Chart Check [Hot 100]: Ed Sheeran Scores Seventh Week at #1

Published: Thursday 16th Mar 2017 by Rashad

Ed Sheeran‘s comeback single, ‘Shape of You,’ has shaped up to be quite the unmovable hit.  Sharing billing with the less successful ‘Castle on the Hill’ as the dual lead release from his hotly selling third LP, ‘Divide,’ ‘Shape’ is proving to be the real tenant of the Hot 100 ‘castle.’

For, after topping the chart for six non-consecutive weeks, this week saw the tune etch its name in the #1 spot for a 7th by garnering the highest of all components that make up the chart’s placements:  digital song sales, streaming, and radio airplay.

Add to this, after becoming the first artist in history to debut two songs in the top 10 of the Hot 100, Sheeran now adds another unique history-making achievement to his growing tally.  Find out what inside:

According to Billboard:

13 of the 16 songs on the deluxe version of the album that have now appeared on the chart; all 12 tracks on the standard version of the album have hit the Hot 100.

…Sheeran claims all 10 of the Hot 100’s debuts this week, marking the highest amount of new entries all by one act, with no debuts by any other act, in a single week in the Hot 100’s history.

Same here. Everything is very basic. You can tell charts are more irrelevant than ever because tons of songs at the top don´t make any impact.

I’ve only heard 10 of the top 25 songs and that doesn’t include the number 1 song. Ed Sheeran is no Adele. She crosses over to urban and rhythmic easily. Adele is universal, Ed is just pop.

    YAWWWWNNNNNN

The fact that he wrote Shape of You for Rih (who obviously turned that sh*t down) is such a joke. The fact that it’s performing on the charts is an even sadder joke :/

Little girls are like country fans tho – they’ll buy anything
