Katy Perry Unveils ‘Witness’ Album Cover

Published: Thursday 18th May 2017 by Sam

Katy Perry appears to have shock and awe on the menu for her fourth studio album ‘Witness.’

Case in point the set’s newly unwrapped cover. Check it out above.

With an eye in her mouth, it would seem the singer plans to expand on topics beyond her usual fun theatrics. A plausible explanation given the political sway of lead single ‘Chained To The Rhythm.’

*********

To keep it 100%, this looks like a hot mess. Even though it’s clear to see what she was going for.

Thus far, the era feels awkward, lacking direction and oddly executed.

Will the music be its savior. The answer arrives when ‘Witness’ does on June 9th.

First Katy Perry album I’ll listen to, but it will go down as her most unsuccessful. This will be her “4”, her “Artpop” her “Rated R”. This album may have substance but she wont experience a number one hit like in years past.

Sorry, but Rated R is not in that category. That album was a significant era. I love Bey but you were dead on with the rest.

4 debuted at number 1 in several countries and went platinum

      • gina May 18, 2017

and still flopped with no hits.

NOT a beyonce fan. But “4” was solid, everyone from my mother to my little sister knows the words to those songs.

If an album sells to current industry-standards for what is considered successful, then it is not a flop because it produced no hit songs. That’s like saying Norah Jones didn’t kick everybody’s ass with her Diamond-certified Come Away With Me album, simply because it didn’t spin-off any high charting singles. Singles exist for the purpose of promoting/selling the album that they are cut from. If the album can sell without benefit of a hit, then nothing is lost.

In 2011, like today, if an album went platinum, it was a success. 4, by Beyonce, accomplished that feat. By that bottom line, the album was a success. If it failed by any means, it was in comparison to the sales of her prior album…but even that’s anecdotal, because – again – the measure is where the marker *currently* is. Furthermore, according to Billboard, any song that peaks inside the Top 40 is considered a hit. 4 had three singles that did that. So everything you just said was wrong.

Katy Perry and Capitol Records will breathe a heavy sigh of relief if her album does the numbers of 4. She will not, however, be in a good place if it produces three number one singles, but the album fails to sell a million copies. See how that works? Her job is to sell albums for her label for $10.99, not singles for $1.29.

@Cbeylive compared to Beyonce’s other albums, 4 was a let down. Not with sales but with creativity. But I understand because she was pregnant. It still is a bomb album tho

Looks for like a single cover to a specific record, rather than album cover. Just my opinion tho

This cover is a hot ass mess. It looks like a revamp from “Prism” with the rainbow. I feel like this pick was thrown out at the last possible minute. Tho I’ve hated the imagery and visuals so far, I like Chained and her snippet of “Scared To Die”. “Scared To Die” is the only reason why I’m even listening to this album, it sounds like experimental R&B. And to the people saying this will be her “4”, that album for me was the very first Beyoncé album I could listen to straight through, no skips, and sing ALL the lyrics and adlibs. That album is one my good memories from high school. The videos were crap but the body of work was her best with no fillers. Her other 3 albums were single driven, “4” was a musical masterpiece. Never understood why people drew more to the over rated “I Am…Sasha Fierce” than 4, and I actually love both Records. 4/BEYONCÉ/Lemonade. Beyonce has no other albums, end of discussion.

No you didn’t say you were in high school when 4 was out…

Her trying to give off this try-hard “edgy” look while releasing the same immature bubblegum pop music ?
Both she and Lorde will bomb
