Album Stream: Mary J. Blige – ‘Strength Of A Woman’

Published: Friday 28th Apr 2017 by Sam

Today marks the global release of Mary J. Blige‘s thirteenth studio album ‘Strength Of A Woman’.

The set, which features contributions from the likes of Missy Elliott, Jazmine Sullivan, Kanye West, and DJ Khaled, arrives at a dramatic time for the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul.

Indeed, as widely reported, Blige is in the midst of a mucky divorce from former manager Kendu Isaacs.

During the promotional rounds for the LP, she’s cited the creation of the project as being therapeutic for her after years of secretly suffering in her marriage.

And one listen of the LP highlights the hurt but also the triumph of realising one’s worth.

Every song’s vocals sound the same, forced emotion. Just listened to the CD, Still not on the level of Share My world, What’s the 411, Mary or My life. No where close.

No lie but this is one of her BEST albums period.
Her sound and core sound of R&B/Hip-Hop is at the forefront and she is delivering track after track. Thank You grabbed me the most on 1st listen but plenty of tracks to love on this project of truth and heatbreak.

    PUSH THROUGH LEGEND J. BLIGE

Okay, so I immediately downloaded this, this morning purely because it is MJB, However, I have to agree (reluctantly) with some of the other posts on here. MJB’s music is mature and probably aimed at ‘grown folks’ but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. It isn’t a bad record but in all honesty we have heard it all before from Mary and its beginning to sound a bit contrived.

In my personal opinion, I don’t think she will ever top 411, that was a classic, but this just sounds a little stale.

I need a ‘Family Affair’ again. Still mature, but it has some life to it!

    Mary’s best albums are:
    My Life
    Share My World
    Mary
    No More Drama
    Love&Life
    Breakthrough
    Growing Pains
I suggest these albums to anyone who’s never listened to her. Every album after growing Pains is just mediocre, this new one included. I love Mary but this album aside from like 2 or 3 songs just aren’t it. This will be the first Mary album I won’t buy.
