Did You Miss It? Taylor Swift Sued Over 3LW Song

Published: Tuesday 19th Sep 2017 by Rashad

‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker Taylor Swift is looking to shake off accusations she intentionally plagiarized concepts and content from former R&B group 3LW‘s 2001 hit, ‘Playas Gon’ Play.’

Details inside;

Three years after debuting at #1 with ‘Shake It Off,’ the first single from her multiplatinum album, ‘1989, pop star Taylor Swift’s hit is the reason she’s being hit with a lawsuit from singer/songwriters, Sean Hall and Nathan Butler – the penmen behind 3LW’s early 2000s hit, ‘Playas Gon Play.’

According to the duo, ‘Shake It Off’ – which features the lines, “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play/ And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate” – directly steals from ‘Playas’ which houses a very similar line in its chorus.  So similar, according to Hall and Butler, they are demanding to see their names added as “co-writers” to Swift’s hit and also a 20% cut from her royalties.

While time will certainly tell if a judge and jury agree, Swift’s rep has already clapped back at the claims stating:

“This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grab,” her rep said. “The law is simple and clear. They do not have a case.”

      The only iconic line 3LW has is “I’m getting a lil tired of your broken PROMITHES PROMITHES” lol

    They have a case and will get dat money. I don’t recall that being a saying until after this song. But the ballers gonna ball, shot callers they gonna call is from a different hip hop song a few years before it. But yea, Taylor is paying up.

      Girl you are as dumb as Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, dumb high school drop out!

    Hahaha the thirst it too real . How can they really think those two lines are that iconic and anybody who uses them should pay , what a pair of desperate tools . Players gonna play is a very common and non creative saying ; same with haters gonna hate .
    Surely actual members of 3LW .. well maybe Adrienne and Naturi would find this ridiculous . Kiely most likely gon be happy for whatever spotlight this brings ?. Hope it gets dismissed with a fine for time wasting ? If that’s even a thing . Most ridiculous claim ever. It’s like the bring it on and black swan writers suing her for dressing like a cheerleader or a ballet dancer … “we made cheerleading and ballet happen” . ?

    Have they just heard the song? It’s been out for 3 years. Why now?

  7. Walter White September 20, 2017

    They waited so they can get more money. They most definitely have a case. This is not the first time Taylor’s copied song lyrics or concept. Expose the snake

    Lmao girl BYE. That line has been around since before 3LW OR Taylor Swift was even born lmao. Desperate mess.
