The Numbers Are In! Sevyn Streeter’s ‘Girl Disrupted’ Sold…

Published: Sunday 16th Jul 2017 by David

Sevyn Streeter‘s new LP ‘Girl Disrupted’ has opened with a modest opening week number this week.

Stifled by the fact that it is yet to be released physically, the digital set impacted the Billboard 200 with 4,351 units and slid into action at #31.

Alas, her numbers see her stand as one of many acts to face slim digits this week with over half of the Top 50’s occupants moving less than 10,000 copies of their respective projects in the last chart week.

Why do you think sales have taken such a hit?

well damn…She’ll be getting dropped soon. It’s sad, because I actually like Seveyn and her new single and video are hot. However, this is ALL the label’s fault. She had NO momentum whatsoever to release an album. The label should’ve released her project after It Wont Stop not in 2017 outta nowhere. Also, where was her promo campaign? Man these white A&R’s don’t SHAT I tell ya

“Call Me Crazy But” should’ve been her debut album. It took her four whole years to come up with GD and most of the songs are crap. Any hype she had died years ago. Not surprised by the numbers at all…..

    • NT July 16, 2017

all facts this should’ve been her third album the ep’s could’ve stood alone.

    • CW July 16, 2017

Exactly. Sad thing is the two EPs actually had HITS FOR DAYS, while the album had no viable single options.

    • Drinkmybussyjuice July 16, 2017

All true. As someone who has followed her for years i said this too. I thought “shoulda been there” pt 1 was so dope. This album there are only three aongs that i play. “Ol school, been a minute, and peace sign” i use to bumb my love for you. Not sure why she put that on the album seeing as it came out so long ago. Overall im really not pleased with this. Eap after waiting so long for it. Smh. This year is the year for displeasing albums. Katy, jojo, now her.

    LMFAO wow

  4. Kendrick Slaymar July 16, 2017

The album is crap and only has one good song.

    • Fancy BISH July 16, 2017

      How did she manage to
      A. Get a Whitney Houston sample in the FIRST place! Her whole budget was that lol
      B. Make that ish sound mediocre.
      How Sway? lol ?

  5. Fancy BISH July 16, 2017

Before I Do is nice….Fallen is atrocious lol…but thank GOD I was a teenager in the 90’s buying all those BOMB R&B albums….all of them going AT LEAST Gold, but MANY Platinum and Multiplatinum….lawd, what da hell happened? Her voice is better than this material, but you couldn’t tell from the autotune…and Drake really made everything sound like him lol…these kids wouldn’t know a good song from a hole in the wall…oh well…flopping hard out here in these streets…and social media is a joke…none of these fans “buy”….maybe they go to shows…but it’s weird…the mystery is gone….these artists are regular as all hell lol…I’m ranting, but it’s crazy…even TLC album was wack lol…make it STOP…da FLOPS!

Hmmm there really was no promo for this album so I’m not surprised. The album quality could have been much better Sevyn SMH. I kinda wish she would have taken more of the “my life” Mary J blige approach with her album. Did the 90s sampled songs in a more clever way and not so many random guest spots.

    • Fancy BISH July 16, 2017

Yaaaaaaaaas! There’s an ART to sampling and interpolating…..you have to make sure that the NEW melodies, production and harmonies are strong enough to blend with the classic melodies…MARY is obviously THE QUEEN of making it work perfectly….Mary did get criticism for it back in the day tho..but my PARENTS are DAY ONE fans of hers and loved the samples…My Life was a family album…when I bought it my whole family was in the car BUMPING it lol….yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas lawd

Why would y’all even make a post about this. It’s so distasteful. Do you ever think about how the artist feel? We all knew she wouldn’t sell well but she did her best. We all know the struggles black female artist have in the industry.

Nobody cares! This is the entertainment biz. Only the strong survive.

    • AmbeRussell July 16, 2017

Well she already knows how bad it did so they reported. They reported about everything else she does, why not about the album sales?

  8. Sam July 16, 2017

The album is diabolical and i think that the label released it out of duty. I expected better from Seven vocally and song wise but was very disappointed and the use of Faith Evans and New Edition were so bad she shouldn’t have bothered.

If you’re not a hot rapper, a big crossover artist (Ed Sheeran, Adele), or a legacy act, you have no chance of garnering big album sales. Streaming has effectively killed album sales. These numbers are mediocre, but not a surprise considering the lack of promotion and the general sales climate for an artist of her genre.

  10. Theman July 16, 2017

She doesn’t get any promo, no hit single nor does she have a physical album out, which would have brought in most of her sales……

  11. Theman July 16, 2017

If you don’t move units or if you aren’t a major artist the label doesn’t care. They just threw her album out there anyway.

  12. Et July 16, 2017

I just want to say first and foremost Sevyn Streeter Ecxellent job on this album, I hope you read this. I support you and your work. Ive played more than half your album (8 songs) and my people really jackin it. I wish people would get it, I hope you get the chance to put out more bomb music. Keep pushing this project the world might not hear what we hearing right Now. It’s just got to get play let them hear “all my love” over that’s on repeat fire ? I wasn’t looking for Whitney on that I was looking for Sevyn and you delivered and the cherry on the pie was finding out it was a Whitney sample. Peace Sign – Translation – Fallen – Anything U Want – How Many and my favorite I wish was a single Before I Do . #MoreSevyn #MoreMusic #MoreLife

  13. iCritic July 16, 2017

Lawd dem sunken place ass sales. ??

  14. Jeans July 16, 2017

Wow. Poor Sevyn. I like her but there was only one promo I recall which was performing on Wendy. And that ain’t saying much. Rooting for her.

It’s frustrating how artists are not being properly supported from their label. She’s unique and should get her shine. I heard her ep’s and honestly her debut is what it is. I wanted her to have less features because she’s capable of standing on her own. She definitely has vocals and I think her debut was too much filled with features and the production is too much oversaturated with what’s on the airplay. It’s a challenge for these r&b artist because of course this is a new era and artist need to cater to their core audience. However there’s a lack of ARTISTRY and substance. She sampled a few 90s records but I wanted for her to put out more of her OWN material. A sample of two records or maybe three is fine. But overall her eps had more of her lane. The label probably wanted her to ditch what she started on her eps to have more of this “current” of records. I think they didn’t understand her point of view. And she really needs support but it’s frustrating to see how these artist don’t have support from their label. She will continue to promote this album since it’s released. And I think she’ll tour again just to get people aware it’s out.

  16. Frank July 16, 2017

Ole girl might have to rethink cutting it short

  17. Caleb July 16, 2017

WELL damn, if that’s the case tLc should’ve releases a week later. They would have debuted higher.

    • ? + ✈ = ? July 16, 2017

Omg TLC slayed her with an INDEPENDENT release!!

  18. #TeamTinashe Stan July 16, 2017

    This is bad for Sevyn.
From Atlantic not giving her much promo at all nor even giving her physicals is set up for scary times.
Plus, they have delayed her album in favor to push Kehlani’s album (whom they both had the same release dates).

R&B in general isn’t even selling. These girls are doing less than 50K in physicals and not much greater with streams. Now that she has an album out now she can finally work off of it and tour around and hopefully catches on slowly.

  19. SMH July 16, 2017

People can deny it, rationalize it, or keep making excuses for it. Streaming has destroyed the music industry. Period.

  20. Credits July 16, 2017

translation, everything in me and old skool are on repeat.

    • R July 17, 2017

She def should kill herself after this

  21. AmbeRussell July 17, 2017

The album felt more like a mix tape than a debut album. a lb singers aren’t going for bangers like they used to. Where are the high energy, 8 count driven songs that still have a good message or theme? The sample songs were kinda lazy and uninspired. She had no promotion and her other projects had more attention than the real one. That’s sad. And physical sales wouldn’t help her much as she makes music for the iTunes generation, not the record, cassette, or CD people

  22. Gman July 20, 2017

I say the album is a good album, its very diferent from her Ep’s. So mayb some of her fans cant get it yet, give a little more pr. And watch it soar. The album is excutive produce very well, each song flows to the next.

  23. @Asapicon July 21, 2017

Artists need shows like 106 & park, and TRL, bring those back plz

  24. Akono Adham August 18, 2017
