For, the singer has just been announced as host of the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.

Perry made the announcement literally seconds ago on Twitter, branding herself as a MoonWoman:

On her enlistment, the starlet said:
“I’ve been training with MTV in zero gravity, eating astronaut ice cream, and I’m on a group text with Buzz Aldrin and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Come August 27th, I’ll be ready to be your MOONWOMAN! Brace for impact, kids.”
Bruce Gillmer, Head of Music and Music Talent, Viacom added:
“We’re thrilled to have global phenomenon Katy Perry as the host and a performer at the 2017 VMAs,” “She is at the forefront of music culture and the perfect person to anchor this year’s show, which promises to be one of the most diverse and music-filled in VMA history.”
Perry is nominated for five awards – a feat which sees her tied for 2nd most honors of the night alongside The Weeknd. Kendrick Lamar leads with eight.
The 2017 VMAs take place live on August 27th from The Forum in Los Angeles.

This is a significant lifeline for the 32 year old given the lacklustre sales of current album ‘Witness.’ Especially as any such hosting gig will bring with it a performance slot too.

It has been kind of shocking to see her flop all of a sudden like this. I k new it had to happen eventually, especially when an artist like her is so… mediocre. But still it has been way way more abrupt and sooner than what anybody expected. I hope Rihanna follows cause she is as mediocre as Katy.
Well, both make more interesting and diverse music than Boreline. Once you heard 1 Boreline song, you heard them all. They are all generic, hollow, overplayed, pathetic, cheesy, boring, cringeworthy ballads with no substance. No wonder critics consider her music a big fat joke despite her voice (which btw is very nasal, unappealing and unlistenable live). Not to mention that she is the least influential out of her peers. Celine is basically nothing but numbers. Madonna, Mariah, Janet, Whitney are all ahead of her in that department.
Rihanna has you so pressed I love it! She’s not going anywhere honey! She’s doing major things just got her 9 UK number 1 and very close to her 15th number one in the US! Just met with the freaking French President so sit down!

It’s sad that in the music business we’re your selling a product, people who proclaim their love for you would rather stream your product and stand behind that.
Despite flopping hard with her album, one thing you have to admire about her – she is unstoppable, the b**** literally promotes everywhere. She did a huge amount of promo in the US, the UK, France, Germany, Australia. Her peers like Lady Gaga and Rihanna only promoted in the US and the UK (Rihanna only 3 times altogether – BBMAs, VMAs, Brit Awards, Gaga intensively – SNL, Carpool Karaoke, The Grammys, Coachella, Super Bowl, UK X Factor). Only Taylor Swift beats Katy in that aspect.

What is Celine’s influence on music? She brought nothing new to table and was actually following in Whitney’s and Mariah’s footsteps and trademark. Her music is one-dimensional and overplayed. Barely anyone cites her as an influence and she is always an afterthought unlike Mariah/Whitney, prime influences to girls with pipes. I’ve never heard any artist saying ‘I am influenced by __________ (Celine’s album/song)’. Like, even Anti influenced the work by other artists. Lorde’s Liability was influenced by Higher. Camila Cabello said her new album will be influenced by Anti, so did Deadboy by mentioning Work. Rude boy influenced Jessie J’s Do It Like a Dude. Teenage Dream by Katy Perry had some influence on Taylor’s 1989. Whitney brought back ballads and divas with voices. Mariah made popular melisma/r&b-hip-hop collaboration. Janet and Madonna impacted music videos/performing style/visuals. Celine? No one draws from her music/craft. She can sell trillions of albums, she still lacks any influence.
This is actually very VERY true. Despite Celine being the 2nd biggest selling female artist in history, her impact & influence is extremely low. That’s why I call her the greatest karaoke singer of all time. Nothing about her was original, groundbreaking or unique. And I agree, mostly all the top girls don’t copy her style of singing or sound because she doesn’t really have a signature sound. Celine was just a big voice but with nothing inside. Nice lady tho. Whitney Houston is the most influential vocalist of all time, even surpassing Aretha imo.
Omg I’ve literally never seen so many haters. Y’all do realize that regardless of her recent album sales, SHE WILL ALWAYS be one of the world’s most successful pop stars. She has sold many records and had broken many records. Katy may be lacking in selling her latest album, but she has a pipeline, and it’s only getting better for her.

They’re speaking of her total career achievements since 2008…not just the last year when her popularity declined…but I have noticed that White folks don’t ignore/disregard they’re pop stars’ past achievements/success and give them plenty of opportunities to make a comeback..unlike a majority of R&B and hip hop fans.
This just shows me that she will do literally anything. Resorting to hosting award shows now? I guess.
