Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN’ Album Certified Double Platinum

Published: Monday 24th Jul 2017 by Sam

Kendrick Lamar‘s status as a formidable Hip-Hop force is officially undeniable.

The rapper’s fourth studio ‘DAMN’ landed in April and has, just three months later, reached a huge commercial milestone.

Dive below fore details…

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) have awarded the star a Double Platinum plaque for the LP.

In a testament to the power of the streaming age, the feat is for the movement of 2 million sales-plus-streaming units. As of this month, the pure sales tally for the set is 690,000.

The project’s performance is powered by the success of singles ‘DNA’ and ‘Humble’ – the latter of which became Lamar’s first solo #1.

Sales look set to rise as the 30-year-old continues on his ‘DAMN Tour.’

So basically he’s Gold in pure sales. Sorry, not here for the cheating curve known as streaming.

Even back in the day there were albums certified Platinum without selling 1 million copies based on shipments. Kendrick’s album is selling better than most everyone’s at the moment. At least his plaques were earned through combined streams, sales, etc. and not from a billion-dollar phone company buying a million copies from the jump.

very well deserved! Kendrick is one of only maybe three prolific lyricists and true hip-hop artists of our modern day.

Aside from J Cole who else?

As much as I adore Kendrick as an artist, we have to stop lying about numbers. 679K is gold and if the RIAA wants to include streaming it’s time to change what it takes to become certified from actual physical sells or unreturned paid for albums.
    Suggestion
    100K-299K(Silver)
    300K-499K(Gold)
    500K-1Million(Platinum)

Exactly, Streaming should be lessened. You can’t mix singles with sales. It’s fraudulent. Those are good sales for that short span..

Super proud of this one man. We must celebrate our exceptional talents. I must admit, prior to Damn I’ve never listened to a Kendrick album in it entirety. You have to win me and my coins over…and he did just that with this album. I just hope the Grammys recognize that were not exception just Best rap album, we need Album of the Year.

690 000 is Gold NOT Platinum! Why are people overrating this guy? Lol He is good & I like “Humble” but it is not Platinum… Nice music though

According to the rules his album is double platinum. That’s just the way it is.
