BET & Twitter To Launch Study Into #BlackTwitter

Published: Wednesday 17th May 2017 by David

As far as social media groups go, Black Twitter undoubtedly stands as one of net’s (and Pop culture’s) longest and strongest reigning force.

How one might define it?

A digital water cooler where African Americans exchange ideas and opinions that are centered on the Black experience.

Often sourced, but never compensated, for the ideas it generates for brands and publications, Black Twitter and its influence haven’t gone unnoticed by Twitter itself who- eager to understand just how influential it truly is- has teamed up with BET to launch a comprehensive study into it.

The businesses will unveil their findings next month.

Why do you think corporations are keen to bite into Black Twitter’s digital pie?

Influential only in America, the rest of the world is not interested/doesn’t care.

    • I can’t May 17, 2017

The rest of the world isn’t supposed to be interested. Because it’s not for them. It’s not about them. It’s not targeted towards them. It doesn’t reference them. It’s not contextualized in a way that is applicable to their collective realities. Obviously black Americans on twitter are vocalizing black American issues that are specific to the black American experience in the context of “their world”. which is different from everyone else’s “world”. That’s literally the point of black twitter…

        Isn’t supposed?…It doesn’t, period.

    • Factz4u May 17, 2017

Lmao. Please Black American culture touches and influences almost if not every part of the globe. If you can’t see that it’s because of ignorance ?

      • S****** Blonde May 17, 2017

That’s what being an American makes you believe.

Lies you tell! Look at the fashion industry and how much they bite off of thing(s), which stems directly from black Twitter. I know in the UK, tat is definitely the case.

S****** bum…Ironically you are the FIRST to comment which totally validates Viacom’s point.

White people care A LOT about what we think and by virtue of your trolling on this BLACK blog site, clearly you do too.

So Thanks for the compliment 🙂

South Africa too has a strong and influential black Twitter community probably so does every African country but I suppose since South Africa has the largest white population on the continent it makes it most interesting.

I understand the concept behind a group who ujite around a common experience, but the delusion that somehow black twitter is some driving force behind American culture is just plain delusional. You can’t complain that blacks aren’t selling records, not getting decent movie roles, etc etc and at the same time claim that you’re the most culturally relevant. It’s simply illogical. The fairness of that however is a different conversation altogether.

I think S****** Blonde makes a very good point. “Black Twitter” is focused on the African American experience alone I’d say when America is one country and Blacks populate around 60 other nations in the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and of course, Africa. I think Afro-Americans need to be reminded that they’re called such because they originate from Africa; they need more connection to the wider Black experience and not just the USA.

Racist American’s will do anything to make it not mean something, isn’t that the Caucasian way of life? I’ve witnessed it daily! Always find a way to belittle any cause that is centered around a specific group of people that means something & it feels to be Afro-Unapologetic about the lives who aren’t cookie cutter faces…..

A study into buffoons acting out on social networks because they’re bitter and have too much time doing a whole lot of nothing. Hmm. The only people who need to study “Black Twitter” are licensed psychiatrists.

If they’re going to talk about black Twitter, talk about the bad as well as the good! Black Twitter tears down everything and everyone, even it’s own. It’s not a culture impact, it’s a culture setback. Black Twitter makes the news for the most negative things they say on social media and the things that they should talk about (Black graduates, blackgayslay, young black doctors, Greek life, uplifting the community, unison) NEVER makes headlines. Black Twitter is most likely the people who voted for the dead gorilla and Hennessy this part election, the people who think Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Boat are the new age of rap, Beyonce twins are importan and BLM is actually important.

    • Caleb May 17, 2017

BLM is important. Get over it.

“Black” Twitter is a joke and an exploration into failed parenting.  It’s basically lunch table brattiness, acting out for attention and losers trying to forget being losers with a 140 character tweet.  Those same people have no power anywhere else but on a phone that they aren’t even paying for themselves. Sad.

    • Caleb May 17, 2017

Way to stereotype a bunch of people you know nothing about. Let me stereotype you and guess you are probably a Trump voter.
