TIDAL Embroiled In Fresh Streaming Numbers Drama Over Meek Mill Album

Published: Thursday 27th Jul 2017 by Sam

For every win TIDAL scores, it feels like a loss quickly follows.

It’s apt then that their latest scandal involves Meek Mill‘s new album ‘Winners & Losers.’

Find out why below…

According to a new report by Hits Daily Double, JAY-Z’s TIDAL is under increased scrutiny over streaming figures for Mill’s LP. So much so that Billboard are being  critiqued for even counting them.

So, what’s the tea?

Meek, who is managed by Jay’s Roc Nation, is seeing his album made available to stream without any cost – in front of a paywall. Perplexing given that TIDAL is one of the few streaming platforms that doesn’t have a free ad-supported tier.

Indeed, if you click here, it’s presently possible to stream ‘Winners & Losers’  in full without even having a TIDAL account. This, despite a message saying plays are limited to 30 second snippets – which clearly isn’t the case.

Per HDD, these free streams generate no revenue and thus equate to free goods, ultimately making them ineligible for chart inclusion.

[Note: the “free-ness” of rival services like Spotify is supported by ads, which – by way of iron clad contracts – generates revenue for labels and artists too.]

Perhaps most worrisome for some industry commentators is that the presence of the album in front of the paywall (without need for login) opens the way for unlimited use of robots to drive up streaming totals.

Tyler The Creator, whose new album is in a three-way dance for the top spot with Meek’s and Lana Del Rey‘s – has spoken up and against the practice:

TIDAL have yet to refute the claims, but whichever way it’s diced or sliced this is not a good look.

You stupid fuckas still think Tidal a flop? Tidal never got started because of racist crackas and self hating niggggas
If Tidal was such a flop, people would never waste time consistently trying to make into fall!
Dumb ass Navy talk s*** because Beyoncé is apart of to Tidal, beyhive does the same it’s just stupid af!
I support Tidal 100%, I be damn if I support Apple Music while All this black excellence is at Tidal.

My thoughts exactly, Tidal hasn’t failed me yet & I’ve had it before Jay Z announced he was purchasing the services ??‍♂️

These white folks over in the tech world aren’t gonna stop with the propaganda against Tidal will they. Ever since Jay announced he bought the company they’ve been on his ass. Just go to Youtube and type in Tidal. A bunch of white folks shitting on the company. Sad part is the jigaboos who want to see the company fail, but these are the same people who idolize the white man and support their s*** (Apple, Nike, etc) even though they do nothing for ya’ll black asses.

Lol bytch please, what exactly has that flop tidal done for the black community except put money in the crooked carters’ pockets?

The biggest scandal in this article is the grammar. Nobody proofread this before posting?

I find it amusing how ppl are going after Tidal for their bogus streaming numbers when nobody went after Apple for using bots to stream Bryson Tiller’s debut album. There was nothing spectacular about his album and he wasn’t all that popular, yet his album was #1 every week on Apple’s r&b chart but couldn’t be found on Billboard. Don’t even get me started on Drake’s numbers.

anything connected to Jay Z and his fraudulent wife of his is a SCAM, plain and simple. and their brain dead Roach hive, who are as dumb and clueless as trump supporters, will deny the truth to the death despite the proof being right in front of their faces. Don’t bother to respond, I don’t debate with delusional people.

I wonder if these people screaming racism are seen the faces of those who criticize Tidal, black people always have an excuse for their failures, blame the evil white man, btw Tidal is co-owner by white artists too, so…

    • Caleb July 28, 2017

Oftentimes it is the evil white man as you say so quit trying to act like that isn’t often mostly the case.

No, the reason most blacks didn’t support Tidal was because Jay and Bey neglected the black community. Remember Jay’s Barney fiasco and his nose up at Occupy Wall Street? Plus, there were many white people on that Tidal stage too. It clearly wasn’t an all-black company so don’t blame us. Only after Tidal did Jay and Bey come back. We have them a big wake up call.

And if you look at all of Nicki Minaj’s latest chart positions it is clear that Tidal is cheating the numbers. How else would you explain that she charts high in the first week and then plummets drastically, and I mean drastically afterwards. Only the Gotti song and No Fraud w/Drake plummeted slowly.
