Missy Elliott Drops Trailer For New Tell-All Documentary

Published: Wednesday 1st Feb 2017 by David

Missy Elliott is to pull her fans into the creative space that is her world with a brand new documentary.

Details below…

The project will deliver never-before-seen moments lifted from her latest visuals and feature commentaries from industry insiders and her label peers who joined force to support her new LP by discussing her legacy.

We’re yet to nab a due date.

Quick thought: Could the answer to Missy’s comeback conundrum lie in R&B music?

Though she’s rightfully respected as a Hip-Hop icon, there’s no doubt that much of the foundation for her work lay in her romantic and melodic numbers.

Perhaps people are more interested in cuts akin to ‘All N My Grill’ and ‘Beep Me 911‘ and not the Contemporary Hip Hop-inspired ‘Better.’

Your thoughts?

I just want a new album. She def is worthy of a biopic or documentary but I want music coming with it and I would love to see her on top of her game again. I need female hip hop to be bigger than it is, what’s going on since 2006?

    • LISA LEVINE February 1, 2017

      Her videos are iconic.

  2. FormationNavy February 1, 2017

I mean she really DOESNT have to at this point tbh,AND….we do have “Nicki”, so I think were okay….no?

    • Tim Brown February 1, 2017

      You tried it…

  3. Meme February 1, 2017

I’m better is still weak, bland and boring. Forget what you have done in the past…what can you bring to music today?

    • Beyoncé Jackson February 1, 2017

Chile it’s horrible. I was so disappointed.

    • MusicFan103 February 1, 2017

See you kids will never understand that Missy is the blueprint for many of your current faves. But I digress, enjoy the Nicki’s of the world thinking she is the innovative artist that she just isn’t without her inspirations, guidelines, and blueprints.

      • Tim Brown February 1, 2017

I am a ME fan but I am not a fan of this single tbh. I love her authentic artistry, and the fact that she is so darn likeable and respected in the industry. 🙂

      • Meme February 1, 2017

I’m 30…no kid here. I was T*** when Missy was in her prime and I ate her music up. She was innovative in those times. She just can’t compete in today’s market. Look a kids like Rae Sremmrud, they are the new hip hop innovators of this new era…and rightfully so.

      • Beyoncé Jackson February 1, 2017

Kids? Sis I’m 25 years old…26 in a few months. I was around when Missy was in her prime, churning out hits left and right. The song is lackluster and the video, while good looks like something she’s already done a few times. Missy was an innovator in her heyday, and there’s nothing innovative about Im Better. You may excuse yourself now…

Musicfan- no one is underestimating Missy’s status as an hiphop icon. Her past works are amazing and I so loved last her last studio album. But honestly, everything she has put out during the last 2/3 whatever years has been lackluster and not catchy at all. And just because one isn’t a fan of her new music doesn’t mean that one is a “kid” and needs to love nicki Minaj. Actually, you were putting both against each other, which is the really childish thing

Missy just needs to retire. I WILL ALWAYS love her for what she gave us in the past, but her time is up. Nicki is getting comfortable but her time is running out too. No one is safe, except Adele

    • Beyoncé Jackson February 1, 2017

I was excited when I heard about new music, but she dropped the ball hard with this one. The hook is weak as hell and the beat sounds like Only…

I don’t why y’all are fretting over I’m Better. It’s prolly just a buzz single. The video is creative af and tbh nobody is bringing visuals & choreo in the game rn, not even Nicki’s formulaic self. There’s room for plenty of rappers to bring something different to the table like HOW IT USED TO BE. This one size fits all mentality is disgusting. Do better.

    • The Legend Called Missy Elliott ?? February 1, 2017

I agree… we don’t need another ass and titties video.

    • Meme February 1, 2017

If by creative you mean random then yeah. We live in an era where we’ve seen it all and heard it all. A much of randomness don’t constitute as creative these days. Maybe in 2003 that would be groundbreaking and ahead of the time but it just looks dated asf to be honest.

    • XYZ February 1, 2017

Her videos are still great, but the new music is meh. And a new buzz single? Damn, missy has like an album full of buzz singles now…

Ive noticed something, the only people who actually comment on these blogs are people with absolutely no lives. They suggest mega stars who have influenced the world to retire but yet theyre just someone at a computer giving out advice lmao. Its hilarious to me how serious you guys take this… especially saying that nicki is all we need. When in fact no, nicki is a part of the problem that we want fixed. She makes garbage music and so does the rest of them, hiphop is in need of saving big time and those who are out now are just killing it more, especially nicki minaj. She aint even a rapper for f*** sakes. The b**** is a Korean pop artist.

    • rob t February 1, 2017

Sam, your comment was hilarious and I concur with everything you said. The people who are dishing out advice as if they are industry A&R’s and hiding behind a keyboard are certainly nothing to write home about. Although I do love KPop music, Nicki is the American wannabe KPop artist. Missy is a legend and anybody who suggests that she needs to retire needs to make more money for their OWN retirement cuz drinking all that hateration aint gon’ pay them bills.

You see you have a legacy people set the bar so high sometimes it too hard to reach. No she doesn’t have to make music again, she proved herself 6 times with great albums but she is doing it because she wants. Flop or no flop I’m still going to support it. But I do have a legitimate question. What constitute a hit record chart position or sales?

    • DangerousCurves February 1, 2017

Missy hasn’t had a good song since 2006 (Lose Control). Nobody’s Perfect and Without Me were good songs but they were J Cole and Fantasias….

      • The Legend Called Missy Elliott ?? February 1, 2017

To you, wtf charted higher than all the way up but the website still thinks wtf was a flop and all the way up was a smash.

  8. DangerousCurves February 1, 2017

Missy is clearly stuck in 2003 because everything she’s released since then has sounded and looked the same. She could truly slay if she wanted to, but I guess she doesn’t….

  9. OnlyJ-Mar February 1, 2017

Her new song is garbage lamb really reunied it with the hook I don’t see this song doing well on the charts sorry but Missy can do better.

Missy Elliott is going to do her regardless! I really dig “I’m Better”. I can’t stop watching the visual because hands down Missy Elliott is always ten steps ahead of everyone else! Of course this generation (some) don’t appreciate quality and substance. They LACK the comprehension of certain artists such as Missy Elliott who CLEARLY paved the way for the majority of artist period! I’m reading these comments and let me school a few people on this climate of records. There is nothing innovative or groundbreaking right now and it’s evident. Missy Elliott released a record that has a catchy aura to the market. To be honest “I’m Better” is different and it has the appeal factor. It’s better than the other garbage we have right now on airplay. This record would really SLAY airplay if the promotion is consistent. I think Missy Elliott delivered a solid record. She knows this generation (some) LACK the ability to embrace records and the art itself. Missy Elliott got this because regardless she’s an icon and she can release new material if she wants to! I’m tired of people dictating certain artist what to do with their creativity. Just let these artist express themselves and I know as a supporter of Missy Elliott she will bring the heat! #SlayMissyElliott

Looking forward to the music. She should have released after the Superbowl two ago. I want more R&B fused and less dance hip hop.

    • The Legend Called Missy Elliott February 1, 2017

      Nah.

  12. Jay February 1, 2017

Ya’ll do realize that “I’m Better” isn’t an official single, right? When she announces “NEW SINGLE”, that’ll be it. “WTF” wasn’t a single. “I’m Better” isn’t a single. She just dropped a new song/video, same with WTF. They’re buzz tracks. She’s clearly testing the waters.

  13. @ASAPicon February 1, 2017

The new single is ok, But if thats the best from the album, keep working Missy, Dont rush it! Give us a MASTERPICE with Crazy memorable and nostalgic features….. (i.e. Ciara, beyonce, Eve?, Tweet, Nicole Ray etc…)
