Report: Justin Timberlake & JAY-Z In Talks To Headline 2018 Super Bowl Halftime Show

Published: Thursday 24th Aug 2017 by Sam

It’s that time of year again.

As the temperature cools, talk of the Super Bowl Halftime headliner heats up.

And according to new reports, organizers are in talks for a double-act: Justin Timberlake and JAY-Z.

Dive below for details…

Per Hits Daily Double, informed sources say discussions are underway for the duo to perform together during Super Bowl LII (52) at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on February 4th 2018.

The pair previously collaborated on Timberlake’s 2013’s ‘Suit & Tie’ and again on Jigga’s ‘Holy Grail.’ They also set out on the mega-selling Legends of the Summer Tour. All in that same year.

And now it seems they’re gearing up to regroup on the grandest stage of them all.

The benefits are plentiful for all.

Jay is riding off the success of current album ‘4:44’ and the ‘Bowl would no doubt extend its commercial life-cycle, as well as give a gargantuan lift to his back-catalogue – which largely lives on his streaming service TIDAL now.

As for JT, the follow-up to ‘The 20/20 Experience’ is expected around the time of the Halftime and, as an established seller, this could really tip the RCA set into the stratosphere.

Here at TGJ, we also make the observation that recent years have been dominated by females ala Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry. Thus a Justin and Jay combo not only re-aligns the gender balance, but presents two titans with authentic chemistry.

************

Though this looks sensational on paper, we can’t ignore the elephant in the room. After the fall-out from the wardrobe malfunction, why the hell is “Justin Timberlake” being considered when Janet Jackson was blacklisted?

There’s no denying that JT is one of music’s last stage-blazers and will inevitably put on a major show. But – if indeed he’s being considered – there’s entirely too much bias at play. And it could be argued that Jay is only in the mix to take the edge off the sting from critics.

For us, the only way Timberlake’s involvement won’t be problematic is if Janet is involved. Somehow. Then we’d be able to close-book on that whole fiasco. If not, then let the think-pieces pour all the way in.

In the meanwhile, what are…

Your thoughts?

  8. Caleb August 24, 2017

If this were Janet the outrage would be palpable.

    • Jeans August 24, 2017

Hex will never hear the end of it if he performs. So unfair!
I smell a protest! Not that it would help or change much!

And please, no more Beyoncé at the SB!

    • Fancy BISH August 24, 2017

If it was Janet EVERYBODY and their grandmama would watch! The announcement alone would break the internet!

Yep it would be, this is BS ? they are getting him because he apologized where Janet stood her ground, he better bring Janet out as surprise guest which that b**** wouldn’t just keep stealing urban music

  9. Jasmine August 24, 2017

I won’t watch if JT performs. If you need a male vocalist with crossover appeal then book John Legend. Janet was did very dirty by the Super Bowl incident when JT’s career benefited from it. The whole incident was blown way out of proportion and anyone that watched the actual performance live when it aired on tv really did not see anything. You would have had to go online and watch it in very very slow motion to see anything so the whole blacklisting Janet was horrible and undeserved. How about Jay-Z perform with the “Roc Nation Friends & Family” (Beyonce, Rihanna, DJ Khaled, Big Sean, Shakira, John Legend, Alicia Keys, etc).

    • Marcelo August 24, 2017

      Lool john legend

  10. SMH August 24, 2017

Now I’m fully on board with the NFL boycott that’s being put together. Think stinks to high hell of both sexism and racism if that boy is invited to take place in this mess. And Jay Z should be ashamed of himself.

    • SMH August 24, 2017

      *This

  11. ??? August 24, 2017

white privilege in full effect. and like yall said, jay z is just thrown in the mix as a distraction.

    • Marcelo August 24, 2017

LOL jay z knows more thanyou. Take a seat.

      • ??? August 24, 2017

lol and jay z is still a pawn being played. take several seats lol.

  12. Marcelo August 24, 2017

Janet is like 60 years old. She doesn’t even care or remembers that publicity stunt. Why this TGJ writer does? I want a great show, ain’t nobody care about your feelings.

    • Jasmine August 24, 2017

Janet is 50. She definitely remembers the SB and talked about it many times. It really damaged her career and it was underserved. Anybody who watched the SB on tv did not see anything. You would have had to go online and find a picture or watch the video in very very slow motion. Nobody “cares about” your incorrectness dear so STFU with your idiotic comments b|tch nor do they care about your stupid assumptions of what other people “remember”. Everyone is not as slow and forgetful like you admitted you are.

      • Marcelo August 24, 2017

Wow you’re literally lifeless. No one with stuff to do daily remembers that.

      • ??? August 24, 2017

lol h0 youre beyond dead if youre sitting up here trolling people’s comments lmao go get a job lol

    • ??? August 24, 2017

lol Janet is 50 b*tch. and timberfake was responsible for that ‘publicity stunt’ since it was him who tore her shirt off. have a seat and learn how to do research dummy lol.

  13. 2bad2bme August 24, 2017

Just sign beyonce up for an annual contract and have featured artists ?

    • ??? August 24, 2017

lol why would they do that when gaga wiped her corny ass performances from modern memory lol?

      • DanYiel Iman August 24, 2017

Gaga & her performance was expected..??‍♂️

  14. Anne August 24, 2017

Janet already had a set, it’s not that common to be invited twice. There’s many big name artists still waiting for their first set, why should Janet be invited twice? JT was just a guest on her set, he’s big enough to finally be invited as a headliner. I think it’s a good match (J.T. & Jay-Z), it has nothing to do with Janet and I think it would be too much to invite her as well. Unfortunately, in this life sometimes you don’t get a do over, Janet had her time. It’s not the NFLs fault that it turned out poorly for her, no one owes her anything.

    • Jeans August 24, 2017

      White privilidge!

    • ??? August 24, 2017

lol you must be white or another dumb ignorant c*** if you don’t see the double standard racist bullsh*t going on here. and the racist NFL DOES owe her something-a MAJOR apology. that boy b*tch was on stage right along with her but she’s the one who got all the blame & blacklisted while his white privilege saved him and blew his career up. so save your delusional bullsh*t for your next trump rally lol.

      • Anne August 24, 2017

I’m far from white, been black my whole life. I agree that Janet should have not taken the blame alone but it seems to me that all the blame and blacklisting was done by others (outside of the NFL) who completely blamed Janet and let Justin off the hook, like radio and the Grammys. The NFL may have caved to outside pressures to apologize for what was labeled by others as Janet’s wardrobe malfunction, but to me the racism against Janet came from the reaction of others outside of the NFL. Sure, radio and the Grammys, TV networks, censors and others are wrong for only blaming her, but if two people commit a wrong act and one gets away scott free is the one who was forced to pay for their actions owed an apology? I don’t think so. I think Justin should have suffered some ramifications as well back then, but I don’t don’t hold that against him or the NFL. I don’t have a problem with them inviting Justin to headline for the first time, he’s a good performer. Besides, I have no desire to see Janet perform a medley of her old hits AGAIN.

      • Bam August 24, 2017

@Anne. The NFL did blame and try to sue Janet. It was only recently when one of the people calling the shots bts acknowledged that the whole ordeal was an accident and that they were told to pin it on her.
And perhaps what we need is her performing some of her old hits especially when one of them (Rythm Nation) is as relevant today as it was when it was released.

    • Bam August 24, 2017

Sit down. Put simply if you’re going to boycott Janet you boycott JT. If it had been Britney and Usher performing and usher had exposed britneys breast everyone would’ve been hating on Usher. The fact that no blames JT for exposing Janet’s breast, and that she alone gets boycotted because of it, is bullsh*+. Shame on you if you can’t see that.

      • tyana jones August 24, 2017

        and chris brown too.

      • Angello August 24, 2017

no blames? every twitter troll blames JT

  15. Bam August 24, 2017

    That is Bullsh*+!

    • tyana jones August 24, 2017

it is we WANTED CHRIS BROWN AND USHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

      • Bam August 24, 2017

Chris Brown peaked years ago im very happy he’s not performing.

      • tyana jones August 24, 2017

OR USHER AND HE GOT HELLWOOD STAR FOR F*** SAKE!!!!

      • gina August 24, 2017

EXACTLY! I was pulling for Usher this year, but we’re in trumps america so only the c00ns are gonna get shine.

      • tyana jones August 24, 2017

IF THIS S*** IS TRUE F*** THIS TRASH CUZ EVEYBOBY WANTS TO SEE CHRIS BROWN OR USHER ON THERE.

      • Angello August 24, 2017

People here are so out of touch with reality. they are both irrelevant.

      • tyana jones August 24, 2017

        NOT REALLY ON CHRIS PART.

  16. Truth teller August 24, 2017

    Beyonce and Janet please

  17. ??? August 24, 2017

lol all the klan/trump supporters starting to run in here to defend their white privilege & their boy b*tch lol

    • Angello August 24, 2017

if you call these names to everybody that disagrees with you, you’re ignorant.

      • Bam August 24, 2017

You called the people on Twitter who are saying Justin needs blame “Twitter Trolls”so you’re pretty ignorant too.

  18. gina August 24, 2017

Mess. I would have even settled for Taylor Swift instead of this clown.

    • Jeans August 24, 2017

      Me too !

    • Jasmine August 24, 2017

Taylor next time. It is time for some men to hit the stage this time around.

      • gina August 24, 2017

Usher, Weeknd, Bruno, etc…PLENTY of men they could have chose instead of a punk with no balls that bishes up at the first sign of trouble.

      • Angello August 24, 2017

gina, only relevants please. Weekend has a little repertorie so far, and Bruno already did it.

    • Bam August 24, 2017

She’s basic as hell. Can’t sing, can’t dance, but she can write a catchy song and victimize herself very well. I’ll be glad when people stop supporting basics and start supporting supers again. I get that supporting a basic makes basic people feel like they can make it too but it’s ridiculous now.

      • gina August 24, 2017

Relax dear, I was being sarcastic lol.

  19. whut August 24, 2017

Granted, this is effed up on all levels. But Janet has been over this for years and is continuing to move on with her life and career, so honestly it’s whatever at this point. Besides, it’s her name that’s on everyone’s minds and lips every year during the halftime show no matter who performs, so Janet wins in the end regardless.

    • Jeans August 24, 2017

      TRue!

  20. Aj August 24, 2017

Industry triple standard. JT was just as much if not more to blame for Jackson supergate-bowl. But because he was younger, white and male did he get away with it whilst Janet’s legacy was tarnished.

It would be the ultimate betrayal and display of industry double standards.

  21. Michael Okoro August 24, 2017

I see Jay-Z is still piggybacking off others, either Beyoncé, Linkin Park, Kanye, JT, etc.

    • Bam August 24, 2017

Yup. He knows how to stay relevant off the backs of others that’s for sure.

  22. #TeamTinashe Stan (DaniLeigh Is Coming ???) August 24, 2017

    Janet deserves it.
She didn’t deserve sharing the stage with anyone especially with her catalog.

    • Angello August 25, 2017

      she already did it

  23. TheRealDeal August 24, 2017

Well, if it happens, there’s big chances for Bee to show up…

Now, if I had to pink someone, I’d go for Pink… she’d give vocals AND showtime hands down.
When she performed “Glitter in the air” at the Grammys during the “Funhouse” era everybody was like “holy ish”. And she showed a different side of her personnality, she was very gracious.

People don’t give her enough credits… I could also named “Sober” at the VMAs or “Try” at the AMAs. She knows how to come up with something special. She deserves it.

JLo has a good catalogue and she can hold a stage… but vocally she’s very limited. I’d like to see her doing it some time, but Pink tops the list for me.

    • TheRealDeal August 24, 2017

If I had to pick* someone lol
Sorry for the typos I was written from my phone

      • TheRealDeal August 24, 2017

        Writting* stupid auto correct yuck

  24. eric August 24, 2017

I won’t be watching. I’ll find some other fun if Justin has anything to do with the halftime show.

  25. S****** Blonde August 25, 2017

    LOL at the meltdowns ?

    • tyana jones August 25, 2017

      f*** u

  26. Angel September 8, 2017

Jennifer Lynn Lopez deserves the Super Bowl. You can say whatever you want about JLo, but, one thing you can’t say is that she does not slay the stage. She has bops from the early 2000s AND this decade. Her stage presence is one of the best. And there hasn’t been a Latina performer at the Super Bowl since Gloria Estefan in the 90s. It’s Jen’s time. It’s time to switch up and add some Latin spice to the SuperBowl.
