Predictions Are In: Katy Perry’s ‘Witness’ Set To Sell…

Published: Saturday 10th Jun 2017 by Rashad

Katy Perry‘s set to bear witness to her name atop the Billboard 200 yet again.

The singer/songwriter – whose latest era has admittedly not been greeted with nearly the same amount of buzz its predecessors have – caused worry among her faithful #Katycats releasing it with no #1 Hot 100 hits to antecede (the first time this has happened since Perry’s been on a major label).

Yet, with a massive promo campaign that’s seen her now not only showcase the music on major platforms worldwide (and a few big business players in pocket), the moves seem to have saved what was surely on course to be a poor opening week.

Curious to see how many units Katy’s fifth official LP will shift? Look inside:

‘Witness’ Predicted 1st Week Sales:  200-225,000 SPS

Pure Sales:  175-200,000

If the predictions above ring true, ‘Witness’ will bear Perry the second best first week sales of her career (second to the 286,000 her 4th LP, ‘Prism,’ moved in 2013).

*****

Not great (for an artist who has almost literally used every platform known to man to promote it), but all-in-all very consistent with her overall sales track record.

How this will spell in the long-term, however, will be the more interesting narrative.  It’s no secret Katy’s strongest suit has always been the digital sale of singles.  So, if even her best-selling projects have struggled to reach the double and triple platinum thresholds with tons of hit singles to support them, what does that say for ‘Witness’ which can’t claim the same?

    OOP ??

  2. Gee June 10, 2017

Not bad considering the buzz was barely there and she has had no hit singles from this era thus far. Honestly some artists are not selling those numbers at all.

    • Me June 19, 2017

Katy Perry’s chained to the rhythm was a hit it wasnt as big as her previous lead singles but it still reached #4 on the billboard chart.

  3. G7Pat June 10, 2017

    Flop era but she’ll survive

  4. Theman June 10, 2017

Great album sales & she didn’t even have hit. Very very good numbers…..

  5. Achooo! June 10, 2017

As I predicted she did well. Her cd is really good

  6. Meme June 10, 2017

This is very good numbers for a single artist. Katy has never been a strong 1st week album seller, much like Rihanna her albums have long runs and go in to sell well due do multiple well performing singles. I’m excited to see what she releases.

  7. kiki June 10, 2017

That’s because of her ticket bundle deal. Without it, she wouldn’t even crack 100k. Can’t wait for the second week drop.

    • Carlitos June 10, 2017

      Those aren’t included, dumb ass!

      • kiki June 10, 2017

        They are, trash!

  8. submissive June 10, 2017

Poor Little Monsters, Katy and Rihanna always shatter their dreams.

    • Jon June 12, 2017

Ya because the hack included an album with tour ticket purchase…But hey, gotta get those numbers up to defend that flop of an album. Also, Joanne isn’t worried…debuted at #1 AND managed 201k sales (without giving the album away).

    • Me June 19, 2017

Poor Katy rats now Katy can’t even have her basic songs reach the top 40 bon appetite and swish swish are tanking ?

    • Me June 19, 2017

Poor Katy rats now Katy can’t even have her basic songs reach the top 40 bon appetite and swish swish are tanking ? Not to mention gaga recently shattered karts record for most viewed Superbowl performance.

  9. Islandboi242 June 10, 2017

Kill em Katy!! Swish Swish Bish

    • Fancy BISH June 10, 2017

      Taylor and Kendrick – 1
      Katy and Nicki – 0
      Game over lol

  10. The Side Eye of RA June 10, 2017

Do these numbers include copies of the album given away as part of the ticket purchases? Does anyone know?

    • Liam June 10, 2017

      Nah billboard don’t include those

    • whut June 11, 2017

Yes they do. Billboard already said weeks ago when her tour went on sale that the ticket bundle will count towards her first week sales.

      • Truth June 11, 2017

This what Britney Spears should do

  11. Metzo June 10, 2017

That’s Consistent with her previous albums numbers.
I mean not everybody can do Beyonce #s without a #1 hit.

    • Beingmeiz June 10, 2017

Must you mention your granny. This post has nothing to do with her ?????????

      • HoldUp June 11, 2017

Let’s not front here. You know damn well if Beyonce had posted those numbers y’all would be up and through this comment section dragging her through the mud.

  12. S****** Blonde June 10, 2017

Let’s be honest here, this is more than good, considering the state of music sales and her decline as a single force, I was expecting her to do 75-80k first week, if anything this proves that she has a loyal fan base, and that she won’t go anywhere anytime soon, the music industry is in such a bad stage that mediocre artists survive and can have a long career just like the legends, it says a lot about millennials, after all music consumers are what keeps them on the spotlight, in one way of another, in the 90’s her career wouldn’t have lasted 2 years with all that mediocrity.

    • Casual-T June 10, 2017

Before I read the number, I predicted 75k too. I think these are great sales considering that her last two singles are connecting.

    • JOHNVIDAL June 11, 2017

      I agree on everything @s******

    • Jon June 12, 2017

It’s all because she gave the album away with tour ticket purchase. Billboard confirmed they’ll include those albums. She would be nowhere near those numbers without that stunt.

  13. Jamie June 10, 2017

Maybe this will show her she doesn’t have to change herself to be supported.

  14. Liam June 10, 2017

Kudos to her but she usually does long term marketing with her albums so she will be fine.

  15. Fancy BISH June 10, 2017

Billboard DOES IN FACT include tour bundles…The Chainsmokers debuted at #1 with the aid of a tour bundle…I’m still trying to figure out if Katy’s numbers include it…
    http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7760506/the-chainsmokers-memories-album-debuts-at-no-1-on-billboard-200
“Memories’ sales launch was aided by a concert ticket/album bundle sale redemption promotion with the duo’s tour, which kicked off on April 13 in Miami. The ticket/album offer was also included with select dates of the act’s residency at the XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas.” -Billboard

She actually has a goodbye album. “Power” & “Tsunami” are absolutely to die for. I feel she wanted to engage with the urban (black) community, than those two would’ve worked better than “Bon Appetite” or any amigo feature because it’s comes off as trying to hard!

    • Ace June 11, 2017

That’s what I said!!! I’m black and truthfully I’ve never been an extreme Katy Perry fan! Dont get me wrong I’ve always respected her hustle with her singles in the past but up til now I’ve never heard a single Katy album from beginning to end but Witness did exactly what it was suppose to do. She successfully created URBAN POP! I loved every song from beginning to end. She found a way to reach out to the urban community while still staying true to her Pop core and that VOICE!!!!! She sounds sooooo good!!! Actually showing people that she can really sing!!! Although I think she is not a great performer one thing I can say is she always sounds great live except on Bon Appetit Lol She sounds horrible on that live. But at the end of the day she found a way to successfully tap into my community and for that this album is A+

  17. Fancy BISH June 10, 2017

    These

  19. Mar June 10, 2017

    Pendulum is nice. ??

  20. AmbeRussell June 10, 2017

Bruno mars did similar numbers with a bigger hit. She’ll be OK bc there e better songs on the album

  21. iSpeakTruthNoFallacy June 10, 2017

C’mon people, Katy is buying her own albums! This is a known industry practice especially from well established artists who are afraid of damaging numbers. I personally like Katy but let’s keep it ONE HUNNID. She’s done! Riddle me this, if you can’t even get people to go out and stream, let alone but, a 99 cent single then how will you get people to spend $12 on a physical sale? Another once Uber successful poptart did the exact same thing his year.

    • S****** Blonde June 10, 2017

      That was Gaga.

      • JOHNVIDAL June 11, 2017

S****** Be nice. Either artists do it or don´t do it. It can not be just Gaga. Let it go. Also, another proof that this mainstreampop audiences only like crap normally nowadays is that Gaga´s The Cure, the most generic and worst overall song she has released since The Fame and that doesn´t belong to any album, is doing better on itunes than any of her songs since Applause, except for Million Reasons of course. Charts and most people´s taste now are terrible.

      • Killian June 11, 2017

Wow of late you seem to keep it real kudos @suicideblonde ….in other news I’m surprised with all the bad press Katy’s been getting you would think she’s flopping album wise and she clearly isn’t.

    • Jon June 12, 2017

This girl is also handing out the album with ticket purchases…which billboard will count. TRAGIC!

  22. Via June 10, 2017

This b**** is buying up her own records. Her was begging her fans to have streaming parties.

  23. Theman June 10, 2017

You have a choice to get the ticket bundle. You aren’t forced to.. Her marketing/team is great. She would have still sold 6 figures regardless. The fans obviously wanted the album, if it were included in the bundle & they decided to get it. Great numbers all around. Who’s bringing up Beyoncé? She ain’t really scoring big hits. And her album was a marketing ploy in itself..

    • Patti LaBelle June 11, 2017

Marketing ploy or not, the fact that she still sells more albums than most of the big wig females in pop music WITHOUT a big hit is impressive in itself. Katy couldn’t even outsell Lemonade’s second or third week sales and she had a top 4 worldwide hit. Beyonce’s self titled sold 5 million, more than Prism 4 million with a moderate hit (Drunk in Love) and her so called flop album 4 sold the same amount as Prism 4 million as well. Say what you want, she’s still a better seller. Maybe Katy and the others should hire her as a marketing agent for them?

  24. Fancy BISH June 10, 2017

So SZA is #1 and Katy is #2 on ITunes Albums right now…interesting lol #JusSayin

    • Oh June 10, 2017

      SZA is the truth!

  25. Applause???? June 10, 2017

Sam… PRISM was Her 3rd Album..
    Get Your Facts Right?? Smh

    • Truth June 11, 2017

4th. Your forgetting her 2001 album
But 3d album as katy perry

  26. whut June 11, 2017

The ticket bundling saved her first week. That next week drop isn’t gonna be pretty.

  27. JOHNVIDAL June 11, 2017

What? I find this impossible. It is way more than what anybody could expect after what has happened since the beginning of the campaign and her zero hits. I´m surprised. Let´s see if this are the final numbers too though.

  28. I HATE WHITE n BLACK BIT..,,,HES June 11, 2017

She calls people nword and refuse to stop when told.
