Brandy’s Discography Streamed Over 1 Billion Times On Streaming Platforms

Singer's Career Powered By African-American Fans
Published: Sunday 13th Aug 2017 by David

Brandy‘s career may have stalled and been stifled by poorly executed moves in recent years, but that’s done all of nothing to shake her status as one of Pop’s greatest success stories.

Leading the way for the likes of then-teenagers Beyonce and Britney Spears in the 90s, the vocalist’s unmatched success on stage and screen during the period saw her harvest a fan base which has unknowingly turned her into a streaming magnet as her ability to pick up pure sales falters.

Awesome news below…

As of this morning, the African-American Pop icon’s discography has been streamed over 1 billion times across all streaming platforms!

Spotify, where the star performs best, can account for over 100 million of these streams while Apple Music, TIDAL, DeezerYouTube, Google Music and their lesser-known but equally impactful rivals picked up the numbers which saw her achieve the brilliant feat.

Ascertaining how much Brandy and her co-writers will earn from this feat may prove to be a difficult task, as streaming platforms offer varying rates which must be split between an artist’s label, the creatives behind each song and the platform itself once paid.

However, as 1,500 song streams from an album are equivalent to one pure sale of an album, it’d be safe to assume that Brandy can boast of shifting around 600,000 units worth of albums worldwide once her numbers are converted.

It seems, in an age in which platforms like Spotify and Apple Music trump radio to serve as honest indicators of consumer interest, Brandy is far more popular than even her own fans may have realised.

This is what K Michelle aspires to be!!! Be nice to your black fans and they’ll be nice to you!

    • Jasmine August 13, 2017

I disagree. Why bring K. Michelle up? She is like Keyshia Cole more than anyone else. There was never a polished image used by or set up for K. Michelle so they are polar opposites except for the fact they are black women who sing.

      • Trillafood July 26, 2018

K Michele is not even on Keyshia Cole level

  2. Bey Sting August 13, 2017

    Tamar is seething!!

    • Tori August 13, 2017

      …because of what?

      • More Issues Than Vogue August 13, 2017

Because her sales don’t even come up to half a million after all these years. ??????

      • Tori August 13, 2017

Tamar doesn’t have the back catalogue that Brandy have. Tamar doesn’t have push or promotion that Brandy ONCE had, but neither does Brandy so there’s that. WHY THE HELL SHOULD TAMAR CARE ABOUT ANY THING THAT BRANDY MUSIC IS DOING IF SHE’S A KNOWN BRANDY (and Mariah) STAN? If you’re going to try and to stir up b*******, at least use a female who doesn’t give a dog s*** about Brandy, her music or her well being, not a fellow singer who helped Brandy music get 1B streams dumbass. And you K McFlop fan, you’re fav is not even known outside of BET or VH1, b**** ain’t even fully local. This is the b**** that lied about beefing with Lil Kim and lied about knowing “LEMONADE” release date, ain’t nobody f****** with her.

    • Jasmine August 13, 2017

Why would Tamar be “seething”? Brandy already had a greatest hists album before anyone knew who Tamar was so how on earth are Brandy stans thinking Tamar is Brandy’s competition. Gasping at straws much?

  3. Tony Braxton August 13, 2017

I’m not surprised, she really was a globally renown star in the 90s so people are probably streaming her without even realising how many times they’re doing it. Good for her. It’s a shame Tamar and K Michelle will never be this big because of their attitudes.

    • Tori August 13, 2017

No inevitability should expecting any big stars in the genre any more, what does Tamar have to do with this?

    • S****** Blonde August 13, 2017

      Globally? ?

    • Jasmine August 13, 2017

Why is it even important to you if Tamar an K. Michelle reach Brandy’s level of past success? Seems like you are trying to instigate an irrelevant debate.

  4. Fancy BISH August 13, 2017

I wanna know your favorite Brandy song! Mine is I Wanna Be Down…some artists just hit out the park with their first single….I Wanna Be Down is as fresh as the day it was released…that beat! Those vocals! Dem runs! lol

    • DanYiel Iman August 13, 2017

Brandy’s Long Distance is a song that really stirs my soul off of Brandy Human album!! ✌??

      • Fancy BISH August 13, 2017

      • Fancy BISH August 13, 2017

        Cool ?

    • RoyalKev August 13, 2017

Omg, it’s just something special about ‘I Wanna Be Down’! It’s one of my favorites songs ever (along with ‘Full Moon)’. Other favs include: ‘Brokenhearted’, ‘What About Us’ (live version), ‘U Don’t Know Me (Like U Used To)’ , ‘Angel in Disguise’, ‘Sittin’ Up in my Room’ and ‘Put It Down’ (as far as singles go). Non singles: ‘Sweet Nothings’, ‘Put that on Everything’, ‘Sadiddy’, ‘Wow’, ‘Do you know what you have’.

      • Fancy BISH August 13, 2017

Yaaaaaaaas! I forgot about Sittin Up In My Room….LAWD, that’s da JAM ? I’m about to listen to it

  5. Eazy 4 Breezy August 13, 2017

No shade but i think Tamar has a lot to do with this. We all know she poached all of Brandy’s people trying to get the same formula but failed. Anyway, congrats girl. The numbers don’t lie and you my dear are absolutely slaying!

    • Tori August 13, 2017

Tamar worked with notably 4 that worked with Brandy, 1 she married too, one is her husband best friend, The other aren’t working Brandy at all. TC did like 2 songs with Brandy, are we really going to act he’s did much for her? He’s a full out s*** and couldn’t even give her the real her so….

  6. Gina August 13, 2017

THE real gag is that I just checked Spotify and The Weeknd is on husband way to slaying Fistopher.

  7. Kieal August 13, 2017

    This site is just SAD
The posts are getting worse first the Beyoncé thing now this? Didn’t Azelia Flops “album” done the same?
This site USED to be HOT.
Sort your s*** and fire your dumb ass staff

    • Gina August 13, 2017

Erm. One glance at Spotify will tell you that she legit has 24 million streams on The Boy is Mine alone on that website alone. The denial comes from the fact that you don’t understand that just because people don’t buy music doesn’t meant they won’t stream it. I too thought These numbers were inflated until I checked myself.

      • Jasmine August 13, 2017

@Gina The numbers might be accurate (I did not fact-check to verify) but the numbers are still irrelevant to the numbers popular stars of today pull in (Beyonce, Rihanna, Chris Brown, etc). Thus, this is a BS news story.

    • Credits August 13, 2017

And on this note, is anyone else having issues while trying to type comments using iOS? I have the latest iPhone and sometimes it takes 3.5 minutes to type a sentence.

  8. Brent Christpher August 13, 2017

I love Brandy, but these numbers and this report is fraudulent. No one is streaming her music this often.

    • Kable August 13, 2017

B**** go hibernate under sheet metal. Haters gonna hate. You mad jealous. Only thing streaming thru u is the long line of dudes u let pollute ur b*** and mouth! Dueces. ✌

  9. One Man To My Pum Pum August 13, 2017

The haters are in here upset at this news? You say it can’t be true when this post clearly states that it’s across all streaming sites. If she has over 100 million on her first album on Spotify why wouldn’t she have the same amount on Apple. You can literally go on Spotify and use the popularity bar to see how many streams she has and see that 1 billion makes complete sense. Yall sit there and say blacks don’t support our own but then act like something shady is going on when we actually do. Haters. ?

    • Kable August 13, 2017

They stay trolling man. Came out the wound that way

    • Miss Thang August 13, 2017

Girl don’t do it!!!!! Don’t do it! The song was on 24 million on Spotify before the parody so please don’t credit James (who I love) with Brandy, Monica and LaShawn’s work. Don’t ever!

  10. ??? August 13, 2017

lmao african american pop icon??? BISH WHERE??? that twitter psycho azelia whats her faces album also streamed a billion times and she’s still an irrelevant nobody. yall should change the name of this site to thatREACHjuice lmao!

    • Kelly August 13, 2017

You’re saying it’s a reach but have you checked to see whether it actually is a reach. It’s astounding to see how far people will go to discredit an achievement just because they don’t think the person who achieved it is capable of achieving it. Spotifys numbers are public boo boo, check for yourself.

  11. Miss Thang August 13, 2017

I’m convinced that the naysayers in here are Tamar fans upset that she’s Run out of room to hide all the copies of Love and War she bought. ☕️ My mom saw this story and asked if it was true so I did a quick scan of Spotify and YouTube and its true. Don’t forget that they include streams from her official videos as well. Good for her.

    • Kelly August 13, 2017

Don’t waste your breath girl. They don’t have anything to say when the Pop blogs boost up basic girls like Selena Gomez but can’t wrap their heads around why TGJ would take the time to tally Brandy’s numbers to write this report. The gag is that they’re going to be sweating harder than K Michelle’s smelly poontang when they look for themselves and see that she’s actually streamed more when you include unofficial and illegal streams from her fan made videos.

    • Tori August 13, 2017

Are Tamar and Brandy beefing or are you just full of s***?

    • Jasmine August 13, 2017

Nobody is thinking about Tamar but you. I don’t see why Brandy fans keep bringing up Tamar and K. Michelle. Have Brandy fans demoted Brandy from being on a high level of pop to Tamar and K. Michelle’s level of R&B?

  12. ??? August 13, 2017

Sorry, not here for this streaming nonsense. Any idiot with multiple devices running simultaneously can stream an album a billion times on his own. Do a post about her career discography SALES, then youll have a post that means something.

    • BrandNu Day August 13, 2017

Brandy has sold over 10 million worldwide so what’s your point? Streaming isn’t on the same level as sales but we can’t ignore the fact that girls we thought were done are actually far from it now we see how many people are listening to their songs. And no shade, but you do know how easy it is to falsify sales right. It’s a known fact that Tamar scammed her way to number one on iTunes with L&W which is why the song didn’t even make the top 50 on the main charts because she couldn’t do the same with physical copies. It’s also a known fact that Tommy did the same for Mariah so much so it affected George Michael’s career because his budget was used to do it. It’s also a known fact that Monica’s label used to overship her albums just so they could apply for platinum certifications once they’d shipped a million copies. Do you have proof that Brandy did the same? If not, hush before I come with receipts and embarrass Tamar and Vince’s IRS dodging asses in this here thread!

      • Tori August 13, 2017

If it’s a know FACT that Tamar scammed her way to #1 on iTunes, you could provide receipts with no problem right? Can you supply us with them please? And if it’s so easy for Tamar to scam her way to #1, why can’t Brandy scam her way to #1 on any chart even with streams like these?

  13. AfroDisiac August 13, 2017

Brandy behaves in a classless fashion which Is why people are having a hard time remembering that she WAS a bonafide superstar with a globally syndicated sitcom. I know these numbers are real because TGj is credible and because I just verified it for myself but I’m glad they pointed out that she is to blame for how her career has gone. Now Is the time to capitalise on these numbers and leave the Petty ig drama alone.

    • Tori August 13, 2017

Where have you been on social media for the last 2 years?

  14. Lady of Leisure August 13, 2017

I was about to comment but most of these comments took the words out of my mouth. You can quite literally go on all of these websites and use the calculator on your phone to add them together and the answer is right there. Why is it so hard to believe that someone with a 25 year career would have a hard time amassing a number like this. Brandy is popular in the U.K. Because Moesha was syndicated there and I think that’s where most of the numbers come from outside of the USA. I may be wrong but I think the numbers may even be a little more if they didn’t include deluxe editions. Either way, job well done B.

  15. S****** Blonde August 13, 2017

Her voice and success are overrated.

    • Chris August 5, 2018

      No, it was tatted correctly.

      • Chris August 5, 2018

        Ratted*

  16. Credits August 13, 2017

I don’t doubt these numbers cause I believe in her catalog. Most of her fans have grown up with her and just because the new generation is not streaming her as much, doesn’t mean the older generation isn’t. What this article fails to account for is how many years it took to reach a billion streams. Spotify launched when…and the other platforms? Still an achievement nonetheless.

    • Chris August 5, 2018

I think it’s just notifying that it’s an artist from the 90s specifically and the first to achieve such a level. And even then, from the moment streaming music online was available to that date is how long it took to get to that level.

  17. Stop Lying August 13, 2017

Who came up with this lie? Where did you get your data? Where are the numbers? Are those platforms really providing the number of streams publicly? Who did the math? Was it a drunk Ray J??? Come on, folks! It makes no sense… Brandy doesn’t have hits. Not even her fans sing along with her on the shows that she gets to book… Let’s go to the biggest streaming platforms and do some math. Does she even get close to 200 million? If somebody said 300 million in ALL sites I’d make and effort to believe, but this flat out lie is too much… Who is paying for this text? Brandy? Her fans? Just delete it and we’ll act like we never read this embarrassment.

    • Credits August 13, 2017

How are you going to say that Brandy has no hits?!?! Most of them may have been from the 90s but that’s what is special about timeless music, they are gifts that keep on giving. The boy is mine made history.

  18. Where Is The Truth August 13, 2017

This is the type of unchecked news that Wendy Williams would report as the truth on Hot Topics (everybody knows that her producers can’t be trusted, just like this site)

Where are the receipts? I wanna see the receipts!

  19. Jasmine August 13, 2017

    She looks like a J******.

  20. 4everBrandy_Ci August 13, 2017

I tell you it’s pathetic how some people on this site go out their way to bash artist. What the hell does Tamar, and K. Michelle have to do anything with Brandy? Let these black female artist get their shine. Enough with the b*******. Brandy has achieved and for some people to act she didn’t accomplish for herself is beyond me. There needs to be a revamp in this era. This current day and age have nothing to do but tear down artist that actually did something. Brandy has made it for herself regardless she’s not “popular” in today’s current. To be honest I would like to see fresh emerging artist that actually have the appeal and substance in today’s market. It’s oversatured with garbage and during the 90s Brandy emerged to be one of along with substance artist that had everything. She had the ability to connect with her fanbase. Her core audience supported her. Today’s current I don’t understand it’s no appreciation to records and artist that can be able to have the appeal to connect. The genre of r&b needs to thrive again. It’s been tarnished with crappy meaningless contect and there’s no soul. Unless people on here can name a few artist that possess those qualities then so be it. I can name a few artist that I’m aware of that have the substance. The issue is their not being promoted and supported enough. People mentioned Tamar and K. Michelle and I can be honest they have put out substance but the issue is this current doesn’t think have more successful female black artist isn’t possible. The 90s had a lot of black female artist that had achieved for themselves. Brandy made an impact whether people acknowledge it or not. Her records and contribution will remain known period.

    • Tori August 13, 2017

THANK YOU! IVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR MONTHS ON HERE!

      • 4everBrandy_Ci August 13, 2017

        @Tori

This site has a lot of trolls on here.

    • 4everBrandy_Ci August 13, 2017

      I meant “content”.

  21. RoyalKev August 13, 2017

Wheeeew! Some of these comments … People are feeling a ways! I’m proud of what Brandy’s achieved! Bran’s had a solid number of years of major mainstream success and this is the result of it! She’s earned multi platinum album(s) , has a string of pop /RnB hits and won dozens of awards (AMAs, Grammy, Billboard, etc), so this comes as no surprise!

  22. BangBang August 13, 2017

    That’s great news!????????

  23. Chris August 14, 2017

Not sure why this is news. There are artist who are streaming closentova billion with one song. No shade to Brandy but 1 billion streams for her ENTIRE catalogs is not a huge new worthy story. I love Brandy also. I have all her albums.

    • Chris August 14, 2017

      Close to a*

  24. MLOVER August 14, 2017

She’s an amazing artist and she deserves all of this and more…

  25. Kanyi August 15, 2017

I love Brandy. Wish she’ll pop back into the scene. Numbers dont lie, she is good.
