Mary J. Blige made a major mark on the 2017 Essence Music Festival.
As reported, the R&B royal staged her own night comprised of performers she handpicked to rock the New Orleans stage.
Jazmine Sullivan, Lala Hathaway, Ari Lennox, and Chaka Khan were some of the names on the MJB bill and they united at the evening’s climax to perform ‘I’m Every Woman.’

Vocally, this was kinda shaky all round (sans Jazmine, who sounded super). Still, a cool “moment.”
So I was at Essence last night, and this was part of Chaka’s performance and not Mary’s. Chaka was all kinds of drunk during her performance so it makes sense why she was shaky. Mary killed her performance, but this was Chaka asking people to come on stage. I can’t express how shaky Chaka was.
Chaka was not drunk at all . Stop making stuff up I was there backstage and yes jazmine was the best out of them all
It’s not always about polished vocals but all emotion. In the ad lib section near the end they all sounded great

As someone who attended Essence Festival last night, Chaka was awful. She appeared super high. At times couldn’t remember the words and made a lot of random noises. From the audience, it felt like the other ladies were trying to save Chaka from herself and the overall bad show she was giving. It was so sad to witness. However, Mary J set was priceless. So worth it!
Chaka is known for iffy performances. Doesn’t detract from her status though.

I’ll pass. This sounded like a messy effort thrown together last minute. Chaka has a unique voice but she is always hit or miss. Either she puts on a really good show or a really bad show (no in between) and even though I only saw this one song from her performance, I would say this was probably a really bad show instead of a good one.
While some parts were shaky one can not deny the greatness that was on that stage. Given Chaka has been through so many trials and tribulations to still have her talent amongst us is a blessing. Now can we discuss the gift that is Jazmine Sullivan she is a great writer and a vocal beast who’s talent is greatly underrated. Blessings to MJB and all the ladies who took part.

Ummm u can’t EVER put Lalah Hathaway in the shaky column. That scatting she did was better than ANYONE’s on that stage. And Jazmine was great too.
