As if reaching 4x platinum status in the United States and topping the singles charts of over 30 countries at its height wasn’t enough, Ed Sheeran‘s comeback hit – ‘Shape of You’ – is still helping the singer reshape Spotify and Hot 100 history books months after its debut.
That’s right, after smashing 1 day streaming records for Spotify, the tune has become the third song ever to reach the “1 billion streams” mark on the platform (first ever by a solo male vocalist). Add to this, ‘Shape’ – which spent 12 non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 – is still in the top 5 this week. Actually moving back up charts, Billboard reports:
Ed Sheeran‘s former 12-week Hot 100 No. 1 “Shape of You” rebounds 5-4, and extends its record for the most weeks spent in the top five from a song’s debut, having now collected its first 22 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top five, dating to its arrival at No. 1 (Jan. 28).
Congratz are in order for Sheeran. Now, tuck in below to see who joins the redhead hitmaker in this week’s refreshed ‘TGJ Chart Check.’
