Published: Tuesday 21st Mar 2017 by Nehemiah

With fans waiting in anticipation for Drake‘s ‘More Life‘ since the fall, its little surprise that the rapper is poised to have the biggest debut in 2017.

For, Drizzy’s 22-track “playlist”/mixtape/album hybrid has broken streaming records at both Spotify and Apple Music.

Full story below…

‘Life’ collectively gained 89.9 million streams globally in its first 24 hours of its release at Apple Music – a new single-day streaming record for any album on the Apple platform.

Over at Spotify, the 6-God collected the best first-day for an album on the service with 61.3 million global streams, beating previous record holder Ed Sheeran‘s ‘÷,’ which garnered 56.7 million streams worldwide.

Furthermore, Aubrey topped Sheeran yet again by setting a new record for single day streams on Spotify. The March 18th release generated 76.4 million streams to Ed’s 68.7 million streams.

A new day, a new slay for Aubrey.

Kudos!

      • Kae March 21, 2017

And BTW he still sampled her, so she’s still technically on it

  4. WRTW? March 21, 2017

I honestly don but understand why drake is so popular.

    • LISA LEVINE March 21, 2017

Why is drake Popular? He’s average to attractive. Looks good in photos, white people like him because he’s non-threatening and the hood likes his more urban records. DRAKE does not make waves, he makes danceable music and he is marketable. He’s not as talented as J.Cole but He is more marketable to the white community. Its like Why is Mariah Carey more successful than Whitney was — Its because Mariah was marketed to the white community. Sad but true.

      • XYZ March 21, 2017

Yeah, that’s why drakes fans are all white…which is not true

Stop making everything a white/black thing. Drake’s music is just way more mainstream than j.cole’s. J.cole chose to not be as mainstream. Weeknd is successful because he went more mainstream as well

As for Mariah, she has been putting out music in the 90ies as Rihanna did till unapologetic. And Whitney had that phase where she wasn’t “there”, remember?

      • MUSICHEAD March 21, 2017

I was with u until the Mariah vs Whitney part. Mariah only sold more records than Whitney because she released 3x more music than Whitney ever did. But trust and believe Whitney was just as if not more popular than Mariah during her run. And you are right about Drake. He is a pop artist and because the majority of music consumers are white, he will continue to stream and sell big numbers.

    Nicki Garbaj could never.

  6. Gee March 21, 2017

Honestly Drake can do no wrong at this point, even though I think that Drake has become stale and I do not see any evolution but that just goes to show that the masses will consume anything from certain artists and Drake is definitely one of them. Drake’s style is Ja Rule criteria early 00’s. The same style that the masses considered dated when 50 Cent became popular and then started using the same formula.

  7. Swit March 21, 2017

I don’t see the appeal in this soft dude

  8. Cupid March 21, 2017

Honestly something seems fishy. Drakes stats don’t make sense to me. They’re pulling strings behind the scenes.

    • Jeans March 21, 2017

I agree. Something seems fishy. Good for him though

  9. Lake Erie March 21, 2017

This album is his best to date.. I didn’t think he’d top views but he did. No skips.

  10. DanYiel Iman March 21, 2017

Yea Fake & Tricki Garbagh are TRASH! ♻️

  11. March 21, 2017

    gratz to him.

  12. RhiRocks March 21, 2017

I don’t like him but I’m glad be broke ed sheerens record cos that ginger guy was getting too big headed. The reason why drake is doing well is he isn’t considered a threat . Also he is only killing the streaming game not sales. Sales wise he is lacking

    • BEY>RIH March 21, 2017

He isn’t “lacking” sales wise especially for this day and age but he is no where near number one in that department..

      • RhiRocks March 21, 2017

Well actually he is lacking in sales too, he’s not been around for ten plus years, he’s from this generation he is still fresh so he should be selling 2mill pure copies in us alone but he no where near

  13. King B March 21, 2017

His 100th album broke record? When is he going to release his 1000th album? Early next month? Nicky broke records because of her 6383930 features. And he broke records because of his 738393030 albums per year. Well done!

  14. Beyoncé Jackson March 21, 2017

Say what you want about Rihanna… she dropped albums yearly but at least she had ERAS that made some sort of impact. Everyone’s pushing these albums out every few months, but everything runs together and makes no true impact.
Drake is over-saturating the market at this point. I understand that you have to stay relevant these days, but DAMN!
