wants to hear political fluff from Basic Perry.
    Bye girl.☕️

    • Trumpland February 23, 2017

Fact is, this was a working class issue. They’re exploiting middle class problems and using it in pop junk.Crooked media strikes again.

    • Slayty is Chained to the Rhythm February 23, 2017

Is that why CTTR broke a Spotify record and is already a top 5 hit?

  11. Ice tea February 23, 2017

Wait, is this b**** throwing shade?

  12. Trumpland February 23, 2017

Not these pop acts using Trump to sell their pop trash. What are they doing that’s different from Trump? They’re brainwashing the masses with their rubbish.Thank God for Trump.Katy Perry wouldn’t know what direction to take. Why was she depressed about the election? B**** you’re a millionaire.

  13. Joey February 23, 2017

Y’all that was NOT Bey shade. Lemonade was legit 12 tracks long and clocked in at like…45 minutes.

  14. XoMoDe February 23, 2017

Is KP’s 15 minutes up YET? Arrogant tramp selling extremely mediocre noise to kids who don’t know any better, while those of us who do are burdened to tolerate this hack. Enough.

    • JOHNVIDAL February 23, 2017

      LOL Yas!

  15. Avi February 23, 2017

**SIGH** I can’t believe that we’re actually about to enter into another period of Katy F*u*c*k*ing Perry. Seriously, again?! The last one was her overstaying her welcome, now it’s about time to get out the pitchforks and run that vapid off the stage. This is such a lost (dead) decade in music, entertainment and pop culture overall. I’m hoping that we’re in the middle of a transition to something new, even if it’s not yet obvious.

    • Linear February 23, 2017

IKR. I remember thinking that the 00’s were bad for music. It got much worse. And this silly b**** right here and all her cheesy lil classmates are really the reason why. If radio and retail was still in charge people like her, Bieber, Gaga, etc. wouldn’t have made it too far past 2010. Blogs, social networks & streaming are keeping should-be hasbeens around longer than they were supposed to last.

      • JOHNVIDAL February 23, 2017

Gaga has nothing to do with the rest of basic acts you are mentioning. Please be realistic she has proved it enough already these last 3 years.

    • Slayty is Chained to the Rhythm February 23, 2017

Yes b*tch, seeth, cry, and be angry because Katy will dominate the radios, late night shows, award shows, magazines, and billboards. Katy runs pop, and you’ll simply have to learn to adapt or hide in a cave.

      • BEY>RIH February 24, 2017

Sorry but Katy doesn’t run sht when Taylor Swift exists and this is coming from a n**** who hates Taylor.

  16. GRAMMY VOTERS SAW THROUGH THE PROPAGANDA February 23, 2017

SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP IT Katy, humble your self, we’ll know bayonce’s stunt and gimmicks to push her brand, that’s why she collects all those R&B GRAMMYs that no one cares, but focus on your’self, this may be your last chance the GP will give you a free pass, and your lead single will be a hit on your name alone, so release something worthy, because net time you’ll get the gaga treatment.

  17. JoJ February 23, 2017

Not having this, its gonna be cheesy and messy asf just watch. stick to the music and leave politics out of pop, most of her followers are kids anyway who dont give 2 shits about politics.

  18. JOHNVIDAL February 23, 2017

Do you guys really think she was shading? I mean she wouldn´t dare, would she? Well, she once shaded Mariah Carey so anything can happen.

    • Pretty Hurts February 23, 2017

Shading Mariah has no repercussions, but going against Beyoncé will ruin your career.

  19. Slayty is Chained to the Rhythm February 23, 2017

Lol isn’t Lemonade like 12 songs? How does 12 equal 17 to 19 tracks? Some of yall can’t do math, which is not surprising. I love how yall skip over the important message about the US’ current political climate and focus on the part you perceive as shade. Katy is and has always been a shady b*tch but she clearly said “no shade”. Smh, yall are the very people she’s referencing in CTTR. So focused on irrelevant things and missing the point of the interview.
