Watch: Clark Sisters Respond To Jay Z & Beyonce’s Sample of Their Music on ‘4:44’

Published: Saturday 1st Jul 2017 by Rashad

With decades of timeless crossover hits to their credit, Gospel royals The Clark Sisters are no strangers to not only impacting generations of gospel music lovers, but also hearing their influence expand to countless R&B, soul, and even hip-hop stars.

As their enduring legacy has seen shoutouts from top divas Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, & Mary J. Blige to samples of their gospel hits found in tunes from the likes of Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, and many more, fans were pleasantly surprised to learn Beyonce and Jay Z recently added their names to the list of high profile stars giving the Clarks their due nods.

The Hollywood power couple recently sampled the group’s tune ‘Ha Ya (Eternal Life)’ for ‘Family Feud’ – a personal collaboration on Jay’s ‘4:44’ album that dishes on the Carter family life and even addresses rumored infidelity.  And, while Twitter absolutely exploded at the reference (immediately picking up the Clarks distinct sound from the sample), the legends themselves had quite the interesting weigh in to add to the hoop-la.

Look below for their responses:

Wow!!! who would’ve thought this phenomenal Artist would use our songs. Thank you Jay Z & @beyonce ????

Stop being disrespectful because obvious Jay and Bey know who they are. Legends loving other legends, paying respect and homage to their music. Stans like you are what gives Bey a bad rep.

I’m embarrassed that I don’t know who they are and I’m a big music head. What is there most popular song? Everyone keep calling them legends and I’ve never heard of them.

I love the Clark Sisters! Those vocals and those harmonies! My favorite song by them is Miracle. And I love Kierra Sheard too. When I heard what she and Rodney Jerkins did on “You Don’t Know” in 2005, I bought the album right way and was not disappointed.

They’re reacting as if God is glorified in this song when really Jay-Z is glorifying himself and Beyonce with vain lyrics about them being billionaires and feeding their children liquid gold. Really? God is not about material wealth; His word is about spiritual wealth.

Read the lyrics to the actual song because they apparently went over your head. Their happiness and gratitude comes from working so hard and finally being appreciated, not just by the church but by everyone. For DECADES they were unappreciated because they were women who pushing gospel forward but men are more dominant and sold more back in the day. Let them have their moment, they’ve worked hard and now are being given flowers.

Jay didnt use the sample, Beyonce sang all the parts over n added some extra parts, twinkie clarke only got writing credits. Its cheaper to sing songs over than to use the sample so most artist sing the parts over.
