The Numbers Are In! Fergie’s ‘Double Dutchess’ Sold…

Published: Saturday 30th Sep 2017 by Sam

It’s been a rollercoaster for Fergie creating and finally releasing sophomore album ‘Double Dutchess.’

Several years in the making, the LP arrived on September 22nd and paired each track with an accompanying video.

With the first-week numbers finally tallied, was the Black Eyed Peas star’s “visual experience” an arresting enough proposition for the record-buying public?

Find out below…

Per Hits Daily Double, the set – which features Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, and YG, is on course to open at #18 with the following figures:

 20,450
[Sales-Plus-Streaming]
*******
14,456
[Pure Sales]

In a testament to the pervasiveness and potency of streaming, had Fergie’s pure sales number been the only factor, she’d have debuted at #8. But, despite servicing several videos to VEVO upon the LP’s release, her streaming total actually dragged things down.

Hindsight is 20/20, but she’d have been much better off working this like a traditional release. The “visual experience” angle feels like something conjured up after several jump-starts to secure a hit single.

She’d have been better off keep swinging until she snagged that smash or perhaps could have released the singles in twos (honing in on the album’s name) in a bid to work different sounds and formats without playing all of her cards at once.

Now, one has to wonder where the project goes from here and whether there’s a plausible means of recouping the spend on all those videos?

Your thoughts?

Lord. Lol. I don’t mean to laugh but this is so embarrassing for such high budget videos and music. Just like you is still my FAV song and it slays my life.

But let’s have this discussing though…all these A-list pop artist just ain’t selling. Katy, Kesha, pink, Miley, Britney, Selena all these girls who have sold millions and had #1 singles in the past can’t even sell 100k now. When you put all of that in prospective you see that r&b isn’t the only thing that isn’t selling. Really the charts are dominated by rap music and white male artist. I think the industry is in desperate need of new female pop stars. Notice all these male artist dominating the charts are young, fresh artist.

Also when you compare these artist to Gaga and Rihanna sales (who many including this site dragged for under performing) you’ll see that their albums did really well. Especially Rihanna. I still don’t understand how ppl can call Anti a flop.

    • Justme September 30, 2017

It was a flop. Anti had bops. But collectively it was a mess. Everyone was excited when rihanna came out and with streaming you can listen to it before you buy it and it didn’t pull together. Also rihanna has never been an album artist so why be surprised

    • Brittaney October 4, 2017

Britney’s last album debuted with 111,000 units first week, so dont put her in that catergory with Miley’s 30K debut.

      • erica October 6, 2017

Britney is on her 9th album with absolutely no promo like these girls & is still managing to get over a 100k she’s still slaying all these years for a girl who can’t dance anymore as you guys say I call it a slay

      • Joy November 22, 2017

Oh, please. Britney’s album may have sold well but it also flopped. Maybe she needs to write more of her own music. She keeps singing the same tunes. Nothing new.

    • Leo October 5, 2017

Katy’s new album Witness sold 180,000 copies first week and debuted at #1 on the album chart. Get your facts straight before reaching.

      • BM October 19, 2017

Katy only sold that many because she bundled the album with concert ticket sales.

    • galemoy October 5, 2017

Lol. Wondering why you left Beyonce and Taylor out. Two pop culture “pop” stars who have had their last albums outsell Gaga and Rihanna…. Also have any of the people you mentioned had releases in the 10,000s? lol

  5. Dopecommentsbymarc242 September 30, 2017

In 2017 it’s so easy to bootleg music and that’s the reason why music isn’t selling anymore ??‍♂️ Then not much use streams! Album sales still ain’t mean s*** cause Fergie album is amazing I bought it !

  6. Pat September 30, 2017

Should have released with Gwen, at least she went number one…All those delays didn’t help. Anyways who cares about album sales anymore, lol!

  7. Jasmine September 30, 2017

She wasted too mich time in between albums and people moved on a long time ago from Fergie music

  8. Achooo! September 30, 2017

20,450 in sales and 3,000,000 in illegal downloads. I’m in the 3 million category. Her album is good and she should have release it in 2014.

  9. MAW September 30, 2017

    That was predictable

  10. DanYiel Iman September 30, 2017

I mean I can’t, what did her other album sell? ?

  11. Livi Rolle September 30, 2017

What was Ledisi opening numbers? Can we get a her numbers as well?

    • Jasmine September 30, 2017

Less than 9K according to Hits Daily Double.

  12. Caleb September 30, 2017

I predicted 18,000 so I guess she did better than I though barely.

    • Fancy BISH September 30, 2017

You was in the ballpark tho! lol

  13. Jeans September 30, 2017

Wow, smh. Just wow. I was rooting for atleast 50k

  14. justincredible September 30, 2017

Good that’s what she gets for collaborating with Nicki Garbaj. Let this be a lesson to other pop singers… the formula must die. ?

    • Karen C October 15, 2017

What? The only successful song on the album is the one she did with Nicki. I really like the song. They should have had a better video though.

  15. @sliqnick September 30, 2017

WOW thats weak. Beyoncè can re release Lemonade with an etrxa voice note just saying thank you and she will literally sell more albums than this in a minute.

    • jeff October 3, 2017

so annoying when ppl bring that fake c*** fake feminist in every conversation…

      • Brittaney October 4, 2017

Agree. Beyonce is overrated and her hardcore fanbase consumes everything she does like the Aztecs did with the Spainards.

  16. Francis September 30, 2017

Pitty, the album is good and a cohesive body of work. She waited a long time to release and had many missteps.

  17. JOHNVIDAL October 1, 2017

Fwen Stefani really sold way more than her. Who would have thought. Initially, each of their first singles for their last projects didn´t do too good but Fergie´s did better. But she just kept postponing. She was cute in the 00s but nothing spectacular. So now people have gorgotten. Most of the 00s acts didn´t leave that big of a mark. Mainstream music had already declined a lot by then. The big names of the 80s and 90s do better than them despite being older.

  18. Janet October 1, 2017

Visuals and streaming aside, its just not that great of an album. The songs sound lazy and uncreative, and the videos are nothing all that special. Its not radio friendly, which will also hurt the project. I just dont care for the whole thing.

  19. Yolanda October 1, 2017

Do you think Nicki Minaj will take credit for this success?

  20. eric October 1, 2017

I don’t feel bad for her, because the singles and videos came too rapidly and with zero consistency in the sound, style and image that Fergie was trying to project. The entire era should’ve been framed around “Save It Til Morning” and the message of hope and survival. She and her people messed up and missed a big opportunity. Sad.

  21. Disappointed October 1, 2017

The reality is that this album flopped because it had so many false starts due to Fergie’s indecisiveness and the songs themselves lack replay value. The album is forgettable. The ideas behind the songs were actually relatable but when it came time to add the lyrics to them most are beyond corny and cringeworthy. I praise the instrumentals on most tracks as stated before the reasons the songs did so poorly even with polished videos were due to the fact that they lacked good lyrics. I applaud Fergie for writing her own songs but this is a prime example of why it might have been a good idea to collaborate with a small handful of other songwriters on this project in order to make the most of what could have been a groundbreaking album and a WIN for all parties involved.

  22. RealTea October 1, 2017

I like Fergie some of the songs are good, but the videos just ruined it, they were low budget, like Beyoncé Bday era. The whole concept was like Beyoncés. The format was tired and she has lost her fan base with the huge gap, times have changed a century later.

  23. CantCU October 3, 2017

Wow. This is exactly what is wrong with this sleep walking world we live in. Fergi isn’t Beyonce…and what? Fergi did something consciously present and creative and if your dead ass walking didn’t like it or get it? Who cares! You sleep walkers would prefer something else? Good for your slumbering ass. What’s with the hateful nonsense?

There is a reason why Fergi is the Duchess! The problem is she tried to let you “sleepwalkers” into her personal focus and that apparently wasn’t available because by the time you wake up at 2pm…Life has passed you by. Life is Pain was amazing. Ever have a broken heart? Try to explain how bad it hurts to someone who isn’t connected and sleepwalking…THEY JUST DON’T GET IT!

  24. kevin October 3, 2017

I love her and her amazing album , f*** all you trolls!

  25. Lol October 6, 2017

SHE A RICH B****, nothing to worry about if you Fergie.

  26. Lol October 6, 2017

SHE A RICH B****. You ain’t worried bout anything if you Fergie.

    • Dr. D**** October 23, 2017

      Yep.

  27. Joy November 22, 2017

Fergie’s album was gonna be a flopped anyways. Especially after releasing that nasty ass “MILF” song along with that trashy ass video. Had she would’ve went the same route as she did with her first album, it wouldn’t have failed. Instead, she and the rest of these dumb b****** out here keep trying to be like Beyoncé trashy ass. The same with Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez trying to make albums like Christina Aguilera’s Stripped album. They cannot make an album like Stripped. They all need to learn to be themselves!
