Brandy Previews New Song

Published: Wednesday 12th Apr 2017 by Sam

Brandy is baking new music and is offering up an early taste.

It’s been five years since the Vocal Bible released her ‘Two Eleven’ album and it’s been an uphill battle to produce a follow-up. Principally due to a much publisized legal tussle with her former record label.

With that drama in reported rearview, it’s all systems go for the roll-out of fresh material.

No word yet on the status of the as yet untitled set, but B-Rocka has taken to Instagram to share a snippet of what’s cooking.

Captioning the clip ‘Patterns,’ she teased with the following…

#Patterns

A post shared by b r ?n d Y (@4everbrandy) on

Come all the way through with those trademarked harmonies and that luscious layering.

Fingers crossed the album drops sooner rather than later. It’s been too, too long.

  7. Terra April 12, 2017

This is her sound and I’m here for it! All of the churchy hollering was cool but this right here is what made me fall in love with Brandy! Her influence in all over today’s R&B music.

    • Jasmine April 12, 2017

      Who exactly has Brandy influenced?

      • EBookbook April 12, 2017

Chris Brown jazmine Sullivan Jessie J The walls group etc. The ppl who are so ignorant to her influence or her success are childish as f***. Beyonce is not the only. You dont even listen to brandy to even ask that question. Im so tired of ppl commenting on a post about a person they don’t really pay attention to. You just wanna be shady all the time. Do you ever turn that s*** off because its getting old.

      • Jasmine April 12, 2017

I asked an honest question. The only one being shady is you. You want to read so much into a simple question that is not there at all. If Brandy has influenced other artists I am happy for her and the artists. I just wanted to know what artists exactly. Brandy stans like you ASSUME people are checking for Brandy or know what she has or has not done but you forget that is something only stans do when their fav is approaching irrelevancy. Same goes for the people calling her “vocal bible”. Perhaps explaining the reasons why you call her that along with song youtube links to songs which demonstrate her vocal abilities would help but yall would rather just claim that without providing reasons. The bigger divas all have huge hit signature songs that people are familiar with whereas Brandy does not so stop ASSUMING people are shading her when many cannot associate her with a huge solo hit. (Whitney: I Will Always Love You / Mariah – We Belong Together / Toni – Unbreak My Heart / Celine – I Will Always Go On / Beyonce – Irreplaceable / Brandy – ????????????)

      • Jay April 14, 2017

Why don’t you just say you are not sure who Brandy is? For you to sit her and say that you don’t know her hits is shady as F#^$. She was one of the top selling artists of the 90’s. A significant feat since the 90’s was saturated with tons of R&B acts. Brandy is and always will R&B royalty. Those that choose to dismiss are not fans of the music industry and its history. A simple google search would have answered your questions.
Her song The Boy Is Mine is also one of the longest running number one songs in the United States, and is one of the best selling duets of all time. In 1999, Billboard ranked Norwood among the top 20 of the Top Pop Artists of the 1990s.[145] In 2010, Billboard included Norwood in their Top 50 R&B and Hip Hop Artists list of the past 25 years.[146] Norwood was one of the youngest artists nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.[147] Her second album Never Say Never appeared in the “Top 100 Certified Albums” list by the RIAA.[148]
Norwood’s vocal stylings have had a significant impact on the music industry, most notably with contemporary R&B, pop and gospel genres, where she is often subjectively referred to as the “Vocal Bible”.[149] Her work has influenced numerous artists, including Jessie J,[150] JoJo,[150] Bridget Kelly,[150] Olivia,[150] Emeli Sandé,[150] Jordin Sparks,[150] Tank,[150] Teyana Taylor,[150] and Elle Varner,[150] while Norwood’s vocals have been praised by several of her peers, including Natasha Bedingfield,[150] Missy Elliott,[150] Jennifer Hudson,[150] Syleena Johnson,[150] Lil’ Mo,[150] Brian McKnight,[150] Jill Scott,[150] Angie Stone,[150] and Tamia.[150] Additionally, on many occasions, Norwood has been thought of as a talented artist that music producers and songwriters have used to enhance their own artistic and creative energies.[151][152]
Songwriter Sean Garrett credits the vocal work on the album Full Moon for his approach to writing, saying “I take a lot from what [Brandy] and Rodney did on the Full Moon album. I was extremely impressed with it and I always try to outdo that album”.[153] B.Slade spoke of the album, commenting Full Moon single-handedly changed the vocal game. “It has been the template for vocal choices and background vocal arrangements [for years].”[154] R&B singer Melanie Fiona, especially admired the singer’s work on that album.[155] Neo soul singer India.Arie often cites the album, particularly the song “He Is” as being the template for a wide array of singers.”[156] The oft-praised vocal work on the album sparked the idea of Norwood gaining the subjective nickname the “vocal bible”.[157][158][159] Canadian R&B singer Keshia Chanté credited the album for inspiring her writing for her album Night & Day, while American singer Luke James referred to Full Moon as the “bible” of 2000s contemporary R&B, calling it the “blueprint of how to do vocals.”[150]
Afrodisiac has been credited as one of predecessors to the Alternative R&B subgenre. In a 2014 music and fashion conversation with NPR, singer and model Solange discussed the album, saying “Brandy is really the foundation of a lot of this very innovative, progressive, experimental R&B. Brandy really influenced a lot of that. Frank Ocean will say it. Miguel will say it.”[160]

The track sounds dope, can’t wait for the album! And she is getting great reviews for her Kennedy Center performance of Roxie in Chicago. Must see!

  9. Liam April 12, 2017

    I love what I’m hearing….finally Bran ?

  10. Kennedy April 12, 2017

Garbage, i’ll pass. By the way, i’m starting to see why a lot of people don’t like her ass.

  11. Kim Kesha & Pam April 12, 2017

No thankyou. Bran’s dislike for Beyonce & feud with Monica made me have a huge distaste for her.

    • Terra April 12, 2017

Brandy is a huge Beyoncé fan. Yup she doesn’t like Monica and who gives a f***? Go listen to dry ass Code Red and play with yourself?

      • Kennedy April 12, 2017

B*******, because Brandy low key stays shading Bey. I use to follow her on Instagram, and she pulled that s*** every time.

From, Bey, to Kelly Rowland, to Monica. Coincidentally, all three are happily married with beautiful kids, while she’s lonely and miserable as fk.

      • truthteller April 12, 2017

Brandy clearly does as she keeps bringing Monica up. I guess she has no choice as The Boy Is Mine is one of the few things the general public remember her for.

    • gina April 12, 2017

so what, brandy isnt the only one who cant stand jay z’s overrated w****.

  12. XoMoDe April 12, 2017

    No, thank you.

  13. Dev April 12, 2017

I never understand half of these comments. Artists are not there to be you’re friends, there are there for music. IF Brandy & Monica are feuding, so what! There is a bunch of artists that i wouldn’t hang with but i respect what they do

    • Music is ev!l now, suk the soul out of you. April 12, 2017

Exactly, people don’t feel music any more, they feel fame. We was talking about if 2 Pac or Notorious B.I.G. was still alive today; they’ll be under the bus by now. SAD! The dev!l is a l!e.

  14. Casual April 12, 2017

I don’t like it — no discernible melody and not a hit. I hate IG snippets in general, especially when they don’t really help you get a solid feel for the song.

  15. Credits April 12, 2017

SHe also previewed ‘salvation and ‘here.’ This album will be solid. I just hope we get it soon cause I can’t take the teasing lol.

    • Smoove Jones April 12, 2017

She deleted the Salvation clip. I don’t know why.

      • MUSICHEAD April 12, 2017

Cuz it wasn’t her song. It’s a collaboration with another artist and she posted it without permission.

  16. SMH April 12, 2017

I still LMAO every time i hear folks call her that “vocal bible” nonsense.

  17. Ciah’s Turtle April 12, 2017

When I tell yall I CANNOT WAIT !!!!

  18. Vandrea April 12, 2017

Brandy is not a “vocal bible.” I don’t even know how that silly lie started. Her vocals have always had rather obvious flaws. She mumbles. Her tone is raspy and unclear. She has a tendency to croak and sing off the beat. Hell, half the time she sounds like a child with a cold. If all of that appeals to you, then sure she can be your “vocal bible,” I guess…but I like singers who actually sound good.

  19. 4everBrandy_Ci April 12, 2017

I’m here for this!!!!! This is why Brandy is one of the pioneers of r&b music period! She always had that unique and gifted vocal ability. As I read the comments it’s the usual hating trolls that always bird chirp about her personal life. But whatever if she’s a “bitter” person then whatever but when I finally saw her live in the FLESH at her concert in Maryland seriously this chick has always been one of my favorite artist. I’m thankful to appreciate and witness her gift because the climate of records having substance is lacking. People are use to the microwavable artist. I know Brandy doesn’t give a rat’s behind about sales or charts either because she DID it before and now she just wants to connect with her fans with new material. I’m digging the harmonies and vocals! She’s going to SNATCH with this new material. For Brandy to be of the many known r&b artist that continues to keep r&b where it needs to be and evolve she deserves to put some RESPECK on her name. Brandy always pushes her artistry to another level. I’m ready for the Vocal Bible to slay! #STARZ

    • Jasmine April 12, 2017

Nonsense. Brandy is only a “vocal bible” to toneless stans like you. You don’t speak for me or anyone else. Brandy does care about sales. She speaks on her low sales in many interviews and she walked out on a South African concert that flopped.

      • 4everBrandy_Ci April 12, 2017

Haha!!! You TRIED it. Of course you don’t understand the FACT she’s been relevant for this long. Only to still be known as one of the best in her generation. These new r&b artists right now a few of them have studied her artistry and acknowledged her impact. She’s the Vocal Bible regardless you say she isn’t. This climate of people with these damn “flop” remarks at artist that actually made an impact. Brandy at this point want to continue to connect with her fans. She will deliver another quality album with SUBSTANCE. And that comment about speaking for you? BYE and I only speak for myself. And “toneless” fans such as myself been supporting her since day one. And she doesn’t bring up album sales that much and is aware of the climate right now. R&B artists deserve to get the support but the market is oversaturated with garbage. You can say what you want but this woman has made a contribution.

      • Jasmine April 12, 2017

Voices come and go and I would say Brandy’s voice has declined alot (she sounds like a cigarette smoker). People used to say Whitney Houston was “The Voice” and everyone knows her vocal power declined tremendously after 2003 so STOP setting Brandy up for failed expectations!

  20. DanYiel Iman April 12, 2017

I love her tones just want to hear it completely…?

  21. S****** Blonde April 12, 2017

    This sounds promising.

  22. RoyalKev April 12, 2017

Brandy’s music still gives me the craziest chills! It’s such a spiritual experience at times! She’s so calming for the spirit! I am always ready for new Brandy ! Always!

  23. Beverly Whittaker April 12, 2017

Yes Brandy we mis you welcome back sunshine welcome back enjoy have a bless great time with your music and voice ?

  24. DTG April 13, 2017

“Come all the way through with those trademarked harmonies and that luscious layering.”

What a joke. Brandy is a studio singer, if I ever heard one.

  25. Justmeeeee April 13, 2017

    #Team Brandy

    The Vocal BIBLE !!!!!

    #Fact

  26. JustLivin April 14, 2017

It’s weird..everytime I come to a link on this site regarding Brandy majority is hate and dislike for her. Maybe it’s others to..idk… But no not everyone is suppose to like her but is the base of the site meant for shade?? It’s like this is where people click to spill hate and I get to thinking… I just can’t see myself stopping on a sight to write a paragraph about someone I dislike so much or claim is so irrelevant. I think I’d just skip over it. .. hey everyone is entitled so I for one am happy to hear a new Brandy album and I believe in her talent. All the other stuff shouldn’t matter when it comes to the music. Give her another chance she’s human.
